Hey,

I noticed there is a uxtheme patcher available for the Windows 10 TP. Does anyone know if Windows 8/8.1 themes will work with 10?
>>
>>45680336
bump?
>>
I sure hope you guys aren't using this as a daily driver
>>
>>45680569
I've been using this as my daily driver since release and haven't had any problems. It's much better than 8/8.1 already, what's wrong with it?
>>
>>45680269
Windows 9 was better.
That's why they suppressed it.
>>
>>45680580
soo funny xD lolol

is this win10 tech preview?
>>

Botnet in every sense of the term.

Personally I'm more excited for WM 10.

no, it's Gentoo

9901 is a leaked build. There are slightly older build available for testing.
>>
>>45680269
Tldr; Not sure if you guys are aware but, that shits some serious botnet .
>>
So is 9901 pretty much the consumer preview?
>>
>PAID MICROSOFT VIRAL MARKETING WINDOWS BOTNET THREAD

email moot
>>
>>45680667
Nope. It's an early version of what will become the consumer preview. There are hints of many new features such as Cortana on the desktop and a modern clock, but none of it works quite right yet.

Easily fixed.

>objectively slower
Simply not true.

>shittier search and indexing
This is true.
>muh aero (ugly as fuck)
Subjective

>outdated
Not true. Microsoft is supporting Windows 7 specifically for those who don't like 8.

None of this impacts me, however.

Not installing any new MS OSes if I can help it. Literally a botnet. When 7 stops getting updates I'll switch to ubuntu.
>>
>>45680695
Microsoft has very openly said that they will record some of your usage patterns and collect feedback on how you use the OS.
>>
>>45680712

sure lel

>k
>k
>>
>>45680695
It's basically a ratted version of Windows. Saysso in the release notes and terms of service.
>>
>>45680734
Any significant claims of better performance in 8/8.1 can be chalked up to placebo from running a fresh install.
>>
>>45680734

No, you don't need third party support. It's not as easy as it is in 10 but literally all you need to do is make the image with the right dimensions and you can have multi-monitor wallpapers in vanilla W7.
>>
>>45680760
>>45680704
>find appropriately sized image
>set wallpaper to tile
>multi monitor wallpaper, no hacks needed.
>>
>>45680269
Used it briefly (not too impressed) until I read up on the whole "observing your usage" bullshit. Kinda creeped me out tbh. Why would anyone willingly submit to a literal bot-net.
>>
>>45680784
That's not what a botnet is you fucking idiot.

Looks promising as an improvement to 8.1 but the right side of the start menu is clearly a bone thrown at the people backing muh windows store (which is almost surely the greatest cesspool of an application market on a major OS today).

Still, running previews as a primary OS is retarded. I just installed Windows 8.1. As a software consultant I deal with enough bullshit with unstable software. I only beta test software when I get the hardware for free (two thermostats, five smoke detectors, several cell phones, several routers, etc.)
>>
>>45680784
Because some people are smart enough to:
-Run it in a VM
-Not use it as their daily OS
-Understand the nature of their environment and behave accordingly, ie, by not doing anything personal or sensitive when you know you're being logged and watched, and roughly how it occurs. All Microsoft OS are probably full of backdoors and surveillance of a sort anyway, so you shouldn't be suddenly more wary of obvious telemetry features meant to combat a lack of user reports and feedback during the typical person's beta testing.
>>
>>45680805
let's resort to reddit memes
>>
>>45680793
>A botnet is a collection of Internet-connected programs communicating with other similar programs in order to perform tasks.
Are you sure you fucking idiot?
>>
Did they finish ReFS yet? Or switch to something that isn't NTFS?
>>
>>45680844
Nope. NTFS forever. A lot of NTFS' problems are severely lessened on an SSD.

ReFS is supposedly not designed to fail either, so if the filesystem fails it fails without meaningful ability to try to recover.
>>
>>45680830
I viewed it as "If Microsoft is going to be so bold as to proclaim this, then this can't be good."
>>
>>45680864
People are saying that Windows 8 was made without the input of people that use Windows. To address that, during the technical preview, they are in your face about saying "WE'RE MONITORING EVERYTHING TO MAKE THIS SHIT LESS SHITTY. KTHX."

Users are shit at providing feedback generally. Getting hard data and then forcing a situation for a user to reproduce (to discover why they are confused, etc.) is a lot easier to solve usability issues.
>>
>>45680887
WOW. THAT'S SO FUCKING TERRIBLE. I'D BETTER GO SHILL ABOUT LINUX NOW.
>>
>>45680336
does anyone have an answer to this?
>>
>>45680864
It's like I just said. They're telemetry features, and honestly, I don't at all blame them for implementing such a thing.

Think about this. Think about all of the software you use on a daily basis, even very stable software. How many times have you reported a bug when you ran into a problem? How many times have you known what you hit was a bug? How many situations can an entity feasibly test for, and how many people are going to just use the OS out of sheer curiosity and never really give any feedback (eg, me)? Telemetry makes sense.

As usual, Microsoft has a garbage image, garbage PR and marketing departments, and questionable internal hierarchies. They should've more explicitly addressed the telemetry / "spying" aspects by clarifying ton what extent they'll be removed. Perhaps you're right and that this silence is a bad sign on its own, but nonetheless, your reasons for not trying it stay just as wrong.

I can't wait for RTM
>>
>>45680967
me either!

They're targeting final release for early fall, so we'll get rtm probably late summer.

can anyone confirm creative x-fi 8.1 drivers working in 10 w/o problems?

Windows 8.1 styles work with 10 TP, just tried it.

so can you upgrade to final version from current version or not?
>>
>>45681097
No idea. You can upgrade from one build to the next without issues, so I don't see why you wouldn't be able to upgrade to the final.
>>
>>45680948

Can I disable the relevant services to stop this 'feature'?
>>
>>45681413
Not sure. I just load it in a VM every once in a while. Use it for half an hour at most, close it. Haven't really tried.
>>
I don't think I've ever updated to a new OS out of choice, my PC has 7 still but my new notebook has 8.1. I really don't mind 8.1, what's the hate? The new start menu works fine for me, press windows key and start typing what program you want.
>I also enjoyed vista and never updated to 7 until about 2012 when I built a new PC.

>>45681557
vista was fine post SP2.

They need to revert the task manager to the way it was in 7.

Having ran 7 on a netbook with a gig of ram, and emulated on a bigger machine with emulated 2 gigs of ram, 10 is slower
Also, shit-tier task manager, and ms account sign-in annoyances

no

Why would anyone seriously be hyped for this? Windows is a fucking mess since vista. I suspect most of you are /v/ermin and should fuck off to where you came from, crossboarding scum
