I bought these on a whim. Not the greatest sound but decent enough, fairly portable, cable breaks away and can be attached on either side and has a built in mic with surprisingly decent sound quality, and rock fucking solid build quality. 8/10 would buy again if on sale.

Bumpin

They're Planar, which I don't know too much about. And I know they're a heavily modified and custom tuned version of the Fostex T50rp. I'm not quite sure how you can turn a driver from a $130 headphone and "tune" it and the enclosure to make it worth $700. One review compared it to the Audizene LCD-2, and I think the review claimed the Fostex to be a bit more bass heavy. Which is a sound I'd prefer.

Anyone know?

Here's my 2 cents worth...

For years I was using Etymotic ER6 They're great but they always took a few minutes of tugging my ears to seat properly. A few days ago I bought Klipsch Image X5. They sound great and are easy to seat. I'll be using the Klipsch when away from now on.

I also bought a Burson Soloist SL amp. Out of the box it was a bit dry and lifeless. Now, after 24 hours of use it sounds great. Using it with Hifiman HE-500. Not as comfortable as my 20 year old Sennheiser HD-580 but I like the sound and it's not that uncomfortable.
>>
>>45634412
AFAIK nobody knows anything about them. Fostex isn't as popular as other big audio companies, but if the TH500 is anything like their other audio products, they'll be good quality at a slight price premium.
>>
>>45634725
I just hope they have enough badd for my liking. I listen to a lot of electronics and want something beautiful, comfy, and bassy, that is good quality. I looked at the HD 700's for a while.
>>
I have 60 dollars to spend on headphones. What should I get? I heard sonys are good.

lol i have these, using them right now, they're fucking great other than the lack of bass, but for the price you cant do better.

So I'm looking at getting a pair of headphones around $150, am willing to spend a little more or a little less. I had a pair of ATH50s a year ago and liked how they sounded and everything, but i could only wear them for like 1 or 2 hours at at a time because they were like fucking painful headclamps. I've been hearing that the ATH50x headphones are built with comfort in mind, is this true? Should i give them a second chance? Any other headphones i should look at around that price range?

Do you guys suggest EQ settings?
I'm pretty bad at them, would anyone care to help?
>>
>>45635933
Look up frequency response graphs for your cans and compensate for their shortcomings. It's fairly simple.
>>
>>45635689
Oh look, it's the AT IEM shill complaining about shills.
>>
>>45636003
The scale of the graphs is weird to me because they're exponential.

For HD202 should
2500,0 Hz +1db
5000,0 Hz +2db
20000,0 Hz +2db
be all right?
>>
>>45636196
Your hearing isn't linear you fucking retard.
>>
>>45636196
There's no "right" EQ settings. Fiddle with it until it sounds good to you. Most audiophiles tend to say neutral is good but I much prefer warmer, slightly bassier sound. I don't EQ my HD 650 but when I use "bright" cans I EQ the highs down a bit.

Actually it's not that dumb. IEMs are very, very sensitive to the source's impedance and many sources also have very audible hiss. A good source aka a well designed amplifier can be dead silent even when you have IEMs plugged in and the low output impedance will make the IEMs perform as good as they can. My O2 with 1x gain is really great for my Shure SE535s if I want to have isolation at home while listening to stuff from my computer.

Now if you were to plug the IEMs into some tube amp with tubes in the output or an AV receiver/integrated amp with output impedance north of 100 ohms, that would be fucking retarded.

Old Setup: PC with soundblaster X-fi w/ front bay drive output/input. I have headphones plugged into front bay, speakers plugged into rear soundcard port. Soundcard is now dead and I'm using onboard sound.

New setup: Planning on getting a modi+magni or similar. PC>USB>DAC>AMP>headphones. What can I do to also have my speakers connected? Is there a better option than a simple splitter like pic related?

>>45639519
I only have limited experience with splitters, used them exactly once and then never again. I also wanted to conncet headphones and speakers at the same time but the splitter introduced massive channel imbalance. If I were you I would either simply accept that only one device can be plugged in at a time or look for a dac that offers two outputs (which would hopefully work better than a splitter). I think the O2+ODAC can use the line-in as a line-out when the amp part of it is turned off, but I can't guarantee that (don't have an O2+ODAC yet).

Logitec X-530 is what I have right now; you can suggest with or without.
>Requirements for Isolation
Greatest priority is to block as much sound out as possible due to noisy house.
>Preferred Type of Headphone
Whatever is most comfortable
>Preferred tonal balance
Whatever is best for vidya first. Secondary is movies and music. If that doesn't say enough, bass isn't a priority for music.
>Past headphones
earbuds that come with phones
>Preferred Music
gayme, metal (power, symphonic, progressive), some dubstep

Is there any advantage of using a amp on headphones that don't really need one? Or is it just a waste?

Hifiman re400 or Brainwavz S5?

How can low-tier gaming headsets claim to have 7.1 surround sound, if according to the wiki, a DAC that can process a surround sound signal must be used to actually achieve a 3D sound?
>>
>>45639973
Nope, their impedance is 30 Ohms. No amp needed.
>>
>>45640062
Not really.
>>
>>45640062
I just like having hardware controls and a separate audio stream.
>>
>>45640095
Never get a gaming headset. Just don't. It should be said as sort of a mantra. It won't even offer all that good game sound quality for the price, much less all the bells and whistles its marketing blurbs promise. In general, for gaming, you probably just want to get good open back headphones (you are looking for a nice soundstage to allow for positioning), and a cheap mic seperately. For the money you will spend on such you will get much better sound in and out of game, than if you were to buy gaming garbage.

I understand that, but if headphones that don't use it as a marketing point can utilize it with a DAC, is the fact that gaming headsets use it as a marketing point mean that they can somehow utilize it without any extra components? I'm just trying to get a better understanding of the relationship between headsets and headphones.

NVX XPT100 sound good for your needs.

It's Christmas time, and i'm a poor fuck, and my buddy's got a pair of ATH-M50s, Considering getting him a nice looking headphone stand... Seem like a good idea? If so whats recommended within the 20-30 range?
>>
>>45640558
A headphone stand for ATH-M50s? Why? they aren't expensive and not very good to look at.
>>
>>45640530
Thanks, anon. I'll look into it.
>>
Anyone here have the audio technica ad500x / 700x?

What is your opinion of them?
>>
>>45640491
Headset = Headphones (either mono or stereo) with a Microphone attached

Headphones = two speakers and something connecting the two, bigger than earbuds

Buy a nice headphone and an antlion modmic if you want to game... or if you have a headphone with the detachable cord, purchase V-Moda's Headset kit, the mic's on the wire closest to your ear and comes down in a 3 ring TRS (with splitter for desktop audio + mic

can you explain to me what exactly the wyrd does? Im a bit confused after reading the product info and if I need one after buying the modi uber
>>
>>45640491
I know Sennheiser's "gaming" headset came with a USB sound card/dac dongle. Cheap piece o' junk. That's probably what all of these do.
>>
>>45640650
No, you don't need to use duct tape to shut her up. I sharp blow to the temple, or sizeable amount of knockout drugs can silent the nagging wife just as well.
>>
>>45641171
cleans up the audio some more. I didn't use to use the wyrd, but I built a new pc and I was getting some interference from my gpu, so I got it, and it fixed it completely. The sound changes are minimal.
>>
>>45636581
Just bought a pair of these for my gf. How did I do?
Anyone have any experience with them?
>>
>>45641279
the 558 is the same thing but cheaper. Still theyre chinese made headphones but still sound decent for the price and don't need an amp either. If you want to truely hear the sennheiser sound get the HD600 or 650 though
>>
>>45634015
Is there a sub-$200 set of closed headphones that don't require an amp and aren't the v6/derivatives of it or the ath-m50s? Had a pair of v6's and the left ear went out after very little wear, and I'm skeptical to rebuy, but the m50s seem very overpriced for what they provide.
>>
>>45641403
Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro
>>
>>45641470
I looked into those when doing research a while back, but they seemed very form>function, and many people had issues with the sound. Did that hold for you?
>>
>>45641490
I went with DT990 because I only use them at home and wanted open headphones. But I would have gotten the C.O.P. for the adjustable open/closed soundstage, removable cable, and portability.
>>
>>45641470
>>45641490
also, after having briefly looked them up, what the hell is with the adjustable "openness"? Shouldn't a set of headphones be designed for a target output, and have drivers and architecture designed around that?
>>
>>45641534
yeah, I'm going with dt880 250 ohm +magni/modi stack for my dorm, this is a portable pair, hence the no amp/closed/relatively cheap. And I mostly care about the sound, v6s/m50s are both very portable, and the m50s have a removable cable

>>45641534

>>45641552
look into the new modi 2 uber and magni 2 uber, much better buy

>>45641750
i thought dec 17 was the ship date?
>>
>>45641717
I just have nothing more to add. Look up reviews to decide if the adjustable soundstage is a gimmick or not, but reviews seem positive. In reality, for portability, I'd recommend JayBird BlueBuds X earbuds (bluetooth, isolates sound, good battery life)
>>
>>45641538
Controls the bass port, affects bass level. Lets a little noise in, but the isolation stays mostly the same. Most everything else stays the same as well.
>>
>>45641781
Yeah, you're right, I read it wrong. Got a bit too excited about them too I guess.
>>
>>45641538
From what I've been told, it doesn't open them up in the sense of a wider sound stage, but rather just mellows out the bass (which is um, more "urban...." than that of the M50x's) a tad.
>>
>>45641534
Alternatively, how likely are open headphones to actually get damaged by humidity? Senn 558's look pretty great for price/performance, but I'm terrified of wrecking my headphones inadvertently by being outside

I mean, you go to /g/ if you care about headphones, and then immediately leave and go to /mu/ if you want to talk about music. People might have really nice systems that they spend thousands of dollars on, but they also tend to have the taste of 14 year old autists.
