is it still the best /g/?
can it get any better?
>>45597106
Yes. You should enable "Use small taskbar buttons".
And you could remove the profile icon, it just takes up space.
And turn off aero if you're into flat design.

How about no?

Seriously, what's wrong with you fags? It's even worse with the classic theme. Do you hate vertical space?

its 2014. We have monitors with resolutions of 1080 and above. Grow the fuck up.

It does look a bit silly somehow with the classic theme

Edgy. Maybe you should grow up, anon.
>>45598110
Yes maybe I should sperg out over an inch of space too. God forbid my fatass fingers have to scroll to see the other half of a line of text.
>>45598047
If that was my concern I'd just auto-hide entirely instead
>>45597106
I've been forced to use Ubuntu Unity for the month guys and I get it now.
>Panels on top/side is best. It just can't be at the bottom because you're reading down for content. What's at the bottom should always be the content.

>Pressure based auto-hide on the sidebar just nails it. I just wish they had the same option for the top bar.
>Dock still stinks on any platform and they should just replace it with window switcher like Win 8
Windows explorer still best file browser though.
>>45598199
Now install an Ubuntu flavor with the DE of your choice.
>>45598199
I installed ubuntu to make my computer faster but it happens to be slower than windows 7, I have a shitty comp but I expected a popular linux distro like this to not be so demanding

Ubuntu took further steps to make it easier to use and assumed that you had more than 4GB RAM. It used to be a lot lighter. Maybe you'd like Ubuntu MATE.
>>45598636
Use anything but unity, gnome 3 or kde and it will fly.
>>45598679
I have only 1 GB RAM,kek.
so it is not for users like me, maybe later when I upgrade my computer
>>45598748
Just (mentally) separate the OS from the desktop environment.
Now you have a whole lot more options. Arch being the best choice.

never heard of unity, I have used gnome on debian but it freezed mutliple times, if I would open youtube video on 2 tabs, fuck it,,I would have to restart the computer.
So you are trolling right, no gnome ,kde or unity (i am assuming it is gui top)means only command line ?

windows 8
>>45598761
Only about a year ago I was only using windows xp, top kek.
Within this year I managed to juggle Windows 7, ubuntu and debian, have to say nothing beats xp, but windows 7 also seems to work fine

GNOME, KDE and Unity being built on top of GNOME are all designed for modern computers. LXDE, Xfce, MATE, Enlightenment, IceWM are all real light. 2GB RAM can run a functioning Cinnamon environment even.

i dualbooted my pc last week so i could have windows 7/ubuntu

google 'ubuntu flavors', and try out Ubuntu with different DEs preinstalled. Ubuntu MATE isn't an officially recognized flavor yet, but I like that one the most.
my ram usage is fine for what i do :3

also, i have 8 gb of ram so why does stock ubuntu lag? shouldnt that be enough
>>45599010
It's been a while since I actually used Unity, and that was with 2GB. What about your CPU/GPU? AMD is horrible anyways, but on Linux you can really notice it. That said, Debian + MATE works wonderfully on this all AMD Toshiba shitbook.
>>45599043
yep its AMD, so thats probably why huh?
