/tpg/ - ThinkPad General - W701ds edition
is there even a point to keep a trackpad there instead of like, centering the wacom tablet in the middle? also, those stickers... that wasted space above the numpad..
X200s in the mail, I'm getting rather excited now.
Going to do a good clean of the machine + repaste.
Guy in thailand from the previous thread here.
Posting from an old X200 I got for 3000 baht at Pantip plaza, which I think is a pretty good deal, considering some cosmetic damage, couple of keys are borked and the keyboard is the thai keyboard. Those are a non-issue since I'll be replacing the keyboard anyway and I can live with a palmrest cracked at the corner
The previous owner left some nice programs in such as illustrator, photoshop and arduino, apart from other bloatware people love to download. I'll install some lightweight distro and use this as a travel laptop when I return
Repaste is definitely a good idea, I got my x220 with a busted bottom case and while I was replacing it I took a look at the thermal situation as I was at 65+ on idle:
More paste on the surrounding chip surface and resistors than the IHS, with a quarter of a the surface bare. No I get 40s at idle and 73 during gaymen.

I hope you don't have a FX570M in yours, they're trash.
i do have this quadro, and believe it or not i count as the lucky ones who got one's who's working.
Why would I be jelly when I have the WUXGA panel with the X3100 graphics? Battery life, yo.
I got a x61 from ebay with a warranty. After a week the fan got loouud. Like a miniature version of putting a playing card in your bikes back tire to make it sound like a motorbike. Pretty bummed out I have to send it back and not have a computer for a bit but whatever.
no, I have a WUXGA screen on my thinkpad T61p !
I'm not sure what kind of drive caddy your 755 has, but if it's similar to the 760XL in this video, you could give it a try.
Just don't rip any ribbon cables and you should be fine.
My nigga. I'll try. Mine looks like this.
There are worse places you can take one. Alas, no time or enough surplus $ to run off back there this year.
I did have a think about it but the X220t just isn't as cute as the X220
But then it has its own character :3
Did I do good /g/? It's my first thinkpad (replacing a several year old dell) can't wait to get it!
I love my x201 & x61T, thats all for me!, I am out
>drops the mic and walks out.
I posted this in the last thread, but I don't think many people got a chance to see it.
I found a public google drive with a ton of Thinkpad Schematics and block diagrams. Some of them even have pcb layouts.
>allowing your pussy near your work area and getting pussy fur into your keyboards
>x220 just came back from Lenovo/IBM's for repair
>fixed, they even put in a new keyboard which had a bad Tab key and a little shine on the keys
Based fucking Lenovo/IBM.
Not the guy who got the surface, but i'd say that it's pretty much like one of those Tablet\netbook hybrid but on steroids.
If micro$oft would have priced them a bit more competitively they would be a great purchase, however for that price you can get a decent business class Dell\HP or a Chinkpad that has a decent sized screen and possibly decent GPU.
Would you, /g/?
>tfw dunderheaded coconuts
I had the dutch edition
I am not dutch
If it wasnt for this fucking keyboard layout, I would buy the shit out of it. Why in seven hells do they have goddamn media keys instead of F-keys on a workstation? Its not like there is not enough space.
But I love that the dedicated mousebuttons are back.
I bought a w700 with a c2e x9100, 8 gigs of ram, and a 1tb Hard drive for 400$
Pretty happy with it, but I wanted the Higher rez screen.
Anyone know if I would be able to successfully change the screen to a higher rez one?
so /g/ a bit of a problem here,i've been searching for a decent laptop for casual use and coding on C and ASM51.
My problem would be that my budget stands still at 300$ for the pc at most (not including shipping if needed)
I was thinking about getting a used thinkpad off ebay (X220) or something simillar. I really don't need something very powerfu
Any suggestions on which model should i choose?
Best TPG picture ever. Also:
>Only high PPI ThinkPads are plastic Macbooks with half a trackpoint
>not just a rehash of the Numeric Keypad
That shit is sweet but useless/collectable
I got one but I am too afraid of snapping that thing, I already tried.
hardly depending on your OS, the screen and your type of usage. Windows 7 consumes a shitload of CPU-Power which results in higher power usage. Also the ccfl-scrren needs a lot of power.
I switched from a x200 to a x200s. With the same battery the difference of ccfl to led and standard 25w to undervolted 17w cpu resulted in +40% more battery life.
Yeah I didnt supply a "genuine" windows 7 machine and I ended up refunding $40 to the guy and eBay still gave them the $240 they paid for that W500...
>tfw nervous to crossdress n post a ThinkTrap video on youtube
I did the tutorial part, but whats missing is the into/ending of me looking like a tramp.
They released an ultrabay that held a numberpad or a charger/connector to an IBM PDA.
Its only available on the T23, T30, A30/31. Unsure if the X30 dock works.
I really want to get a Thinkpad, but it seems
there are only two ways to go in the used
market. You can either spend way more
than one is worth to be sure you get one
that works, or you take a serious risk of
getting a broken piece of shit and waste
Why does it have to be so difficult?
I really want to upgrade the battery of my x220 but I don't want to spend so much money on an official OEM battery.
Just how bad are the third party batteries? Anyone got any experience with them? Thanks
Here are some pics:
all i have are pictures. it arrives thursday.
Already ordered an x201, but now an x220 popped up and I'm sort of having buyers remorse.
Do you guys think I should cancel and go for the x220?
It's mainly the lack of HD output that bothers me on the x201.
what are your thoughts on the t430s? i might get one
Did you get a model with display port?
X201 is 16:10 whereas X220 is 16:9, i'd get the outdoor screen option if I were going for the latter.
The only thing I can think of that the T430 fails at is the screen has some bad contrast ratios.
Otherwise, I've heard its well recepted.
