>my actual face when Windows doesn't have a first-party or open-source screen recording tool anno domini year of our lord 2014
CamStudio is flagged as malware by every AV
OBS sporadically covers the bottom right of the screen with black bars
screen-capture-recorder just plain fails to record
Windows Media Encoder is from a decade ago and has sub-GIF quality
I forget why Expression Encoder didn't work but it didn't
ShadowPlay only records full-screen, DirectX programs if you have a laptop
This is ridiculous. Do you know how easy it is to do a screencast on Linux?ffmpeg -f x11grab -video_size 1920x1080 -framerate 60 -i $DISPLAY -c:v libx264 -preset ultrafast out.mkv. If you use Wayland+Weston, it's even simpler; you just press Super+R.
Please, I really want to know. Does a screencast tool exist for Windows that
- is either from a first party (OS developers, driver developers, etc) OR is fully open-source and preferably libre
- can output lossless or virtually lossless video at native resolution at 60fps without any bugs
i can't get ffmpeg to record X over ~35 fps no matter my settings
>>45391644
Are you using x264 ultrafast? Anything else gives me framedrops (more compression slows the recording down, and less compression lags the system because of the high disk use).
>ShadowPlay only records full-screen, DirectX programs if you have a laptop
What ? You definitely don't need a laptop and there's a record desktop option.
>>45391672
tried that, and mpeg2, huffyuv, ffv1...
including to a ramdisk
i use hardly any disk and cpu time, i think it's more the speed ffmpeg's scraping x11, but i'm not sure
i can for example, do 30fps even recording straight to vp8
>>45391694
Do you have a laptop (with Optimus)? Desktop recording is confirmed to be unsupported for us.
>>45391724
Huh. That's really strange.
>>45391694
Wait, sorry, I just realized I butchered that sentence. It only records if you have a DESKTOP.
>Windows is shit
Wow, great news mate!
>>45391782
>Huh. That's really strange.
yea, i can get it higher by scaling down the image, but still won't go up to 60
you can see here the cpu usage is even under 100 (out of a maximum of 800)
also "IORW" in htop tells the disk usage, in this low size/bitrate mode, it's using a mere 62KB/s
>>45391502
>this faggot didnt buy Nvidia
lol eat shit pleb
>>45391502
Overwolf is great for recording games
>>45391959
>ShadowPlay
Your reading comprehension is stunning.
>>45391502
Just buy one for five bucks you cheap prick.
>>45392051
I don't install malware.
>>45391972
I don't install malware.
>>45391948
i'm starting to wonder if ffmpeg is lying to me
this clip certainly seems to be 60fps, despite the ffmpeg output
>>45392359
Do `ffprobe [the video]` and see what the framerate is.
>>45391502
I just use the one from nVidia.
>>45392428
ShadowPlay can't record the desktop on laptops.
>>45392389
both 60, but that doesn't say much
i also stepped through the video frame by frame, and there's no dupes
so perhaps the only issue is the encoder not showing me '60fps' while it runs
why not just use something like fraps?
you are already using windows so acting like a faggot and crying about open source is completely you being a tool
>>45392359
on further testing, it's not lying
the output is sped up to 60fps
this is pretty shit
>>45392466
yeah, you're fine
>>45392785
see >>45392703
i am not fine
it was doing 42fps, but the output played them back at 60fps, just sped up
look at the clock in f-zero, it's running fast
>>45392998
Post the exact command you are using. It should be:
ffmpeg -f x11grab -r 60 -s 1920x1080 -i $DISPLAY -c:v libx264 -preset ultrafast out.mkv
Try running that exact command.
I just use Camstudio if I need to record shit. The version I use has never set off any antivirus shit. Also use Lagarith for the codec. It's much better than Huffyuv
>>45394228
i get roughly 30fps with that command
i used;
$ ffmpeg -f x11grab -s 1920x1080 -r 60 -i $DISPLAY -c:v libx264 -crf 0 -preset ultrafast -deadline realtime -threads 0 out.mkv
>>45394388
Ger rid of the crf shit
>>45391502
Do those statues have helicopter hats?
>>45391502
>can't even use OBS properly
Fuck ur bad
You can use ffmpeg on windows.
>>45395727
>You can use ffmpeg on windows.
>screen-capture-recorder just plain fails to record
And OBS limits the resolution to 1536x864 (at higher resolution, there are black bars where the rest of the screen should be).
But hey, why read the OP when you can just make yourself look like a retard right off the bat?
>>45395678
i tried both, only makes a different on the output quality, not speed
>>45395940
ultrafast shouldn't be affecting the quality at all, it should be lossless no matter what. Maybe your computer just sucks.
constant vcememe
>>45391834
What are you even talking about?
SP can record the desktop it doesnt need dx applications in fullscreen anymore, and it works on laptops and desktops too.

>>45396058
what kind of hardware do i need for x11 capturing?
it's got an fx8320, ssd for linux+applications+home, four disk zfs raid or storage, and 8G ram
I usually do quick and dirty screen recordings with vlc.
>>45397308
>implying people doing "/thread" are not samefagging anyway
>>45391502
never had those problems with OBS
sounds like a personal problem, and it fits in with everything else you need
>>45396841
No. The option isn't there and in every forum it's been established that there isn't desktop capture for laptops.
windows has a recording tool, but it's only making screenshots when you do something, like clicking on something.
it then also makes a red border around it.
>>45395768
? OBS does 1080p fine
>>45398460
Great, thanks for the help!
I can't wait to go back to a real operating system.
