Time for a tech nostalgia
all things computers, internet, and BBS from the 1980s up to 2005.
if you didnt have this screensaver at some point, you are a faggot
Quite possibly the first video game I ever played.
Not saying I didn't log countless hours on space cadet, but first game? I used to play this thing so young I had no idea what was going on. I get how to trap the mice now, but why do they turn into martinis?
>Hey anon is on. im gonna see what up
>door slams shut
>o-oh... okay then... maybe next time.
twm, xsnow, and dosbox running Doom version 1.2
It was just the show in general, it wasn't that episode. It was just the first episode that showed up on the youtube search. Had you watched the show, you could have a nostalgic bond with it as well, but if you didn't then you won't.
Seems we went back to the good times
>tfw I actually love windows 8 for the flat theme
>tfw I actually use the start screen since I find it easier to find items
>am i the only one that misses Napster?
>tfw i prefer Napster over torrents
Looking at that screenshot makes me really want to switch to linux. Not with such a WM/DE, but it makes me want to reinstall ubuntu again.
Would Arch be a better choice? From what I read steam is unofficial on it, and I'm kinda dependant on it.
Steam works great on Arch. But let's not turn this thread into another pissing contest about what distro is better than others. If you need to ask, there are about 20 threads right now that you can go ask in.
Yeah, I know, but it almost always results in a shitstorm of arguing. I'll probably just install arch to get more experience with linux in general + it's fun installing distros.
I'll run it for a while and see how I do. I love the fact that it doesn't come with shit I don't need.
try it, steam works just fine (which it's officially only for ubuntu/debian, that only really goes as far as packaging, it'll work on any linux system with the correct dependancies available)
as >>45391067 said though, use another thread if you want more details
Not that far back, but this game took up a lot of my childhood
Fuck I remember the first time I went on tutorial island in 2003 god damn it was cool as fuck when I was a kid.
i thought lighting fires was the best thing ever.
>tfw you will never feel like that for a shitty game again
>Getting 3 friends all in a room playing Runescape
>Mine rune essence for days
>1000 = 100k gp
>Life was good
>you will never play another game on MSN ZONE again.
>you will never play Jedi Knight with cog hacks again
This and AOL with it's GEOS bs to give you a nice gui and webpage rendering on your DOS machine.
I miss those times. Fuck today's day and age. I'd rather have an old win 98 machine, dial-up speeds, and napster running than a piece of shit 8.1 desktop with wireless and I torrent. Fuck my life. I miss the 90s and Korn and Nintendo 64 and Super Smash Bros and pizza parties and dad driving me and my best bud from 6th grade Ryan and my bratty teenage sister Hannah (who was a varsity cheerleader at Ponoma high and got fucked by the entire football team) in his big ass fucking 95' Hummer H1 (my dad was a venture capitalist and could afford one) to the mall so that me and Ryan could buy new skate shoes for our skateboards and chow down in the food court on some Burger King while my sister says "stop hogging all the fries, fat ass." I miss riding at the skate park and watching Cat Dog and Rocko's modern life and All That and playing Counter Strike on my win 98 e machine and playing Korn and drinking slurries and ditching class to see a rated r movie. Mmmmmmmm.
Use 30 days free trial of unlimited internet from prodigy , trial runs out. Go to clock set time to last year, continue getting free internet. I miss the early days.
>Try surfing net to find cool new sites.
>Everything is built for normals and is broken as fuck without allowing scripts.
>20+ calls to shit like quantserve and imrworldwide.
fukken Treasure Mathstorm
Kindergarten computer class, I was doomed at an early age
>Visit web page
>only 3 links
>the webpage itself and 2 google analytics
>allow only the webpage
>3452 more calls to sift through because FUCK YOU
>abandon site never to return.
why to assholes do this?
No, it was a phone line connection that ate up like 7 phone lines to run. Typically a business would use this. It was like 1.5Mbps which was screaming fast in 2001.
My dad ran his business in our basement, so I had a T1 line in my house. God those were the days...
The MindMaze game included with Encarta was my fuckin' shit man
anyone remember how scary the megarace intro was? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsJ0lghEJoQ
The keen 7-9 fan mods are the shit, especially the last one
Isaac please not post modern anime in nostalgia thread.
My first PC, pic is the same model but obviously not my photo.
Bought it (along with a scanner, fax, and printer) for $3,000. I remember downloading the Age of Empires trial (72 hour continuous download) and playing the shit out of it.
>trying to explain to my child in the future what the world was like pre internet/tablets/smartphones/etc
Man as I kid i used to imagine that thousands of years in the future we'd have tablets like in star trek, but we have them now. Hell im typing this message on a tablet.
Who the fuck is that little punk?
THIS is Math Blaster.
I still have a picture of myself showing my friend that I found my dads playboy via webcam. Man webcams were so fucking bad back then.
Get on my level kid. This bad boy was about 9 grand when I got it (with the now packed away disk drives, hard disk and printer), ran my ARPS and SSTV frontends till a few years ago when the Z80 shit the bed. I will repair it one day.
And this is the "printer" I was using before I got the commodore kit..
> not WinMX master race
> not using the black and whte BIOS pallet
Do you have a vagina anon?
Pic unrelated, first laptop.
Me too. Here's a couple old pages that still exist:
I once made a simple Doom map with DEU 5.21, never tried the 5.3 beta version (looks nice though). Gonna have to remedy that! :-)
My first experience was with twm, on a little 486 with just 4 MB running Slackware. It's also simpler to configure, although not as powerful as fvwm. Anyway, twm does everything I need.
Screenshot is old fvwm 1 default window decorations, with first ever MOD tracker for Unix machines!
how many times have I tried to kill the purple dressed son of a bitch!
Those days I had the computer in pic.
In early 90's got an Amiga 500.
Good machines, fun times!
I wish I'd saved the case from this, it would have been perfect for a sleeper build.
Got pic related for $15
Expecting it to arrive in next week.
Seller said hdd and charger are broken and battery is obviously out.
Hoping to get it up and running with ~$200
What do ya think?
>XT compatible palmtop
>40 hours battery life
Oh how the mighty HP had fallen.
i haven't put a bluray into a bluray player
shit, i didn't even have a dvd player until 2005, and now i just download things from the internet, store them on hard drives, and play them on my computer or media center, no optical discs involved
Arent you guys cute.
> You will never find a betacord with rediculous 70's porn pre-installed.
Shame they fell off after the Green one.
>i miss Korn
I saw them live just last week. Original lineup minus David.
Star Wars Racer! MAH NIGGA!
I got that piece of shit working on Windows 8 + GTX970. It took a whole day of messing around with DLLs, compiling shit, finding old cracks, hex editing, ...
And I played it for like 30 minutes.
> in the distant year of 1995.
> cyborg women come to earth to try and convert earth women into sexual slaves.
> by beating the fuck out of dat pussy with dem silver android tongues.
I actually never got to see them live so I can't compare. They did do a good mix of old and new songs though. They seemed pretty tame compared to what my friend said they were like in the 90's though.
Hell, thanks to the internet you can see the set list
