ProtonMail, son.

Only if you don't have any self respect.

I think that they have posted on their blog that everyone should be able to finally get in by early January.
They have recently upped storage on a free account from 100MB to 500MB, which could be an indication that things are stable enough now to let everyone in.
If you haven't already, then reserve an account name.

How are these, really? They both look pretty promising. Any pros and cons to each?
e-mail server: any of them (gmail supports IMAP)
e-mail client: thunderbird. mutt if you can take the text-based challenge.
Get PGP while you're at it. Encrypt everything. Why the hell not?

OpenMailBox is ran by one or two French kids. They take days to reply to e-mail inquiries. They can potentially pull the plug at any time, really, though they probably won't.
ProtonMail is LavaBit 2.0, in a way, but not based in Nazi America, so it won't be easily shut down by gooberment.
Any recommendation on non-web based e-mail client?
Mutt sucks badly. I hate it with passion. So far I liked Alpine most but I'm lazy to maintain my own package with Maildir patches.

Forgot to add that Thunderbird/Evolution is fucking piece of shit which I refuse to use.
>>45346147
Thunderbird is fine.
>>45345875
you're wrong, but it's cute.
>>45346168
Nope. The last sane version didn't even know how to wrap text at 80 columns (and extension which allowed it sucked). New Thunderbird is just insane...

How is it wrong? If you don't respect yourself, then you go ahead, and willingly become Google's bitch to be data mined and sold like a product.

Adorable, even.
