If anyone else has one of these NES -> famicom adapters and wants expansion sound out, here's how you do it. Be sure to cut the trace that connects the two pins on the famicom side.

I do a little gameboy advance hobby programming using the free C compiler called devkitPro. gameboy advance is just like the snes, but smaller screen resolution, plus hardware sprite rotation and the ARM cpu is much faster.
