You see OP, you can't just use your server.

You need to put as many layers of software between your application and the CPU as possible. A good way to proceed would be Node.js -> Docker -> coreOS -> kvm -> Debian -> hyperV -> Windows server -> Microsoft Azure -> hyperV -> Windows server -> CPU
>>
>>45270841
I don't know what to do with mine as well.
Just keep it running, one day you will log on and do shit.
>>
I'm considering making an old computer into a server for when I'm not at home and would like to access things.

Does the hardware have to be gud or no? I assume no except the hard drive and cooling.

if you're using ldap or active directory, you can configure it to make sure the machines all looks the same... ie same programs, files, permissions.... useful if running lots of machines. If you don't need to access anything at home/ where you would put your server.... I mean..... what are you trying to do in life? then it would be easier to tell you if a server could be useful

How to install a CS server on Linux?

I installed it correctly, but it accepted only clients with legitimate copies.

my server does a few things, it generates these images im posting.
also it queries weather data and tweets it to me

and my favourite, searches for twitter users being rude assholes, generates garbage based on their latest tweets and posts it to them. if they reply it keeps on answering.
>>
>>45273440
well i personally have a vps which serves e-mail, a website, a gps tracking service, and a voice chat service

my main computer at home is a file server, allowing my htpc (a raspberry pi) to stream videos off of it

>>
>>45273546
what sort of thread do you usually go in on here
>>
>>45273546
i think the problem here is not that you don't understand servers per-se, but rather that you don't understand computers
>>
>>45273312

sudo apt-get install cs-server
>>
Install LXC. Setup shit in containers. The main OS is only for SSH, possibly with 2 factor auth. You have a guest for a web server, another for an IRC bouncer, another for a VPN, another for a FTP server, another for a seedbox. You get the idea.

You'll learn a lot if you set this all up and it'll be useful as fuck. Buy a cool domain name while you're at it.
>>
>>45273546
>So its like a cloud
fyi "cloud" is a marketing term for "server"

>hosted on the cloud = hosted on a server
>personal cloud = personal server
>backup to the cloud = send all your files to our servers
>>
>>45273577
When i browse 4chan on my phone it opens up /g/ automaticly for some reason and sometimes i find a thread that catches my eye
The other day i heard some of the tech guys in my office talking about the servers and i was interested and I would have asked them myself but they looked like huge loosers (like the kids who bring magic cards to school)
>>
>>45273542
i search for a lot of mean language and pick a random result, then pull the last 200 or so tweets from that user, and based on the percentage of a certain word following another i generate a sentence word by word, then reply with it.
usually its total garbage but nobody seems to notice, just enough "fuck you"'s in there and people go apeshit

it also replies if people "talk" with it, with more garbage generated from the user.
