Post watches, fap to NATO straps, and look at my arm hair.

Remember, you're only a pleb if you don't wear a watch!

Watches should be worn on the left arm, one at a time.
>>
I recently inherited several watches, and would like to know more about them. Unfortunately, none of them have came with their manuals, and the only markings on them don't indicate a specific model (i.e. Seiko Chronograph Automatic) but instead seem to name the category to witch these watches belong.

There are two further complications:
I do not own a good camera, as so cannot show you any pictures of them.
And they are probably at least 15 years old.

How can I learn more about them, besides taking them to a watchmaker/repairman?

Watch number 1
Text: “SEIKO/CHRONOGRAPH/AUTOMATIC” Written on the upper part of the front, in three lines, below the 12º’clock position. No numbers from 1-12. Dark blue background, white hands, weekday and month day displayed on horizontally on the right side. The glass is flat and is 3.1 cm in diameter. There is a smaller “watch” (sorry I don’t know the term) on the front, above the 6 o’clock position. It reads 30/10/20 and the pointer moves very slowly. On the back it says “STAINLESS STEEL 6139-7070 WATER RESISTANT” around the word “SEIKO”. There is the number 359931 over “JAPAN J”. It is charged by hand movement.

Thank you for doing this.
>>
>>44000965
oh, and it has "TACHYMETER" written on the outermost area of the face, followed by the numbers 500, 400, 350, 300, 250, 220, 200, 190-100, 95, 90-60.
It has two buttons and one knob between them.
The casing is polished steel.

Even if the specifics are unavailable, I would like to know as much about these watches as possible. If you can direct me of websites where I can learn more about them, that would be of great help.

I want to get an analog watch. I already have a calculator watch. I want something simple, black-on-white, but still reliable and good-looking. Of course, it'll have to be mostly black and white because I want to be able to wear it while in uniform. Any recommendations?

Watch 2
Steel casing with two buttons on the right side and a knob between them, used for winding it and adjusting the time. Tachymeter on the outside of the glass, but written with an accent “TACHYMÈTRE”. Glass is slightly convex and is 3.2 cm in diameter. Face is black, with the inscription “OMEGA/Speedmaster/PROFESSIONAL” on the upper portion. No numbers for the hours. 3 smaller ‘watches’ (I can’t find the right word for it) to the right, left and below the center of the face. One is clearly for seconds, reading 60, 20, 40, with a dial that moves the same angular speed as the seconds had, and it is to the left. To the right there is one moving very slowly, with the numbers 30,10 and 20 on it. The one on the bottom has 12, 3, 6 and 9 on the usual positions, and I don’t think the hand is moving. On the back there is some sort of seahorse under the word SPEEDMASTER and above the omega symbol.

Sorry for the late reply.

This watch is a 1970's Japanese-made automatic watch by the well respected, affordable watch company Seiko. It features a tachymeter on the outer-rim of the dial which can be used for measuring your speed and distance travelled, a chronograph (stopwatch) which tracks your time using the 30 minute sub-dial once activated by pressing the highest of the three buttons on the case. It also features a full date and day calendar wheel. No seconds hands are present on this watch. The hands would have been originally luminous and possibly a little radioactive due to the material used at the time. The crown is almost set inside the case to hide it from view and also unusually can change the date by pushing it inwards towards the watch as opposed to rotating it on its own notch. The glass is only made from crystal so unless it was cared for extremely well or had work done, it should be quite scratched. The movement features 17 jewels and works on kinetic energy as you move, it will hold its max charge for approximately 35-40 hours.

There is still a small market for these watches today and they normally sell anywhere from £50-£250 depending on condition.

Now this is something a bit special. What you appear to have here is a vintage 1960/70's original Omega Speedmaster. This watch is the first watch that was worn on the moon by the Apollo astronauts and it was built especially for this purpose. Hence it earning the nickname 'Moon Watch'. The watch had to feature a manual-wind movement as an automatic movement would obviously not work without gravity. The glass is made from hesalite which is more resistant to scratches than crystal but not as hard as sapphire. The problem with using sapphire though was that if it were to break during the mission, tiny bits of sharp glass would go everywhere and potentially cause disaster whereas hesalite will remain in one piece when broken. Similarly to the Seiko this watch also features a tachymeter and a chronograph. The chronograph is a little more in-depth as it covers minutes and hours on the 3 o'clock and 6 o'clock sub-dials respectively. The sub-dial at 9 o'clock is for your seconds. This model proved to be such a big success that they continued producing it to this day with only slight modifications from the original.

Have a read up on Omega's history, they are one of the great Swiss watch companies.

A brand new Speedmaster today will cost you £2880 new and about £1600 used. A vintage model from the 60/70's in good working order can fetch anywhere between £1200-2500.

Pic related is my 2011 Speedmaster.

Features in watches are known as 'complications' because each additional feature makes the mechanism required to run the watch significantly more complex. For example, 'grand complication' watches will generally have features like moonphase, perpetual calendar, and other shit that makes the movement super dope

lots of people rip on homage watches. the 'rodina' (it's actually manufactured entirely by seagull and sold under an old soviet watch brand name for some reason) gives you a lot that you don't get from other watches at that price point. the sapphire crystal and decorated movement are big plusses.

>it's actually manufactured entirely by seagull and sold under an old soviet watch brand name for some reason
Chinese companies bought up a lot of the Soviet brand names, maybe thinking they had some recognition. "CJIABA" (knockoff of 'C????') seems to be one such hilarious example. Many of those brand names were used primarily for foreign markets, so instead of the watches being exported from Russia, they decided to make them in China instead. Sekonda is a good example of this, as they used to rebrand saught-after Poljot chronographs used in the space program, but now it's all crap made in China.

so unless its under warranty, has some sentimental value to you or something, its either buy a new one or do it yourself. of course, you could also ask some watchmaker for how much it'd cost. maybe it won't be that expensive.

least being fat is solvable. I don't think anybodies solution to that problem is going to be "gain some fat so you can wear a pebble"

if you don't want to be healthy, its easy as hell, especially when you're not a teenager anymore - loads of people I know have gained weight with age.

its easy to eat unhealthy bullshit that hardly fills you yet contains ton of carbs, to drink soda/juices etc. a single fast food meal can contain over half the energy a regular person burns through a day.

getting drunk can do the trick, too. a fuckload of beer and some junk food and you're set

I've heard nothing but good things about battery life from regular people who have actually used the device.

Example: http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/09/07/weekend-poll-did-you-buy-a-moto-360/#comment-1578058492

It's the journalists who for some reason have a problem with battery life. Maybe they are using it non-stop and that's why they get terrible battery life.

yeah it's just sad, I haven't got it diagnosed yet but I'm pretty sure I have anxiety+OCD+depression but they go hand-in-hand so I guess it's pretty normal. I feel like I can't enjoy something new because I expect it to fail soon and with every drop/scratch I feel so goddamn angry. I actually don't feel any emotion when I see something that's out of order (i.e the 9geg definition of OCD) and my desk is a mess.
>>
>>44019689
>Do I have to pay VAT or customs tax if I buy something used?
I guess it depends on how expensive the item is and if it's marked as "gift"
>>
>>44019743
Are you afraid of dying?
>>
>>44019709
True, I guess it's because of being a poorfag as well since if I had thousands of dollars that I could play with every month I wouldn't care if a $200 monitor got scratched or if I dropped something. But that's enough offtopic for this thread.

>>44019753
So the problem can be solved by convincing the seller to write "gift" on the package?

Whenever I buy something from China that's what the crafty fucks write on the package, that's why I have no experience since I always buy crap from China. Last time I bought a 50 euro laser and I was glad it was marked as "gift flashlight" since I would've had to pay 25% VAT + customs tax for it.

yep. saying you feel a "little OCD" is meaningless, like saying you are feeling cancerous today. you can say that you're feeling obsessive compulsive, but not that you feel OCD. that's not so much a comment on you as 9gag plebs.

that's a pretty normal feeling. most people won't talk about it openly, but unless you're particularly stupid everybody has the same feeling of universal despair. I can very vividly remember when I first realized this fact, still haven't really got over it.

>>44019743
different anon here, I don't have OCD (I was psychotic once, nowadays I suffer from milder paranoia + anxiety while on medication)
but paranoia that makes your life harder is never a good thing.
one thing to try: ignore these feelings. if you feel like googling about a problem, don't. if you need to do thing x to keep the anxiety/paranoia away, try not doing it.
it feels bad at first but for many, the feelings only grows stronger the more you avoid the thing that "causes" it. of course, this may be impossible; bad enough anxiety is...bad.
>>

well I can function quite normally as I am now.
a pretty small dose of anti-psychotics does the trick nowadays, as well as benzodiapezine as a backup - it was worse when I needed more, a big dose of anti-psychotics fucks up your feelings big time. I dropped the SSRI as soon as my doctor let me, those weren't very good ever - too many not-nice-at-all things from them (particularly fucking up my sexuality). benzos are more as a sort of small thing to make me feel a bit more reassured about being out and about - I rarely actually use them.

I did need to try different meds etc, though, and I did spend quite some time in really bad shape. and its still a constant mental game against all the fears, sometimes I can't eat from a plate if I didn't clean it myself, sometimes I just can't go out because I've got another irrational fear, but I'm managing - without the meds, I probably wouldn't. so, meds sure are better at the moment.

>>44019882
I don't even know what I have, I guess I could be paranoid as well since I have social anxiety and I always care too much about the future and my health problems. I never got diagnosed with anything so I'm not sure.

You're right about that googling problem, I always look up to see what new health problems I could have it's as if I'm trying to find new sources of anxiety when I don't have anything better to give a shit about.

Talking to people makes most of those feelings go away but when I become too focused with technology and other more introverted activities I start obsessing over tiny things and get that burning feel in chest that every time I ignore gets worse. It's even worse that I can't convince myself that those problems are big enough for me to feel that angry about them, I need to have a bigger issue on my mind in order to stop caring about those small details.

Thanks for the talk anons and sorry to other anons for off topic posts.

Things don't fall at the same rate. The rate at which something falls is its speed.

The rate at which the object accelerates while falling is constant though.

They didn't even become accurate to within +/- 10s a day and inexpensive enough to mass manufacture until japan joined the watch game.
Before then, +/- 30s on luxury swiss watches and 100 jewel movements was typical.

what are the differences between timex weekender, originals, "men's quartz watch" and others? they look almost the same, only with different color themes. Is the price and the colors the only differences? Thanks in advance.

So it's bad? My friend just bought it for 160€ because it was on sale from 300 to 160€, though I very much doubt that 300 is the regular price.

Brand is called Calvaneo 1583

Blue or Black.

Anyone had one?

Is the blue a dark enough blue that it could still be mistaken for black or is it obviously blue?
>>
>>44020185
The hands won't fit, you'll have to find your own hands.
You'll have to make a custom spacer for the movement.
You'll have to snap off the dial feet and attach it using dial dots.
You'll have to get a different stem. You could attach the crown to the new stem, though.
>>
>>44024310
>steinhart

steinhart is a german microbrand comprised of 15 guys who sell fairly well made rolex homages of both modern and vintage designs with either ETA 2824-2 movements or their own movement which is built on the ETA

you're thinking of Stuhrling.
>>
>>44024581
the brand is shit
the movement is okay. based on what I can see from the picture it's a Seagull ST-25 if you want to do your own research.
>>
>>44024413
>>44024081

No one know?
>>
>>44024803
unless nice-looking includes fashion brands like kenneth cole, armani, relic, fossil, etc. in which case it's already using the $5 miyota movement and you can just drop it in.
>>
>>44024937
pulsar is seiko
they use their cheaper quartz movements in them. it's not worth much. it's an okay watch though.
lucien piccard is like stuhrling, invicta and the like. the watch isn't worth anything.
>>
>>44024912

Does the brand being shit mean that it's quality is subpar? How does it hold up to a similarly priced citizen watch?

>Steinhart is equivalent to Chinese shit
Can you be any more fucking stupid?

Steinhart is a very nice brand in Germany using ETA movements that are largely Rolex Homages, very good homages too and at great prices.

Also some really nice original pieces.
>>
>>44025128
yeah, build quality is subpar and the business itself engages in shitty business practices, most notably deceptively inflating MSRPs and then selling them at 90% off to make it look like you're getting a good deal.
Similarly priced citizen would be better.

>sorry man. I can't keep up with all these new flash in the pan microbrands
Steinhart has been around for quite a while and is definitely not a "microbrand" and has gotten rather respected from their Homages and Pilot watches.

Not only that but they actually use good movements, unlike actual microbrands.

Also, you're retarded and anyone with any knowledge of watches outside what the nearest Macy's could tell you that.
>>
>>44026861
steinhart has been around for like 10ish years but they've been hot shit the entire time so everybody knows about them.
Steinhart is literally 15 guys, which makes it even more impressive that they make their own movement, even if it's based on the 2824.
