louder? maybe. that's not the point of speakers though. that kind of positioning of the monitors in relation to the listening position will completely ruin the imaging. high frequencies are very directional. you should always align the tweeter pointing towards your head if you want accurate sound reproduction. even with waveguided drivers the high frequencies literally disappear if you move yourself out of the acoustic axis. those are some cheapo M-Audio monitors but still, the principle is the same.

Finally getting a proper tower, to replace the Asus G750JW I got last year (that I'm having big performance issues with... changed OS, added another HDD and switched out RAM, still have memory issues. But, I digress), so I decided to totally re-do my battle station. I'm getting a new desk and wanted /g/'s opinion on it as a game station.

My plan is to get a monitor arm to mount on the back of the lower platform to hold two monitors, and build some other desk out of press/ply-wood just to have as extra space.

Games crashing, freezing, not responding, screen going black randomly. Before I changed the RAM I often got a BSOD showing the error MEMORY_MANAGEMENT (0x0000001A ). I had assumed it was a RAM failuer so I replaced it with some cheap DDR3 106000 sticks I got from best buy. No more BSOD's and less game failure but I still often crash or get weird performance issues. (Example: Playing L4D2, my game will freeze and repeat a snippet of audio until it recovers, but I can't move.)

I did use memtest86, it was a memory issue, I didn't know I was being unclear with that. But even after replacing the RAM I'm still having issues. I tries each of the original sticks individually and I could still boot the computer so obviously one alone was not the issue. I don't really know what the problem was but I didn't feel like dealing with it, plus I wanted a desktop anyways.

This is just also really off point, I just wanted opinions on a desk.

5 minutes is a long time when you're in control of it from start to finish, and the flight times are variable based on equipment used. I could push 8-9 minutes of flight time out of it if I wanted, but that would reduce the agility the machine has. I've got it set up so it's reasonable fast for 5-6 minute flight times.

If I wanted long airtime FPV, I'd just build an FPV plane instead.

Not really. There are exposed electrical components. Even if they were shielded, there's still the issue of moisture damage. You can build ones that have better protection if you wanted, but it's not advisable to fly them in the rain. It's akin to sitting on your front lawn using your laptop while it's raining.

Purchase a NanoQX and learn how to fly. While doing such, google the fuck out of everything before building one. Realize that it'll be a heavy investment in both time and money if you wanna do things right. The more time you spend learning about what parts affect what, how to do this and that and what skills and tools are required, the better.

i was looking through some old discs the other day and found a picture of my old compaq work laptop circa 1997. the altec lansing speakers were mine, and they cost 24 bucks at the time. i still have them and they are probably the best electronics purchase i have ever made in terms of durability and the amount of use i have gotten out of them.
