Kingsoft office a good office suite for linux or is libre office considered better?
>>
>>
Which one is more stable?
>>
>>43126799
Just use word perfect + Latex like a normal person
>>
>>43126799
>not FOSS
into the trash etc
>>
>>43127203
the moment there's a good FOSS alternative to office I will be the first to jump all over that shit
>>
>>43127184
And how does one use word perfect on GNU+linux?
>>
>>43127220
theres at leasttwo, step it up
>>
>>43127220
LibreOffice
OpenOffice.org
Calligra

There's three. Start jumping.
>>
>>43126799
While wanting to write documents with an IEEE format, libreoffice kept going shit, i dislike the UI (I think it got better, though), it's complicated and doesn't open documents made in M$ Office. Kingston is far better for me.
>>
I'm pretty sure Kingsoft is generally better, although I personally use libreoffice. Kingsoft office isn't open source.
>>
>>43127225
He said normal person.
The kind of person who still thinks Linux is a washing powder, and GNU describes an animal.
>>
>>43127336
It's Apache Open Office now, not OpenOffice.org
>>
>>43127225
>GNU+linux
Linux

>>>>good<<<< FOSS alternative
>>

libre and open office are both excellent and widely used in academic institutions. They are somewhat easier to use and more efficient than later microsoft office packages in my experience
>>
>>43127581
They are somewhat equivalent to Microsoft Office if you want to do basic stuff like bold or center your text.
They lack a /lot/ of advanced features that are used in the real world (i.e. not academics).

Maybe I should have highlighted >>alternative<< instead of good, but I was going for the troll. They are good software by themselves, good simple word processors, but they are no alternative to MS Office (and other editing software).

Any user who uses MS Office professionally will very quickly find that this or that feature doesn't exist in (Libre|Open)Office.

I don't use MS Words so much as I use MS Excel. But both the performances and the features of Excel are no match for any FOSS software (and I have tried all of them afaik).

It's a chinese ripofff
but a damn good one
use it
>>
i want kingsoft look on LO
how?

Unless you're working as a office fag who had to type company letters in word.

latex is good if your autistic and want to spend 10+ hours making a simple chart

never using that shite again

I don't think that means what you think it means.

The consensus is that Latex is the best for long and complex documents, such as theses and scientific papers. I'm sure there are templates that make the creation of simple documents easier too.

What meme?
>>
>>43128700

The shit is free. And its obvious you guys are underage. The freetard le maymay was a fucking joke that newfags started to spam around to try and fit in.

no, you go back to /v/
>>
>>43128723
no you're thinking of the rms sandal-licking. everyone knows gnewsense is a shit and the fsf is a collection of champagne socialists. /g/ is mostly poorfags so all the praise you see for 10yo+ chinkpads & free software is understandable.

I use the free office online shit microsoft has https://office.live.com/start/Word.aspx

I use latex templates for cv and applications and stuff. Libreoffice if i wanna open .doc documents

can you show me your favorite one?
I tried a few ones and all of them not good enough.
>>

use vim + latex

The nerve of this fucking pleb.

Yeah, no. That only happens if you're literally retarded.
>>
>>43131055
(Which you are, considering the fact you don't know the difference between "your" and "you're")

Fixed.
>>
>>43130580
these ones are good:
http://www.latextemplates.com/cat/curricula-vitae

i used a slightly different version of the moderncv template
>>
>>43131112
I made my own template to write mine.
>>
So I've always wanted to switch to linux but this is what is holding me back. Can these suites on linux do what microsoft word can? Keep in mind that I'm studying mechanical engineering along with physics, and I need to insert a shit ton of equations with other stupid little symbols. Can this do that?
>>
>>43131156
Then you need to use latex, which works perfectly on linux. Every Windows Office fails at complicated equations. Thesis for example in mech engineering are usually written in latex, same with most sciences.
>>
>>43131226
well you can write text in lets say ms office and generate equation in some math software or in latex and then insert the pic of the equation, no?
>>
>>43127658
Sadly, I confirm this. Even more sadly than I love the fact that the scripting language of Libre/Open Office is JavaScript.
>>
>>43131320
You could create the equation in Matlab and export it as a picture, but the typesetting will still be unprofessional.
>>
I have replaced word with latex.
I have replaced powerpoint with latex.
I have replaced excel with octave.
I don't use any of this as much as I used to but I am a lot happier.
>>
>>43132089
>You could create the equation in Matlab
>Matlab
>writing equations
no.

Maple, Mathematica, Mathtype, shitty Microsoft Math or just the built-in formula editor are a better option.

I advocate LaTeX for anything technical, no exceptions. It's oftentimes a huge pain in the butt with its nonsensical error messages, but the results are better than anything else.
