VPSDime through their LEB prmotion.

1TB traffic, 30GB storage, 100up/down, using to run OpenVPN. It's around $35/yr

Can I use a VPS as a VPN?

Some providers will let you do this. You just need to ask.

I have one with BlueVM.

I also have a colocated server with FDCServers, though that's going to get kicked to the curb as soon as I'm done porting my website from .net to Go.

Best prices I've found so far.

- Great control panel
- Lots of OS images to choose from (though, I use my own)
- No bandwidth limit
- Actual KVM server with console

Sweet, I've been meaning to shut off some of my servers here in my home. The reason I ask is because some of those webhosting sites confuse giving customers their own VPS that's only for webhosting, and others allow full shell access. Thanks, Anon!

Digital Ocean.

I could probably do better pricewise, seeing as the only things I host are a barely populated IRC server, a few small personal websites, an IRC/Twitter bot, and a personal VPN for when I'm out in public, but they've been pretty reliable for $5 bucks a month.

Really would like to save where I can, but I don't even know where to look for a better deal.

Virtual Private Server.
The company will provision a little chunk on their dedicated servers for you.
>>
>>43095417

You know how you can run virtual systems on your PC these days? Like, a window that contains a Linux install, even though you're on a Windows system. That's virtualisation.

A VPS is a server equivalent. Someone buys an expensive server then dishes our smaller less powerful accounts on that server (except each account is a self contain system in itself).
>>
>>43095417
The cloud is a horrible term that should die, but pretty much. It's basically just a virtualized OS, usually Linux, that lets you run whatever on it, be it a website, IRC server, whatever the fuck can run on a normal OS provided the VPS has the right specs.
>>
>>43095417
Virtual Private Server. Like a VirtualBox or VMWare containr. All the advantages of a physical dedicated server, except for lower performance and much lower price (and obviously lack of control over hardware). Also can dynamically scale as needed, unlike a physical dedicated sever. You get full root access and can choose what OS to run, unlike shared hosting.

Some advertise a VPS as "cloud", such as DigitalOcean.
>>
>>43095471
>>43095482
>>43095484
Ah I see. Thanks for the nice explanation. Have a nice day.
>>
>>43095511
>You get full root access and can choose what OS to run, unlike shared hosting.
Actually most of VPS hosters are using OpenVZ, and it's shred kernel limits OS selection to selected GNU/Linux distros.
XEN and KVM doesn't have this problem, but these cost usually more compared to OpenVZ VPS.

their services is pretty meh and I suspect they host more VMs per server such as if everyone uses 100% it gets slow
however it werks 99% of the time and popping a few 0.99€ to experiment with system administration is great

Why do you even care about these when you have bigger problems. Fix your life nigger. You can afford a $5 a month VPS with a shitty cashier job. You can kiss a woman if you get and shape, work on not being socially awkward, and learn to do you own laundry and fix you own food. You can masturbate to animals and watch anime in your free time.

Shit, I know this is probably a ruse, but holy fuck, I know there's people like this out here reading this. Get your acts together niggas, you can do it.

Quite a few don't, and some only prohibit servers while allowing clients and shit. I know Digital Ocean has no restrictions on IRC whatsoever as long as you're not getting DDOS'd or running a botnet. There was another host I can't remember the name of that allowed IRC software, but refused to provide support for it.
