So, imagine going to wall.rb on a web server. When it loads you see a text line for a name, and multi-line text field for some words, and a submit button. Understand you see boxes, each with a name, date and comment on inside it that stretches on for miles. I can make a script to read each box and print the name and comment to the terminal, but I don't understand how to make it so that wen you click a submit button the text inside the text boxes get written to the page. How does it work? And how do I make it know where in the page to write it? I have a very very vauge idea in my head but it would just make one comment ever appear on the page, and it would be whatever the last submitted one was because it would just overwrite the last one. But that would just be in the terminal. Not with html.

Like that but written in Ruby. I'm trying to learn Ruby itself, everyone tells me not to go the wrong route like so many people have and learn Rails/Sinatra but not Ruby. Using one of those seems like calling a physicist when all you need is a carpenter.

Could I please have this explained to me like I'm five? Thanks in advance.

My new build has a weird issue. When I turn it on the fans will spin up and the power LED will come on, then it dies but the power light remains on. Then it turns back on, then back off, then on again. After that third time it runs just fine. Temps are fine, voltages are well within acceptable ranges. Read some reviews that say gigabyte boards will do this after overclocking as a safety feature? Also, the NB is HOT. That normal on a 970 chipset?

How much difference does an AMP make to speakers?

I'm thinking of buying some wharfedale 9.1 bookshelves, but I'm not sure whether to get an amp with it or not. Also, are modern motherboards close to the performance of most soundcards?

I've looked at reviews of people using amps and the like, although the general consensus is they do sound much better, I've never been able to tell the difference since I've never had the chance to compare.

What would /g/ recommend buying with those speakers, if anything? I'm more interested in sound accuracy than anything else.

So I'm in the process of building my first pc. The things I have to get are:
processor (intel i3 maybe)
motherboard
Power supply (Rosewill capstone)
gpu
Now I don't need this PC right now and I'm willing to wait, but is there a time of the year when buy these certain items are cost effective? I do not plan on going cheap with the GPU (around 200 to 300 range). Should I wait until next year to buy some of these parts?

Do not get an i3, unless you don't plan on doing much with this, also what do you plan on doing with it, pls include detail.

Second mobo, gigabyte/asus (no MSI), don't nigger out of your psu ever, gpu, AMD 280 is good, get 770 if it goes down, should soon.

>i3
no. If you need to cheap out on your CPU go AMD 8350
>>
>>43075421
don't forget about ram
i'd probably go with an i5 if you already plan to spend up to 300 bucks on the gpu
as for the time of year, doesn't really matter. hardware prices do change over time and their not always going down, but it doesn't depend on that. it's rather about how much the resources go for at the moment, whether some factories had to close down because of floods or similar stuff and how high the demand for a certain piece of hardware is at the moment.
in the end you'll just have to buy at some point and it doesn't matter all that much

I really want to learn a coding language but not only am I not sure which, I don't really know what I'd use it for. I don't want to do web development, I don't want to make games and I have no real ideas for building a programme. I guess it's just learning for the sake of learning.

What do?
>>
>>43075653
x86 ASM
>>
>>43075588
>no. If you need to cheap out on your CPU go AMD 8350

it really depends on what you're doing, the i3 has 50% better single threaded performance and that's a lot. the only thing an 8350 would be better for is playing BF4 and transcoding videos, the i3 quite literally stomps all over it in everything else you use a computer for.

there is no good reason at all to buy an 8350, if you are going to spend $180 on a cpu then get a locked i5.
>>
>>43075653
Learn python, it just werks, great beginner language. If you don't like it don't program and it won't waste to much time, if you end up liking it go to C++ Java C# or otherwise. The tutorials on the Python site are pretty decent, great to get you started, and the /g/ wiki will help you go further if you plan on it

i guess that depends on what kind of programmers and how good they are.
i'd say your average sysadmin will make something around 60k a year, which, tbh is quite a lot considering that if your good at it, you'll mainly sit around and shitpost on 4chan all day.
you'll probably make a similar amount in web development, probably a bit more as a .net or java codemonkey and possibly a lot more if you contract as a cobol specialist to support legacy systems

Lately while torrenting on my PIA VPN my connection is going from 1.2 MB/s to 10 KB/s every few minutes. It used to be a steady 2.0+ MB/s. Is Comcast pulling fuckery on me? They recently changed my DNS from Atlanta to San Jose for no reason. I am using the Ubuntu iso torrent to test since I know I should be getting 100% of my bandwidth with that.

>>43075803
I don't get what you're saying. C was my first language and I learned it just fine.
>>
>>43075749
the single threaded advantage is huge when you consider very few things are optimized for multiple cores. web browsing, office work, 90% of games, etc are all only 1 or 2 threads. don't underestimate a pair of haswell hyperthreaded cores running at 3.5GHz. The G3258 looks like an awesome bargain also.

The 8350 is only good at very specific heavily threaded integer work loads.
>>
>>43075834
I dunno, he doesn't even know if he cares for programming, seems like a lot of work to learn for something that he might hate. Advantage though, if you learn C first anon, it will prepare you for basically every language.
>>
>>43075803
i think c is a pretty good beginners language, as it's fairly small, so it doesn't take forever to actually know its features and it teaches you about how computers work, which other languages often tend to omit. of course it's gonna take a long time to actually get good at it, but i think if your goal is to be a good programmer, c is a good language to start with. either that or something like haskell or lisp, which i guess are more the computer science approach that'll teach you concepts and algorithms rather than how your computer works.

if you just want to write some programs, python or java aren't bad choices, but i think they're dangerous if you actually want to learn something because they have a level of abstraction that allows you to write code you don't understand.
>>
>>43075839
I guess I can see your point, and the G3258 is a sweet deal if you meet the criteria for it, and are willing to overclock it to the max. It will stomp the i3.

Otherwise i5 locked or k edition will do you fine.

- 6 x64
- 6 devel x64
- 6 minimal x64
- 7 minimal 07072014 x64

but theres an upper limit on the resolution

vga can't do more than 1080 without trouble, single link DVI can do up to 1920x1200

but assuming the resolution stays below that limit the picture quality should be the same yes?

No. 1080 over VGA is often full of noise. DVI and HDMI should look the same.

So I installed a piece of software to edit MKV's, and somehow that caused MPC to stop showing subtitles on all of my MKV's. I also noticed a bunch of my videos won't play now.

So I uninstalled that software, the subtitles are back, but the bunch of my videos that used to play fine in MPC don't play or crash still do so, so i'm thinking that either the other thing didn't uninstall all the way or something else is going on.

Any suggestions or ideas of what might be going on here? Most of the files that won't play now are blu ray rips, and they are all MPEG-4's of some kind for their video codec

You only benefit if your service has 4G or 4G LTE speeds.

Using software to implement RAID means your processor has to do all the work, instead of having a hardware controller do it for you. You greatly increase your processing needs, especially for a RAID5 array.

Most mobos from the last 5 years support hardware RAID, even microATX boards.

To change the value of a flag (ie if it's set, unset it; if it's unset, set it) use the ~ operator:

But how can the & operator flip a bit that is 0? the only thing that AND can do is unset a bit with a negative bit. But to set a bit, dont you have to use OR? if your bit is 0, it will always stay 0, regardless of whether you AND it with a 0 or 1.

Depends on the file. Some of them crashes MPC, some just freeze it till windows closes it for being unresponsive, some play the audio but have no video, some play audio with no video, but it's just random noise, etc.

I'm a ham radio operator and I want to start my own 24/7 channel, but I can't broadcast from my apartment because there's too much interference. Does anyone know if I can rent/lease an antenna? Like the ones you see ontop of mountains, and then ssh or whatever into their server/portal and broadcast from there?

I made a cube and got it to rotate with regular c++, but thought it would be practical to have the gfx card do all of the matrix matj instead. but using glrotate my cube rotates, but also moves back and forth.

sorry. but windows is for x86_64 architecture and phones all use something like ARM. there are people porting things like arch to phones, but windows is closed source so only Microsoft would be able to do that. even if you could somehow get Windows on your phone Windows is a very bloated os so it would be impossible to run.

Could anyone explain to me what this utilization limit part is in Afterburner? I'm mainly wondering if it has anything to do with why I crashed while very briefly being at 100% usage. I wanted to get it back up to that again to see if it would happen once more, but I could only get it up to 99% through stress tests and it's very stable at that. Just hoping there's nothing wrong with my new card.

Don't you mean vertical?

I installed mine on horizontal because I followed a video guide and the guy installed it like this, but I fear that the fan takes the heat from the GPU. Also I fear that installing vertical would be a pain in the ass because the heatsink might make screwing in place difficult.

Is there any way to get a lower quality version of a twitch.tv archive on my computer?
It's about 560MB per half hour to stream, and I don't have that kind of bandwidth.

Is there some service that can expose the twitch mobile applications' stream URL, so I can watch that?

The software is completely legit with 7loader though. You use a legit copy of 7 from MS's own repos and then just trick the authenticators into thinking it's an OEM copy. No cracks or anything.

But long as he's paying for it I suppose your customer can dictate how he wants his OS..

So, check who admins the page.

Or, if it's someone nearby, lure them into a long facebook conversation and use etherape in monitor mode the check which devices are hitting facebook (you can further single out akahamid addresses, since that's their CDN, and isn't hit by messages)
Or, just look at who's using a computer at the time.

Standard Doxing rules also apply.

>>
>>43085625
you're not friends with the guy right?
If there's really a severe lack of information on the profile, I suggest sending him to a site you operate and recording his IP / phishing for data.

shortners can link to .co.nr sites, and BeeF is pretty easy to run once you have backtrack operational.
>>
>>43085679
I am facebook friends with him, yes. Unfortunately I don't run any sites
>>
>>43085695
You can run it off of your own computer, just find an excuse to link with a URL shortener, and hit him with all of the exploits.
Then, you have a shell in their machine.

Alternately, use your words and ruse the sumbitch into giving up pieces of information.
>>
>>43085715
Gotta admit, I'm not a regular of /g/. I don't know what any of that is
>>
>>43085732
What OS are you running right now?

There's this linux distro called backtrack, you can use that to "script kiddie" your way into this guy's computer.
There's this application collection on it called BeeF (browser executable exploitation framework) which creates a malicious site that gives you a shell on their computer without their knowledge.

From there, you can list file contents and copy files back to your own computer, as well as find very specific location data. If they're using a secure browser, you'll have their IP address from this, and you can use another utility, called autopwn, which runs every web exploit known to man until one works and then you have a shell.

Basically, I'm suggesting you crack into this guy's computer and get the information that way.

Windows 8, and I think installing a new OS is a bit too much of a hassle. I'll just ruse him into sending another picture and hope that has the exif data I need (and by the way, what is the best way to view EXIF data?)

>I think installing a new OS is a bit too much of a hassle
backtrack runs off of an USB stick.

>I'll just ruse him into sending another picture and hope that has the exif data I need (and by the way, what is the best way to view EXIF data?
Maybe facebook is stripping it, try getting it somewhere else. (try telling him that facebook might be trying to push webp again, and it's not showing up in your browser so you need the image somewhere else)

I'm using http://regex.info/exif.cgi at the minute.
>>
>>43086000
Gee, I still wouldn't know where to start

Is there anything I can do with the exif data I do have?
>>
>>43086065
Check the data on that site, there's not much information in that image. (I think facebook recodes images anyway, unless you're downloading the original with the download button)
>>
>>43086079
