im a senior CS major right now, honestly it's kind of easy at my school. not that much coding right now. before i got accepted into the major (doing pre-reqs) it was a lot of programming which i didnt like. now its just discrete math and algorithm analysis.

im not sure if i want to actually program for a living, but i think CS is the best degree to have..IT and IS are just retarded tier

I was taking classes at night and making $90k. I knew layoffs were coming so I started interviewing. Everyone asked if I had a CS diploma. I said fuck it, I'll save up and stay here. I was laid off with severance and got unemployment. I went back to school full time and all started a small side business. I have one more year to go and I get my degree. My side business pulls in $400-$550 a week, but I'm used to making over 3 to 4 times that. At the end of next year I'll get my degree and look for work. I should be pretty set. Even if no one is biting I can work on my side business which makes me enough to buy ramen noodles.

Some factors to consider:
* Salary and benefits
* Hours worked
* Do you enjoy coming to work...or is it a lot of stress, office politics, constantly changing demands, deadlines etc.
* Are you learning at your job more than you could elsewhere?

I was making a good salary working in finance but the hours, stress and office politics were not worth it. What I never understood were my co-workers in finance who put up with all that but without a big salary.

If it's an office you enjoy working in, with nice people, where you're learning and doing interesting work, maybe you have options and the company is growing (but people are usually oversold on that hype), and your hours are reasonable - in this case, it's not worth it to go somewhere else for $5000 more a year.

I worked at one company where I was making $92000 and they had us doing real grunt work once in a while. It was fine by me, if they want to pay me $45 an hour to do tech support phone calls, I'm happy to oblige. It's one of the reasons a high salary is important - if your'e too lowball, they can afford to give you shit work. If you're being paid six figures, usually (but not always) you'll be doing decent work.
