But it will

Because cooling
>>
Why do you think mITX is quiet? You need to use 90mm fans (loud), there's little airflow (loud), and you can't use a big HSF (loud)

Aand most people aren't concerned about an extra square foot used by an ATX case and don't move their desktops often
>>
>>42957226
Not enough drive bays
No space for multiple video cards

Oh but it will. Caselabs mercury S3 has room for two double thick 240mm rads and an optional pedestal that will fit another two. Double thick rads = low speed fans = quiet as fuck.

Buy a laptop poorfag. Actually, if your desktop is that small and you have no cooling or space concerns, you could probably get by with just a laptop.

if you need that get a laptop

But my own next build probably will be a micro ITX, because htpc. I've already almost got my ideal desktop.

I have a Silverstone RVZ01 and it's fairly quiet, and in person it's actually quite reserved in terms of design, not too GAMER at least in my opinion.

My current build is Micro-ATX.

My next build will not be.

What bothers me the most is that all the cables are designed for a full ATX, and the build ends up being extremely cluttered.
>>
>>42957226
There's no point in building a mini ITX. NUC or prefab solutions will be better for low-power builds and ATX will be better for high-power builds.

I use my optical drive to make regular backups.

I'd only build one if I could guarantee that it would be silent AND capable of playing the majority of emulators such as PCSX2 and Dolphin comfortably without making a fucking sound.
Not a peep.

It would also have to be completely fanless and cute. Sadly, nothing out there currently could match my rediculous demands.

a single graphics card and a dedicated soundcard at least
various output interface expansions
better itx boards get so fucking cramped they have to put VRM's and mosfets onto a separate vertical pcb and put various connectors in weirdass positions
also keep in mind that not everyone is running a "gayming rig" that only has one shitty gpu
itx is special use and recent mainstream popularity is just a fad

On the other hand a friend needed a PC for gaming only.
I build him a mITX rig that he has had no complaints about.
I think maybe you'd fit in better on /vg/

Because my last one was and it was still the same old noisy hot ricer shit without any of the advantages of a big ass ricer box, like room for expansion and room to put your hands when routing cables.

I came to my senses finally and got a NUC. Fuck your lego toys, I'm done with that. My computer was built with the tiny, tiny hands of Chinese factory children.

I´d need a good horizontal micro case with at least 500w
Something along the size of an xbone that can hold my 660ti.

Anyone got an idea? A neat design would be cool too but not really too important.

because the fractal design define xl r2 can have 100800 square milimeters of radiator with 14 noctua nf-f12 industrials in a nice, minimalistic design
>>
Not enough drive bays, absolutely no expandability, usually bad temps.

MicroATX with a MiniTX footprint is where it's at, that's why I love my SG09B.
>>
>>42958586
Everybody who saw "micro itx" knew what he meant. No need to point it out.
>>
If I wanted a small, quiet PC I would get a Mac Mini or an NUC.
If I wanted something with a powerful CPU and a dedicated graphics, I would get a real case.
Mini-ITX is too big to be a small computer, and too small to be a normal computer. It has no niche.
>>
What's the point of a desktop if there's no room for expandability? What's the point when cooling issues limit your choices?

>Compact!

Do you live in your bedroom? Most of us have large desks we hide our boxes under.

>portable!

Are you too poor for a laptop?

>Quiet!

Does your OS have shit fan control? Do you not suspend to RAM at night?

>Inherently mature

Oh yeah, you're some kid trying to be mature and minimalist. I'll keep my giant black box.

I am gonna be working on a ship soon and I can´t go 5 months without my gaymens.

And a laptop would be too expensive so I can get a neat micro case and have that with me.
>>
>>42964604
The niche is smallest form-factor that supports full-performance CPU and GPU.
>>
>>42964743
Yeah and it's really bad at it. That's not called a niche. That's called bad design.
>>
Because I don't take my computer outside and want room for videocards and fans.

Macs have always had terrible cooling, but the old Mac Pros were ok, so they couldn't let that continue. These things will explode the instant you try to use them at their full potential like any other Mac.

>>42957343
>knows how to do it

Always remember, no matte what the marketing tells you, Apple is not magic.

>>42957290
confirmed for never building a mITX before. The thing about mITX isn't sound, cause most components nowadays are quiet as fuck. The thing you should be worrying about is heat.
>>
>>42967128
And heat causes fans to run constantly which make sound. Do you understand this?
>>
>>42967148
And your fans don't run constantly in an ATX build, sounds about right. Fucking retard.
>>
>>42967199
What the fuck are you doing that your fans run constantly in an ATX build? And why the fuck would you want to do that same thing in a mini-ITX build?
>>
>>42967211
So you don't run fans on your heatsink?

So you don't run fans on your rads?

The thing is fans, even 90mm fans are pretty much silent.
>>
>> 42967247
Fuck 90mm, I can fit a 140mm fan even in this obscenely small case:
>> 42959312

This is my current ITX LAN build.
The case itself has awful cooling and isn't space efficient, however I plan to fix this by converting it into mATX.

>r9 270x
Unbalanced as fuck.
>stock amd fan
What are you doing? I know that mini-itx doesn't cope well with aftermarket fans due to size, but why not just get a nvidia card and the reference cooler rather than having to deal with a jet engine fan?
>>
Okay, someone show me a Micro ITX build that can hold one full speed infiniband card and one double height GPU.
>>
>>42957226
But I already have an ITX box and it's my one and only desktop.
>>
Are fanless power supplies worth it if I don't game or do intensive graphic stuff?
>>
>>42957226
Why would I want to torture myself while installing my parts to a micro-itx?

If you were "inherently mature" you would actually understand what real maturity is, and that is being able to understand be ok with other people's differences.

Not like 4chan where everyone else's way is wrong.

>serial port card
Why? Your motherboard probably has that built in already. More new has the serial and parallel port headers next to the bottom pcie slot. Just need the correct ribbon cable to use it.

I am absolutely not a fan of how cramped they are. Most graphics cards won't even fit.

Bigger is better.

>>42957226

>Form factor literally designed for perfect airflow of modern components
CPU doesn't even require a fan, the whole case just needs one intake fan and one exhause fan and it runs in the 50s at most
