Today a POS asked for my card's 3 digit code. It was at a Chevron. Debit card ran as credit. ~$23. I thought the code was originally designed for online purchases? What gives?
Well it might be because cards are easy as fuck to counterfeit, so asking for the cvv adds an extra layer of security. I'd argue that if you have the card copied, you probably have the cvv too.
This really has been on the rise lately. I think it has something to do with new POS stations, as it started happening to me recently at my local stores when they upgraded their systems. Just started asking for the cvv randomly one day, and haven't stopped. Wonder of this is a form of data collection or PCI compliance.

The CVV printed on the card is supposed to be used for card not present transactions, when the card is unavailable to be physically read. The 3 digit code printed on the card is different than the code written to the magstrip/EMV chip. With cards being skimmed at gas stations easily, the CVV is a way to verify that the card is legitimate, as the physical card is nessecary for purchase. Granted, the gas stations that I go to ask for PIN verification instead, which is much more secure for debit transactions.
Speaking of cards, why the fuck don't gas stations have EMV readers installed in them yet? Skimmers aren't as prevalent, and transaction data is sent over an encrypted connection. Why we still have to swipe at gas stations while everyone else asks for chip is beyond me.
>games have physical authenticators
>doors have physical authenticators
>can be tied to your smartphone
>creditcard companies not letting this happen
>instead rely on 3 digit pincode that can be easily guessed or signature which is not even sent back to their servers for saving
why?
because they make money when someone charges a fuckton on a card and causes you greif

Question time, does /g/ use dvd drives?
>>61827154
Yes. Even have a USB one.
use within regularity? no.
wish I had one when i need one? yes.
my ps3 is the main drive i use, and that's for all of every two years when i need to play some physical disk.
last physical disk my pc saw was DOOM and that was followed by a lolwut 60 GB download.
i find in business you deal with this shit more often than expected so no, they are not dead by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a case by case basis.
I use an internal BD drive to rip various discs.
Whats the point in learning web dev if literally anyone can make their own website with godaddy, squarespace, wix etc.
I was sitting in my summer calculus class and the girl sitting next to me was making some website on her macbook air. I asked her what she was doing and she said she made this website for some charity she started, she was using godaddy. The website looked really good, like it was professionally done. She said she did it herself in a few days, she said she has no experience doing anything tech related and didn't even know what CSS was when I asked her about the spacing of her icons.
Fuck off shill
>>61827129
I hate that shit. view source: click on the css files, observe the horror.
>>61827129
Because those can't make websites worth a shit unless you just want to display static text.
I work on an e commerce site built on a platform called Magento and there's a non-stop flood of improvements and bugfixes to keep the damn thing moving forward. Keep it modern, keep it functional on whatever platform people access it through. It never ends, and a preroll site maker like what you're describing can't handle it either.
scavenged one of these core2duo from trash.
The machine still boots and I want to use it as a file server, but the hard drives should be mounted on proprietary caddies and I have don't have any.
Are there any way to securely place my hard drives inside?
I'm considering using tape and zipties but it feels too ghetto to be the best solution.
taping a bunch of HDDs together and then just zip tying them to some place in the the case where they don't interfere with cooling and what not would probably be the best option
5.25 drive bays. Like $4 on fleabay

Pretty much what LyX is
I'm making a thread because I'm totally lost on this subject, and posts on /sqt/ just fade into oblivion.
This weekend I'll be buying a 1920x1080 60hz monitor (buying a 1440p 144hz down the line), a mechanical keyboard, and a mouse. Right now I'm using an LG TV and a shitty Dell mouse/keyboard kit. It's starting to give me eye strain and pain in my knuckles so it's definitely time to switch.
My problem is that I have no idea what product I'd like to get, and I don't want to have to buy-replace-buy-replace til I find something suitable, so here are my requirements
>Monitor
Something reliable and with good colors. I found someone selling a Dell S2340L for $110 that I'm likely going to buy
>Keyboard
I've heard Cherry MX browns are good for a first mechanical keyboard. I'd like backlighting but I'm not sure if I should go for full RGB or just something subtle like white or blue. I don't want it to be overwhelming, but i do like that aesthetic.
>Mouse
I've been looking at Logitech's MMO mouse because it looks useful for games and large enough to fit my hands, but it seems impossible to find a site that shows dimensions of mice.
Thanks in advance to anyone.

you're just an asshole anyways. no one wants your opinion

Dell 24" ultrasharp
Any coolermaster mech keyboard
Logitech g403
But who cares what I think right
Be honest /g/, how many of you have or kind of want one?
>>61826850
Its an underpowered piece of shit. I will never buy that
>>61826855
I don't think anyone intends on doing serious work using one of these, to be fair. But as a shitposting/ricing device it should work.
>>61826850
It'd be sweet for shitposting, the college I go to has TV's all over the place
I have a fairly large collection (~8TB) of JAV and assorted pornography that I would like to organize and catalog for easier indentification. Would a RDBMS be the best solution for this? If so, what software? PostgreSQL?
>>61826760
Don't you have better things to be doing with your time than sorting your goddamn porn?
jesus christ
>>61826760
how is it currently organized? by actress?
No matter what I do, I can't deal with fucking resizing.
>>61826759
Leave html blank
>>61826759
If resizing breaks stuff, you're probably doing formatting terribly wrong. Keep things simple. Don't set things' widths and heights all the time. Let everything breathe.

Post your page.

Is slot the best screwhead?
>>61826723
No all screws suck by default because of mechanical wear and tear.
I don't think I've ever stripped a torx head. Are you trying to use the wrong size?

Can you read?

Is this Coffe-lake or Cannonlake? If the former, who cares?
>>61826668
Possible outcomes for Coffee Lake:
1. It's overpriced
2. It's underperforming
3. It's a housefire
4. Some combination of the above

I need help. I'm graduating this fall and I just got a job at a research center for a large firm but working as a data labeller. I want to make the jump from labelling the data to actually working with machine learning. Help me. I'm a newbie to everything b/c i'm a math whiz, not a comp sci nerd. I run Ubuntu w/ i3 btw. I'm a kool kid I swear.
