It's not "good" but it's a slight improvement over Chrome and Firefox became pretty much unusable for me.
Why do people hate it? Is it bloated or is there some botnet I'm not aware of?

Recaptcha is Google's way of telling people that if you don't do Google's dirty work for free, they aren't letting you say what you have to say.
4chan is obviously a website where freedom of speech is held in the highest regard, and as such shouldn't support such an abominable notion. They are indirectly helping Google censor the internet.
