For the vast majority of consumers why shouldn't they use windows 10?
>reliable
>compatible with basically everything
>doesn't require tinkering
>direct X 12 offering gaming support
I mean for your average consumer who does office tasks/gaming W10 is perfectly fine
They shouldn't because of its dishonest practices.
People seem to settle with unacceptable shit just because it's more comfortable.

The better question is why wouldn't the majority of consumers use GNU and ChromeOS.

Stop shilling.
Why aren't you using Windows Server 2012 R2 as your desktop OS, /g/?
>server tier performance
>no bloatware
>no botnet (no cortana)
>no updatewall (update at your discretion)
>desktop is default interface
>boots way faster than any other windows
>stability that makes Linux users question their faith
>gaming ability exactly the same as other Windows distros
>can add IIS and have a decent web server with a couple of mouse clicks
>can add Active Directory or convert to a DNS or DHCP server for fun
>supports up to 4 TB of internal memory
>up to 64 10-core processors = 640 cores
>>61963430
>Windows distros
Could you be any more obvious?
Is it really botnet free?
>server tier performance
Nice buzzwords, retard.
>>61963620
Disconnect from the internet you retarded idiot.
What did he mean by this?
He's dead
He's probably rolling over in his grave.
Don't get me wrong, I for one think Jobs is a massive dipshit, but he definitely would not have gone this far.
>>61963287
if they are trying to phase out ports and peripherals, what are they phasing in?
which distro does /g/ recommend and why? I'm thinking of becoming a penguinfag because wangblows pisses me off
gentoo or void
openbsd
Portage package manager is the only way
what language is easiest to do accurate inelastic 3D material dynamics with? im tired of fixed geometries and want to simulate the atomic structure of a material. i figured that wouldn't be too computationally expensive...right?
probably english
>>61963045
Most of the weight is on the way you implement something.
A really good programmer using qbasic can completely obliterate a shitty one using asm.
>simulate the atomic structure of a material
what are you trying to make? virtual semen?

I've been using Linux for the past 5 years. I recently installed Windows 10 on a partition for gaming and some scanner bullshit I couldn't get to work in linux. Holy shit everything takes 10x longer to do just because of loading times alone. And there's goddamn adverts for Minecraft in my start menu. And holy fuck updating is a 30 minute affair. How can anyone stand this garbage? Why does Windows suck so hard?

tfw you've been able to play any windows game on your linux laptop since 2014 but you just haven't known about it

maybe if you're super casual about it. the delay is definitely gonna fuck you up for games where you'd need responsive controls
>>61962143
the delay would be less than even the highest speed server multiplayer game
Are we going to have to start paying for Youtube?
No. It's difficult to deliver ads if you're forced to pay.

Wew

>promptly uninstall gentoo
why do i keep doing this?
Al right /g/ I have about 600 bucks to spend on comfy tech. What to buy? I already own a ThinkPad. I'm considering the GPD pocket but because Linux support is apparently terrible I'm open for other ideas.
>>61961745
Buy another ThinkPad.

Hey /g/ looking for a good business class laptop that ISN'T a lenovo think pad model. I refuse to give new IBM money. In short I can pay max $800 and I am a network admin so an RJ-45 port is a must have. What are your thoughts? It has to look good to my clients, so those dumb faggots keep paying me money for trivial work because
>oh look shiny he must be really good at his job. Computers are really hard.
>new IBM
Lenovo is chinks and always have been
>>61961271
That's what I'm saying anon I dont trust their shit,
>>61961282
If it's a specific 'I don't trust a Chinese company' kind of thing, remember where everybody's shit is made.
If you don't think the current build quality on the T series is up to snuff or something though, then fair enough. They went to shit with the xx30 generation, got even worse with the xx40 and have only just clawed their way back up to being worthwhile laptops.
