Why haven't you installed gentoo yet?

how could i install gentoo without first having gentoo? it would be proof that other systems can be useful in that they can install gentoo and as such i must not use them for that purpose so i must have gentoo to install gentoo but i need it installed first before i install it

I unironically considered it but I'm afraid of overly long compile times.

initiation: don't see why this subject wont fit here since this place is matrix all over it.

how do you feel about that the history you've read so far is just not real. that it is a mock-up to fuck with your head? say the world was made 20 years ago and your memories are synthesized so well that one can't tell any difference between reality and falsehood-ness.

tell me now about the carbon-14 dating technique and tell me how the system can't fake that too and also tell me how much you really hope for me being wrong and tell me how much you really want to stress the c14 tech since its so fucking flawless that you just want to vomit on my face and fuck my mouth.

hell if i was the system then i sure would make it possible to fake a 1ms old sample to be 6666 quadrillion years old if i had to.

criticism highly appreciated/needed
thank you

Hye, /g/ -
is it at all possible within linux (i'm using elementary OS for whatever reason it's just pretty small when doing a LIVE OS configuration since my hdd is busted) to set a wireless NIC's MAC address to something from this database?
https://standards.ieee.org/develop/regauth/grpmac/public.html

for example 01-80-C2-00-00-00
And yea I know macchanger won't accept a hyphen format so you change it to 01:80:C2:00:00:00 ... because apparently theyre multicast addresses it returns an error but there must be some way to force it, no?

Yes

>for example 01-80-C2-00-00-00
Yes.

sudo ifconfig eth0 hw ether 01:80:c2:00:00:00
>>
I'm pretty familiar with ifconfig but I guess not well enough.. I'm trying it on a device named mon0 which is in iwconfig mode monitor of course..
ifconfig mon0 ether 01:80:c2:00:00:00
I get errors.. I did ifconfig mon0 down first as usually to change a MAC you must bring down the device.. hm
>>
root@elementary:~# ifconfig mon0 down && macchanger -m 01:85:C2:00:00:00 mon0 && ifconfig mon0 up
Current MAC: c0:3f:0e:3a:7e:b8 (NETGEAR)
Permanent MAC: c0:3f:0e:3a:7e:b8 (NETGEAR)
[ERROR] Could not change MAC: interface up or insufficient permissions: Cannot assign requested address
root@elementary:~# Not even the one I want, but shows how it won't assign such a MAC to a wireless NIC at least via macchanger.. I've also tried one other command method and gotten the same message. So the restrictions are put there on purpose it seems.

Dear /g/.

I dont know if Im just being paranoid or something but can Facebook and similar services actually create some sort of user/browser profile for somebody even if said person dont have account?

I mean, a lot of sites have some Facebook related scripts and I can notice Ublock and similar plugins blocking Facebook calls when I browse internet. If someody else would let all those connections runs freely, they would get information about what sites he/she visit and easily build profile out of that data.

Or Im just being too paranoid?

>>
Most sites have some sort of Facebook integration these days which is probably what those calls are, I imagine they probably do use data collected from it for other purposes though.

Absofuckinglutely they can, and do. Want to verify it? Go create an account for Facebook using your real name. As soon as you get it set up, it'll start suggesting "friends" that are your actual friends and acquaintances.

Also, if friends on facebook try to tag you in photos but you don't have an account, facebook keeps track of that and logs that they know you. You really can't escape it.

That has nothing to do with Facebook tracking you through websites but your friends uploading their address books to Facebook and Whatsapp.

Well, no. Both architectures are so wildly different that those problems simply cannot have common ground.

Should I learn Hadoop, or is big data just another passing businesscuck meme?
3 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Why learn something that works when you can find a job easier using Microsoft Power BI? You too can product graphs from different sources and run basic queries such as "all the things I have", "all the things I have limited by one keyword" and even "all the things I have limited by the start of one keyword". This edition all comes with a manual that includes 50 ways to say that dirty data is hard to deal with and that is why I can't do my job. But wait there is more! You tired of information that doesn't have your company theming? Of course you are since the results don't matter. Power BI specializes in colors and has some many features your company's employees can spend many productive hours arguing over spacing of labels and should final products have more than 5 colors since the company logo counts as 2. We aren't done yet, power BI demands managements attention and can do so easily by auto-scaling. We beat our competitors (or teach you how to) by producting results that show two results are really far apart or really the same thing depending on your argument.

Are you worried that you are unqualified to enter the world of big data? Worry no longer since Microsoft Power BI has the shortest learning curve of all products. Look around everything saying that anyone with no knowledge or talent can produce realiable and insightful business decision drivers almost instantly. Make sure you don't worry about doing it wrong because you can always look back to your manual including 50 ways that say dirty data is hard. Nobody made a bad decision, the data was just bad.

I tried working with hadoop. Even though it gives job security, it is not worth the grey hair you will likely develop prematurely.

I have after several difficulties managed to install ubuntu on my dell windows 10 laptop. I opted to give it 100gb of the 900gb of space windows 10 was allocated, in the hope to keep the two installations side by side, but now windows 10 won't start, and sys recovery says it is impossible to fix the windows installation. Moreover the windows partition is not recognised by ubuntu, and read by the partition manager as free space. I would like to retrieve some of the data that was on it, how do I do that?

You restore from backups.
>>
>>61814317
>how do I do that?
Give it to a professional, you clearly have not enough clues about a computer to do that.

I would honestly suggest to you that you do not try to attempt anything yourself, you can only make it worse at this point.
