ITT: post open source vidya
Bonus points if it's not one of the usual suspects
I found this one recently. It's a first-person roguelike. It's pretty fun - hard though.

Notch's old Ludum Dare submission for a raycasted dungeon puzzle game is okay.

I found this pretty helpful because having struggled with learning about how games are written (particularly in terms of how the abstractions relate to the program flow) this made a lot more sense than other game code I've read.
Handmade Hero is interesting.
The game itself doesn't look particularly good (though it's nowhere near finished), but the developer has extensively documented the development process by only coding while on video.

So far he seems to write it mostly in C with a little C++ mixed in. Definitely doesn't use templates though (I remember him writing a long blog post about how much he hates templates).
I'll get the big ones out of the way.
Wolf3d, Doom 1, 2, 3 (>tfw d44m isn't GPL), Quake 1, 2, 3.
For 1080p should I get a 144Hz monitor or a 1080p Freesync 75Hz monitor?im tired of using a TV

Bump
1080p 144hz all the way
>>58640645
what gpu?
WHEN is someone going to invent better batteries, I can't believe what everyone has to put up with right now
you should only have to charge your phone and your laptop once a week
I'm currently working on a way to store human souls inside crystal to be used as an energy source.
>>58640634
Why don't you, retard?
Why? 2-3 days of use from phones available for $100-150 not enough for you?
is linux the biggest piece of shit ever made?
>be me

>everything is fucked
why do people use this """operating system"""?
its a kernel you dip. And its powering most web/supercomputer infalstructure
>be me
Stay on Windows.
>>58640605
it's an operating system according to tannenbaums modern operating systems
Hey, got a quick question.
I'm trying to play old games from my laptop on my CRT. The catch: My CRT only has RCA + S Video, while my laptop can only output HDMI
Is there anyway to connect the two?
Yes, but you'll need to purchase a signal converter such as this:
https://www.amazon.com/Tendak-Composite-Converter-Adapter-Supporting/dp/B00KBQZC4M
>>58640573
Yea. Stick the cable up your ass. Should work from there bud.
Just get a fucking adapter. Why do retards ask such dumb questions.
You DO realize that mpv has the same issue as VLC, right?
If you were meme'd into using mpv over MPC-HC, then you're a tard. If you're on shitnux or macOS though that's understandable. Pic related. mpv is literally a meme player

>he thinks linux is a consumer OS
>>58640486
It doesn't deserve to be even a developer OS. The only real use it can do and someone honest can say with a straight face that is better, is purely server use, i.e. no direct use, use it as a server and leave it alone. There is literally no developer, designer or consumer use than can be done better on it.
>>58640486
There's plenty of distros that are directed at consumers. Whether or not they're good is another matter tho.
>consumer instead of user
Don't be a commie but don't deepthroat corporate cock either.

I love the Pearson monopoly. Can we just get a non Jewish alternative?
Make something yourself
>>58640455
It's part of the college scam, though this semester I have a pretty based professor teaching from his head and didn't require us to buy a book because he says his lectures will be enough. Though it means I can't skip class much without risking falling behind
>Do CS papers at university
>Some of them require additional software (e.g. something to simulate Turing machines)
>Written by someone at the university
>Open source
>Works cross platform
Too bad they were written in Java and used the shitty Java GUI, but that's a small price to pay.
Hey /g/ do you think $400 is a good deal on a Nvidia EVGA GTX 1080 SC?
Roomate got two because of work and offered to sell me the spare for $400. It is new and under warranty for however long EVGA does warranties
So is that a good deal or do you think there will be worthwhile price drops in the future when vega finally comes around in like half a year?
>>58640403
wait for vega i have seen the FTW at almost $400 so it will not be long before it and even hybrids are that low.
>>58640403
>buying anything nvidia with gsync premiums and driver crashing with dx12
Sure kid.
>>58640403
$400 is a pretty good price. You won't find any 1080 8gb for under $580 right now. They will come down with the next gen on cards but you can say that about every single other card out there. If you have the cash go for it.

You guys know that Netflix still had to pay out the ass for access to Comcast and Verizon networks, right?
The FCC put up a fuss about it but they don't have any actual authority so couldn't punish anybody. This isn't going to change anything.
Why does no one go about developing a full-featured UNIX OS?
I don't understand. There's Windows, which is fucked. There's Mac, which IS full-featured and "unix", but not 'UNIX'. It fails to be compatible like real UNIX should be.
And then there's 9001 different versions of Linux, none of which are actually that popular for regular users.
And for some reason, that Communist GPL seems to get a ton of people working on it as opposed to some company going about releasing a commercial UNIX OS for home use.
What even is this?
I mean, I would like to, but it won't happen for at least a FEW years, if everything goes well...
But, where the fuck is the UNIX that we all need? The full-blown competitor OS that follows a Code of Ethics, that conforms to standards, and that pushes computer use in the right direction?
WHERE THE HELL IS MY $50 "[something] OS", FULL UNIX 4 COMPLIANCE, WITH ALL THE APPLICATIONS I KNOW AND LOVE!?
I'd switch in a fucking heartbeat, but where IS it!?
>>58640376
>2016
>using deprecated UNIX
plan9 exists
>>58640376
What applications?
>>58640431
UNIX doesn't HAVE to be deprecated...
Someone just needs to bring it up to standards. Linux is basically UNIX, but with Communism and some other stupid crap.
Why can't we just go and take REGULAR UNIX and do the same thing, but without the Communism?
Make something that you see in stores... something that comes out as like 5 years in, 20% market share.
One OS that brings it all together the way it was supposed to be!
Have AVAYA S8500C
Got from friend
Trying to load Ubuntu on it, but it refuses to load from anything other than the red hat on the hard drive, even if you set it to load from removable memory first like I'm doing
If you take out the HD it refuses to boot
?????
How do I install new OS
>>58640315
You have to unlock it in the BIOS first.
>>58640329
>>58640329
this, but if all else fails, it's linux so you can take out the drive put it in your other puter, and install linux then put it back in the server and it'll boot without issue
>>58640329
>>58640356
Do you have any idea how to unlock BIOs? A bit new to this.
Even if I specify that we need to boot from a different source it demands to boot from the HD
Thanks for the help
What the fuck, you fucking idiots. Please listen to me now. You can't listen to these faggots usually, when they shill the hell out of mpv, because they lack the determination needed to make you realize the truth. But let me tell you something ***NOW***.
This is especially for people who use VLC for video playback.
PLEASE switch to mpv. Just read SOME of the documentation (hotkeys and command line options or something), you don't have to learn the whole thing. But it's so much better when you actually do that you'll feel ashamed for ever using VLC.
mpv is better.
>>58640233
I got dubs, too, and I apologize for not putting "mpv" in the subject or something.
>>58640233
there is no difference between vlc and mpv except that vlc has more features, is more stable and _has_ an ui
i think i will post these pictures in every video player thead from now on.
So /g/, in the past 6 years I've been able to delete every virus I've gotten, but this one will not go away. It makes Google Chrome open with random ads, and it periodically makes folders in my C:>ProgramData with jumbled letters and numbers, containing a single exe in each folder, with the same randomized name. I've ran MalwareBytes, Ad-Aware, Rkill, HitmanPro, and Zemana Anti-Malware. No luck with any of those.
>inb4 /g/ isn't your tech support
I've never asked for help on here but this issue is really bugging me.
