I'm thinking about switching from Windows 7 to Ubuntu 16.04.

What should I expect? How do you optimize drivers on Loonix?
11 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
just make a partition for it so you can have both. 16.04 LTS should come with most stuff you'll need already

>What should I expect?
That it is an entirely different ecosystem. Have an open mind and explore the possibilities.

The most common pitfall of trying Linux is trying to use it like windows.

No, because unlike utilities, you can actually comfortably live without Facebook and Twitter, and the are other mediums of communication.

Build a desktop PC for gaming and get a cheap laptop for your mobile needs.

Most products focused on gamers are overpriced. (e.g. black and red colour scheme, rgb leds)

Is arch linux the new "install gentoo"? How can someone possibly be such a sperg to believe we even need ever a distribution like that? I hope they are memesters.

This isn't the time for half-arsed jobs. Nobody is going to need to install each linux system manually. It's not EducateMeOnHowToMaintainanOS OS, it's an OS.

Holy fuck, they keep making the install simpler and simpler and yet people still complain.

Arch is designed to be easy for the devs to maintain, not to be easy to install. Their whole thing is to do the least amount of work possible for the best distro possible. Install Antergos, it's basically Arch that some other devs decided to make user friendly which works out really well because they don't have to worry about all the heavy lifting with maintaining the base system.

I was recording an mp4 video with obs when my power went out, it won't open with: mpv, vlc, handbrake, etc. Is there any software I can use to recover the video? It is saved as it's recording, about 2gb file, lot's of video data.

What happened to the original file you were using to reencode?
What file system?
What OS?
Can you still see the original file? If so what size is it?
>>
>>58680121
Record another video with the same settings. Then using a hex editor, copy the header over the corrupted video. Probably won't work due to the codec compression but it's worth a try. I've done it with success with uncompressed TIFF files before.
>>
>>58680173
I wasn't converting a video, I was recording a video so there is no original file. The power went out, but more or less all the data recorded up until that point is saved in an mp4 file, but since it was not officially finished by the program the mp4 will not play. All of the data should still be saved though up until my power went out.
