Distraction can cause hours of delayed time to what you were doing, along with not fully retaining what it is that you were doing if you were being simultaneously distracted.
We're being over-stimulated, which is in turn reducing our attention span & focus. I believe it'll get worse as years go on. Imagine a hundred different people giving you the urge to get you to watch this, read this, talk to this person, play this, etc. that's what's happening to our brains at times:
>You Now Have a Shorter Attention Span Than a Goldfish:
http://time.com/3858309/attention-spans-goldfish/
here's a video that brilliantly describes what I'm talking about:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKaWJ72x1rI
Indeed, go back to even the early 2000s - pre web 2.0 with broadband internet/faster processors/4G & smart phones - Life was just slow enough be less distracted with this & that, & in turn made it easier to stay focused on whatever it was you were doing - even if it was just downloading music or playing video games - you were still doing so without 15 different tabs, apps, & text messages open.
To combat being scatterbrained, I propose some of the following:
+ We split our internet into strict separated portions throughout the day. That's not to say that you'll have a tight schedule - you can switch what you do at different times throughout the week - but they HAVE to be split apart from each other at different times of the day.
+ Leaving your phone in your room with the notification volume up, or perhaps away from your sight while you're in that room would help, too. Not doing other things on the computer/tablet while watching entertainment & videos will also be a must.
+ 100% avoid being on the phone when being with someone unless you know that it'll add to the conversation. Leaving the phone at the very least in your pocket while being with someone is another must.

PLEASE, feel free to add to this. But a movement on this does need to happen to help shift society to become more authentic & genuine with real dedication with what they're doing with their lives

I just spend all day fapping, usually.
took me literally a full weekend to set up vagrant homestead thanks to distractions and procrastination
>you will never use 8gb or more of ram
>even 4gb is enough
Wow someone else who plays planetary annihilation. To bad the community for the game died and the game play wasn't that deep. But it was a good effort.
>>58713684
Maybe if you didn't play a shitty, unoptimized game on a shit "OS" you wouldn't have a problem with only 8GB.
>>58713765
>he likes swapping to disk when he gets close to his 8gb limit
>he thinks windows is intelligent with its pagefile where windows even swaps with 32gb of ram because of "intelligence"
>worse, he uses a mac which is atrocious at memory usage. enjoy your $200 16gb soldered upgrade kits :^)
Why doesn't anyone talk of this?
The main reason apple removed the headphone jack wasn't to sell their beats headphones.
No. It was because people used to listen to snowden and opened their phones and disconnected the microphone and camera, and used a wired earpiece when they wanted to make calls.
It's the same reason phones don't come with removable batteries anymore. They don't want you to have easy access to disconnect anything.
I'm amazed people follow apple when they are a known cia/nsa honeypot.
Outside of /g/ there is a tiny percantage of humans that care about their privacy.
I'm not saying they are in the right and let goverment intrude, but know that most people dont care

Literally who?
Give me one good reason not to replace my gaming desktop with a quad core elitebook 8460p and eGPU setup.
>can take laptop out with me
>come home, plug it into gpu and play vidia
>>58713637
Mobile quad-core is still shit compared to desktop.
>>58713637
Shit screen res, trackpoint is terrible, the left/right buttons will 'stick' to the bottom on the touchpad, won't latch shut after a year, all batteries are shit, and BIOS is terrible (you can literally see your mouse move frame by frame on the bios -- 15fps refresh rate.)
>>58713637
if it werks, don't fix it. you're jus tflushing your money down the toilet if you do. btw, she blacked bro.
Let's talk about YouTube and how shitty it has become.
>failed at copying Twtich
>failed at copying Netfix
>Youtube live is a mess, random streams everywhere and they don't even have a proper page for it
>even porn sites are miles ahead in video players, previews, quality and search accuracy
>even porn sites are miles ahead in search accuracy
it will never be even close to truth
I agree with the rest though
>>58713623
>even porn sites
porn always adapts video technology first and industries follow it.

the latest update looks like absolute garbage. it's so basic and simple, who in their right minds thinks that looks good?
>Windows 8.1
>Start8
>Can CHOOSE which updates I install
>No Cortana using 85MB of RAM
>No telemetry
>No botnet
>No automatic driver updates
>SSD is fully optimized on 8.1 unlike 7
>Memory is better optimized on 8.1 than 7 as well
>Motherboard drivers actually supported
>All the speed and aesthetics of Windows 10
>All the stability and desktop friendliness of Windows 7
Why aren't you using Windows 8.1 with Start8 /g/?
>>58713528
because my main pc is for gayming
I use an amd r9 390 and hitman works quite nicely on dx12
The last uTorrentfag
Because I like Linux (the kernel) too much.
Welp, I just saw the phrase "10 tera floating point operations per second" used referring to something that actually exists

What are some technology brands you favor or are loyal to?
For me it's mostly gigabyte. Got an i7 870 that's been clocked at 4.3ghz for the last 4 years on a gigabyte motherboard (p55a-ud3r-usb3) with zero issues yet and a gigabyte gtx 670 that's still working great.
I've been using gigabyte products for several generations of computers and I've never had one fail on me yet.
I also like HP laptops. Pretty good Linux support usually and they can be very budget friendly. Also great aesthetics.
>>58713457
Dumb luck I guess. I've had a gigabyte mobo and 2 gigabyte gfx cards die on me (pre-2012.)
Seagate is pretty bad too -- unless you buy their commercial storage stuff.
Loyal to:
CoolerMaster
ASUS
AMD
Mushkin SSDs (may change now that Samsung lowered their prices.)
superlux
>>58713604
Yeah, not saying they're perfect. But I've been really lucky with gigabyte products so I'm just sticking to them until this luck runs out.
Still got a Pentium 3 motherboard in my garage that works and it's a gigabyte.

As the water in your body freezes, it expands and rips apart every cell in your body. On top of that the body constantly loses mass while frozen. You are dead period, and this is not preserving your body in any way that would allow it to be brought back.

Seriously, can someone explain the benefits of this book over just learning through building small projects? Will this bridge some important theoretical concepts that I won't get from googling shit everytime I'm stuck? It's pretty long and I'm trying to justify committing time to it.

Fuck off faggot, I'm trying to better myself. I'm in third year accounting and it's fucking busy.
So I'm torn between this meme machine and the oneplus 3t, but I know very little about phones. My trusty s4 has lasted me 4 years before it just broke and I need a replacement. Anyone have any recommendations? Other phone suggestions are fine too.
>>58712991
I have the op3t and love it. I haven't had any issues that weren't my own fault. The battery life is amazing. Cameras a bit meh, it it could definitely be worse.
>made in korea
that's all the reason you need
>>58712991
is the screen really that nice? I fucking hate that there are really good phones out there with even better innards and software and yet they have shit screens.
What programming websites do you follow /g/?
