Why do inteliggent people prefer windows
somebody give me a quick rundown on these guys
>>58740689
Because computer illiterate people use windows and it's the current norm.
Meanwhile *nix wizards like Linus, brilliant programmers like Terry all use Linux or *nix.
Q: What OS do computer illetaretes use?
A: Windows
Q: Have you ever seen a computer illiterate use Linux or FreeBSD in their desktop?
A: No
So simple
>>58740689

Unfortunately Microsoft does not care about windows 7 in a good way and new CPUs will not work properly.
>>58740843
Well, from my experience Intel's Skylake and KabyLake CPUs work perfectly with 7, so..
This board seems to constantly be populated with NEETS asking for tips on how to get IT-related jobs. I therefore propose a thread where we can help each other out with these things.
Also, in a previous certification thread, I mentioned that I had a job interview today, and a fellow anon said I should come back and say how it went. I will do that, but please, anyone else who wants to discuss IT employment, please do so. So this thread is for
>NEETs who want advice on upcoming IT job interviews
>NEETs who want to know what they should learn
>Certification discussion
>Any /g/entoomen who actually get to hire staff, pls provide advice
>Any /g/entoomen who hire staff and want to know what autistic unemployable degenerates think about their interview styles
I'm a CS dropout and right now I'm just trying to make some shit to put on my github.
What are employers looking for whenever they look at my page?
>>58740443
Got an interview coming up for a junior web dev job. Was told it's going to be 30 minutes long so I don't know if it's going to be a culture fit type of interview or what.
But there probably will be some technical questions. What the hell should I study so I don't fuck this up? I need this job otherwise I'll be stuck taking a shitty tech support job again, I just don't want to deal with those people anymore.
So, to get the ball rolling...
>Job interview was for pic related
>I know what almost everything in that list is, but my experience of it is limited
>I have a CompTIA A+ and a few months of experience in a similar job
>Charmed the fuck out of the two interviewers, although I have missed out on jobs in the past because apparently I am terrifyingly full-on in person and just scream friendly jovial answers to every question until the interviewer just wants to go home
>They gave me a brief multiple-choice test to ensure I knew my shit (don't worry, current NEETs; most questions were like, "What do the letters LAMP stand for?" and, "What command deletes a file in Linux?")
>I did not lie (much); if they asked about something I knew nothing about I would say so (fucking web hosting)
>Also asked basic friendly questions about what sort of films and TV I like
>I even pushed my luck and said I liked anime; they responded with stony silence
>I even told them about OP pic related because it's fantastic; I doubt they are watching it now though
>All in all, very informal and enjoyable; no idea if they're desperate to hire me or if they are just nice people
Employers: if a guy is really loud and outgoing and friendly and cheerful, for a job which involves answering phones all day, that's a good thing, right? Right? Because that's how I am and it's unacceptable if people like me get screwed out of those jobs as well as all the autists who don't want to speak to anyone.

>About Vim
Vim is a highly configurable text editor built to make creating and changing any kind of text very efficient. It is included as "vi" with most UNIX systems and with Apple OS X.
>Why Vim
Vim is rock stable and is continuously being developed to become even better. Among its features are:
#persistent, multi-level undo tree
#extensive plugin system
#support for hundreds of programming #languages and file formats
#powerful search and replace
#integrates with many tools.
>I want to use Vim but I don't know the keybindings/Nano is easier
#Learning them is easy and you only actually need a select few: navigation, search, b, i, w, :line, v and a few more
#Install Vim and get started with the built in vim tutor: vimtutor - very easy 7 lessons, takes you 30 minutes and you are there.
>I want to use mouse and click
While you can certainly do them in Vim, you will become too lazy to take your hand off the keyboard once you get comfortable with Vim.
>Vim is just a text editor
True, but you can scale Vim to be the IDE you want it to be: C/C++, Java, C#, Python, Haskell, Javascript - anything you like.
Neovim users and potential new users are also welcome.
anyone working on any neat plugins? I'm working on one that lists your program variables and function heads in a side pane

Thank you for using a good porgramming language image.
Hey anon,
should i learn go or elixir? Always jumped around between different languages. But this summer i want to take a book and dive into language to REALLY learn it.
Rust seems to unfinished and its future seems unstable. Also no great books till now.
C/C++/C#: Probably overkill for me, since i dont really need low-level programming for my kind of tasks.
JVM-based: Already got into Clojure (wrote some small things in Lisp before) and it was nice. But i kinda want more.
Till now? Did Rust get a new book?
>>58739482
Not that i know. I simply dont want to learn a language again without a proper guide. I already wrote some things one or two years ago in go with the gopl book. But with my missing programmer-background i simply didnt get some concepts and wrote clunky code. Also i got anoyed by the GOPATH. If i would choose go again, i would go with another book with more exercises etc.

My on board audio is fucked three ways till sunday. recommend a good sound card that also I can also connect my front panel too.
Also general audiophile thread.
>>58736870
pcie soundcards are a placebo. just another way to squeeze dimes out of poor tech-masturbating losers.
>>58736886
Normally I'd agree but I think I'm either getting crazy from somewhere interference or my onbaord audio is craping out. Sound card seems like an easy fix only reason I'm looking into one.
>>58737057
Getting crazy interface*
I only get constant static as soon as Windows boots and no other audio. Already tried reinstalling the drivers, disabling other devices, tweaking the bios, etc etc. The sound only stops when Realtek is disabled and starts again even when reinstalled or when generic windows audio drivers are used.

I have an optical drive that I want to hook up to my computer. I have a mini ITX so no room for one. I bought a USB to SATA cable so that I could use it externally. I plugged it all in and it doesn't work. When it's plugged in and before I push the open tray button it is recognized as a disk drive in device manager. I push the button and device manager says it is an "Unknown USB Device (Set Address Failed)" What do? Can I use the USB to SATA cable or an I gonna have to do something else.
>>58736733
who the fuck uses dvds anymore?
you took chance it did not work, dunno why
buy external dvd rom or just hook it up temporary when sidepanel is down and dvd rom is supported by some box or some shit to be connected..
do the shit you need and off it goes
