Encryption banned when?
>>58810506
Soon. Only those against it are cucks and have something to hide. You have no need for encryption unless you're a terrorist or pedo.
>>58810564
or if you don't want all of your information falling into criminal hands.
>ban encryption
>credit card information no longer allowed to be encrypted

encryption is a good thing.

What percentage of /g/ actually uses Gentoo?
What is the rough installation time of Gentoo for /g/ users?
>>58810488
No one actually used gentoo. No one wants to use a distro that is even more of a timesink than arch. It's just a meme to get rid of the kids who come here for tech support questions.
>>58810507
It's a bit of work to set up but maintenance is leagues easier than Arch. Stability is better and if you have any demands that warrant using anything other than Debian it's probably what you want.
>>58810488
Doubt it's very high. The most popular Linux distro used here is almost certainly Android.

I don't know about other distros but ubuntu always had patches to make font rendering look pretty good. Also:

Reminder that unironically believing proprietary software is unethical is being a literal commie.
Communists are the ones who believe property is theft. Proprietary software is perfectly okay and doesn't rob you of any freedoms.
>>58802958
There's nothing wrong with voluntarily giving up your freedom, but denying that you are giving up freedom is absurd.
>>58803064
I've been using proprietary software since I was born and still do. I feel free as ever.
>>58802958
But the proprietary software devs beileve that their software is their property.

>Google Drive
A USB drive. Or, if you use the offline features of Google Drive to sync between computers, Syncthing works perfectly, if not better.
>AutoCAD
LibreCAD or even Blender can be used as a cad in a pinch. All depends on what you're doing. There are actually a lot of free CADs out there, but since I've never gotten deep into them I can't vouch.

Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).
----
If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™
Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", ultraportable
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

Hey guys, I was told you are the experts. Looking for something around €300 for uni work, and the GPU has to be capable of Dota 2. Should not exceed 15.6".
Best I found so far are T4xx or similar with Quadro NVS5400m, but I think that might be a bit slow for Dota. Are there cheap/good models with faster cards?
Or, if there are not, does someone here have this GPU and can confirm if and how well Dota 2 runs? I can't use older benchmarks because the engine changed a lot.

Should I use a 24 inch PLS panel as a TV next to my bed? (With a Dedicated 2.1 soundsystem)
I was thinking about buying a 34 inch Ultrawide and put it that next to my bed, but sadly the 1440p is very expensive, and I know at 34 the PPI is not the greatest at 1080.
