What do you do with your chromebooks? I use mine mainly for uni stuff/facebook/youtube etc, but I'm looking for other things to do on it. Any cool android apps for chromebooks you're using? Anything else to do with it?
Any reason to go Chromebook over thinkpad X2xx aside from aesthetics?
>>58876343
depends on what you want to do with it. If you want to install non-android (or non-linux if you install crouton on the chromebook) programs, go with the thinkpad. If you're okay with just using android/web apps, chromebook is fine because it's pretty fast, takes just a few seconds to start
recently bought the 2013 pixel. can't wait to shitpost on it
What is the best and safest way for me to pirate stuff?
So far I've just been torrenting with Peerblock and deleting the list files (forcing a re-download) every time it asks me to subscribe. This actually seems to be working well; nothing I've downloaded using it so far has incurred a copyright notice, and some of those torrents were movies with thousands of seeds. I suppose it could be just luck, though.
A VPN seems to be an obvious choice. The problem with VPNs is that I don't want my network to be blocked from using sites like Netflix. Is it possible to have only one computer on the network connected to the VPN? I guess it would be a good option then.
A few years ago, I remember reading about sites where you can rent space and upload torrent links. The site downloads those torrents to your rented space, then you can download the files to your PC. I thought they were called torrent lockers, but I can't find anything about them.
Then there's Usenet. A friend of mine swears by it, but everyone else seems to think it's very prone to DMCA takedowns and that it's possible for monitoring companies to see which files you are downloading.

are you really stupid
you can just switch off the vpn when you don't want to use it
like you just revert back to your regular network when the vpn is off
what the fuck
did i take the bait

I've never used a VPN before, so no.
Why do key caps cost $140? Is it because it's designed by a girl?
they're designed FOR girls
Because economies of scale.
Plastics mass manufacturing is extremely expensive when producing runs of only a few hundred units.
Custom cherry mx keycaps aren't a very big market, and their entire audience is limited to a tiny subset of people who browse 3 or 4 keyboard forums around the world.
Basically, they only get made because some company in china has the required molds but they need a minimum order amount and someone has to organize a group buy to buy a minimum number of units before they can make the minimum order amount.
>>58875866
But is there a minimum order?

Doesn't matter. Lincucks don't realize their Android phones and iPhones so more damage to their privacy. And their Gmail accounts. Tools.

Hey, /g/. Decided to finally bite the bullet and build a pc. I needed one that focuses on speed, so i can run multiple processes at once. what do you guy think of this build https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HkDgpb

Anybody got a good offline map software?
Bonus challenge: Alternative maps outside the usual spectrum
Personally best solution i found so far is using a VM to preload the here.wego app's map as they let you download whole countries. As far as i understand there is nothing like that with google and the other services i found mostly just copy either or openstreetmap while crashing a lot more. The VM solution sucks though because it fucks with screen size and scrolling.
Nobody here who had the same problem and solved it?
>>58875099
an offline map would take literally petabytes of data. i doubt you could use it.
>>58875589
Nobody has this problem, no, because mobile data exists.

Where to find help with a startup i've been working on?
Only need one person and I don't personally know anyone with the skill-set.
Any websites or advice that cater to this?
>>58874858
Going to need a bit more info than 'hurr durr I need advice for something'...
What skill set are you talking and for what purpose?
>>58874986
Should have clarified.
It's a technical project, so someone with technical skills in unity (C#) and basic electronic/hardware principles. An engineer. No it's not a "video game" if that's what you guys are thinking.
>>58875118
Heres the deal.
If you expect someone to start off working with your for free, ain't gonna happen unless you get some student on board (Electrical Engineering / CS) and even then, if they don't have the vision and passion you do for the project, their 'free time' will be spent doing things other than working towards YOUR end goal.
Otherwise, the paid option could be freelance work. Plenty of sites around but you will more than likely get applications from Pajeets that barely understand Engrish.
I would offer to help if I had more free time, but I haven't worked in C# for around 4 years and the framework is constantly evolving and I do a hell of a lot of overtime for my current job.
I know most startups are usually a group of friends with an idea, since you don't have those technical friends... If I was in your shoes I would look into local University and what courses they run, see whats applicable and try and get one or 2 'competant' students in on it. They will love it because if it takes off, they can make some money, it will look AMAZING on a CV/Resume for a grad AND they will be getting some 'real world' experience. But you will have a limited amount of their time.
Otherwise pick up a C# book off of amazon.
I haven't proof read this, hope it makes sense.
what is the feasibility of govornment agencies legaly finding a way to force FOSS developers to include backdoors in their code and what do you think the outcome of that would be?
Only if said FOSS became very widely used, since most FOSS is barely used beyond the development group and their friends.
As it is, there's simply no reason to attempt to force it, but if they tried some blanket approach I'm willing to bet a lot of FOSS would simply jump ship to the darkweb or some other source not directly monitored by the government.
>>58874847
Here's the thing. You can find out with FOSS. You can't really with closed source. Sure you can Wireshark, but you can do that with FOSS too. FOSS can be code audited and wiresharked.
>>58875424
And what if they forced FOSS programs to have closed source libraries or whatnot that could potentially have the backdoors?
