I recently downloaded merikenstripcodeengine3.2.12 for Windows and ran it to generate a tripcode. Recently my laptop has been running the fan at a high speed at random moments for some reason. I don't know if this was normal or if it's due to that software. Could it be a virus? I don't remember this happening before I ran this software. Anyone have any experience regarding this software? How do I stop it if it is the thing that's messing with everything?
It's not even installed, because I just extracted and ran it.

I have the option of getting either the S7 or the moto z. Which should I pick? (Those are my only two options)
I'd get the Moto Z and the projector mod

Hi /g/uys! I just installed gentoo without problems on my pc (it's an old hp with a i7 720QM and 2gb RAM)..then after installation I decided to install x11, but during the compilation of the package x11-base/xorg-drivers my pc shut down (3 attempts)..I think could be the temperature but it's strange since during installation it has taken different hours to compile..any suggestions?? Thanks.
use a vacuum cleaner to clear out the dust in the fans
Stop installing meme OSs.
GNU/Linux distributions that just werk:
>Debian
>Ubuntu
>Fedora
>OpenSUSE
Anything else is literally a meme and hobbyist OS.

Yes.
With employee accommadations I have the opportunity to buy an HP Omen gaymin laptop for 500 USD. Has a 6700 and a gtx 1050 worth 1 grand.
I don't do gaymin at all, would it be worth it to buy and sell it for profit? I don't need a new laptop and I'll be getting a new Surface Book worth $1,600 for free from Microsoft.
>>58944328
This? http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/omen-laptop---15t-x7r21av-1
I guess so, I mean it's only $850 retail so selling on ebay and everything after fees you'll probably only make $100, but its better than nothing.
>>58944393
That one has a 1050ti. It's this one

So it's worse than the other one you posted.

Are you allowed to do that under the terms of your H1-B, Ramesh?
I bought an SSD and now I use my internal 3TB HDD for animu + media storage mostly.
Is it safe to put the HDD to sleep when not in use? I'd like to prolong the life of the HDD drive and keep my media from getting destroyed.
I've read some blogs/opinions that say that it's better to leave the HDD spinning because HDDs die from power-on/power-off or spin-up/spin-down cycles. Some sites claim that HDDs die from thermal expansion so it's best to keep them spinning all the time.
Then, some sites say that HDDs die from bearings getting destroyed from constant spinning so it's good to put them to sleep.
Who's right? What do you do?
If there are conflicting reports, the answer is usually that it doesn't matter
>>58944210
>If there are conflicting reports, the answer is usually that it doesn't matter
Well, it matters to me because I don't like the noise of the HDD but would tolerate it if it extended the life of my HDD.
PS: that rule of yours doesn't even make any sense.
Most HDDs turn off as a power save feature these days. IMO, leaving it on would be the best way to keep it alive. Put sound insulation in your case if the noise bothers you.
Ok /g/entoomen I've decided to do something crazy. I've decided to run Suicide Linux as my main OS. If this post is repeating digits I will do so without backing up anything. Ever. Have any of you got the stones to do the same?
>>58944060
Oh holy shit thank Stallman no dubs
Wasn't suicide linux a package and not a entire os/distro??

>>58944041
Yes. If I still had my 8350 at 4.8 I'd use that instead.
>>58943993
>My 480 is being bottlenecked to hell in BF1, Arma, and Star Citizen
No it's fucking not.
If any of the info on your post was true, yes you should have waited for zen.
Now go post the rest of your FUD on one of the other 10 threads about the zen please.
Which one of these fans is better in terms of noise and perfermance for the Fractal design r5? I'm not sure weather to choose the Be Quiet! Silent Wings 3 or Noctua NF-A14 IndustrialPPC
>>58943738
The beQuiet fans are rated to be quieter, but I recall a comparison of fans that showed sound spectrum, and the Noctuas had more even distribution, which means less noticeable despite being a couple db louder.
Both will still be well below the noise floor of a typical room even at max speed, so it doesn't matter much.
>>58943781
Show me the graph please
>>58943781
...actually, I just noticed that you're comparing to the industrial PPC version, that fan has the potential to run considerably faster/louder, so it's not apples-to-apples. The PPC fan is louder at similar speeds as the regular ones, so in this case the silent wings would be quieter.
