It's not a BTFO, but AMD definitely split Intel's buttcheeks with the pricing.

Post your component list, rate other anons', ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price, or improve specs or build quality.

Reminder to wait until Ryzen (release in 2-3 weeks) has real benchmarks released before you buy a new CPU.
>>
>>59009053
Yeah I was actually looking for /pcbg/ to ask this.

I'm coming from a fx 8300 which is bottle-necking everything like crazy. I'm looking at an i5 Kraby Lake build, but I figure I can hold out for a few more weeks because prices for even Intel stuff may fluctuate.

Although, even if Ryzen is actually great, no doubt that compatible mobos will be limited and very expensive to the point of Ryzen not even being worth it until late in the year.

I don't need to run it 320 times though? Why should the RAM that my DE takes up matter in times where 8-16gb RAM is the norm? You should focus on other aspects, such as usability and looks so that you actually enjoy using your operating system.

When I turn on my computer, the fans spin up for a couple seconds and then it shuts off. If I repeat this several times (20 or so, varies greatly) it will boot ok and stay on indefinitely.

This problem has appeared every winter and disappeared every summer for a few years.

This time, once it manages to boot, it does not stay on indefinitely. It shuts off within a minute or two. Sometimes it gets to the desktop and I can use it for a few seconds, sometimes it shuts down before outputting any video.

Do you guys think they will ever make a non-retarded MacBook again in the future?

I love my 2014 Retina 15-inch pro, but if it ever breaks, I am going to feel so fucked up. They don't sell these officially anymore, only the even more-hipster ones with touchbar crap.

As much as we can hate on Steve Jobs, at least he was the only one at Apple with a brain.

they still make the normal ones alongside the touchbar ones and theyre actually 300$ cheaper?

I'm a programmer with many years experience in multiple languages, including x86ASM, C, Java etc.. etc.. and I consider myself a pretty educated guy, but I have a problem I'm struggling with..

How to even begin to approach an automated 'comment bot' that can take a context (tags, title etc..) and generate meaningful comments on something.

I know this is a hard problem, but in case there are any people here cleverer than me, how would you approach this? How would you break it down?

Hey /g/. I'm a life long Windows user who just decided to put Debian on a live USB and try it out on my laptop. I know some people would say that Ubuntu or Mint is better for a newbie, but whatever. Any tips or tricks for a Linux beginner?
I think I'm having some hardware conflicts. The most notable problems are that my resolution can't go any higher than 1024x768 (stretched out to a 16:10 aspect ratio too, so that makes mouse movement a chore), and I don't seem to have any wireless networking. Of course my first thought is to install drivers, but I frankly don't know how. I tried to wanted to install a couple programs, but I'm utterly confused on how. The only thing I ever learned how to do on a Windows command prompt is cd and dir. Am I correct in assuming that you need the terminal to install the majority of Linux programs (To say nothing of drivers)? If so, I'm in trouble. I need some kind of Linux redpill, guys.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
