Pls redpill me on Solus
Is it the new "gentoo"?
>>59166437
only if youre Kevin
>>59166437
That guy who was shilling for Solus in the last few days, I haven't seen him post in a bit, what happened to him? :( Is he dead? Is he still alive? Did the CIA get him? Has he given up shilling?
What do you think happened?

He's getting a divorce
Would going to uni to study Computer Science be a complete waste of time?
To be completely honest I'm not definitely sure if I want to spend four years of my life studying it for a shitty £20k a year job.
Everything I read about it seems to conclude it's a complete meme and only self taught programmers that have successful startups do well.
Is it worth it?
>>59166184
>20k pounds a year
Jesus, Brexit really fucks you guys huh.
Despite what /g/ says the number of skilled CS people actually rises, e.g. every car is now closing towards airplane territory in terms of the code it uses and you really wouldnt want a pajeet to touch either.
>>59166184
Uni is never waste of time if you manage to actually graduate.
Working for Pound Sterling, is something you might want to reconsider.
>>59166364
Not so much brexit, just shitty uk. Everyone earns like half the American worker or worse here. It's diabolical.
I appreciate the demand is rising but it's got to be one of the most saturated degrees and professions on the planet especially in five years time.
Studying law and becoming a solicitor taphat charges £50 an hour is sounding much more lucrative.
Are you guys ready?

Mint Cinnamon vs Xubuntu...
Which is the better lightweight distro for a new linux user who isn't afraid of alittle bit of effort? Pros and cons of each?
>>59166060
Install Lubuntu.
>lightweight
>extremely easy
>>59166060
Mint is not a lightweight de. If you want lightweight go with xubuntu. Mint might arguably be more noob friendly but if you can successfully navigate /g/ you have enough technical knowledge to use xubuntu.
>>59166132
OK, thank you

Electronic companies are forcing 4k into the consumer, how long before they try to force 8k?
And what come after 8k? Will the resolution creep stop after certain point?
>>59165524
8k is like, $10000 and will be that way for only 3 years.
>>59165524
What the fuck is resolution creep?
>>59165964
screens/monitors getting larger and larger resoltions for no good reason

Kek.
This was from a recycled dell Optiplex and a $60 ebay p67. It was supposed to be a stop gap to a new build. Not equivalent to a new build. worth it to get 2x8 fast ddr3? or just ride the old 4x4 1600 kit?
What's the best video course on Dr. Racket?
>>59164721
Whoa, other people actually use Racket? I thought that was just a WPI thing
>>59164883
is for introduction to programming.

Holy shit I need to buy waterfilters
So what does /g/ use to make their time with the command line / text-mode editor not suck?
I generally do a minimum of customization from the defaults of a new system (and typically choose Ubuntu for compatibility reasons), but I switch to bitmapped fonts and always turn the saturation down on the foreground colors. I can't stand mushy-edged vector fonts that never seem to have a scale that they look good on.
No one wants to talk about their terminal set-up?
>>59164548
I use zsh with oh-my-zsh as shell. My zsh theme is 'intheloop'. I also use zsh-syntax-highlighting plugin. My favorite terminal emulator is Terminology, because there is no other terminal that has pulsing cursor(not disappearing like in other terminal emulators) and that light from top. Font I use is Consolas.
>>59164548
use terminus as font and save yourself some time
Can anyone explain why you would buy Ryzen when the i7-7700K exists?
Can anyone explain why would someone shitpost when no one cares?
>>59164442
How is this a shitpost?
Look at the benchmark and give any good reason to buy Ryzen over what Intel already has.

Oh and isn't today the Radeon conference?
People always talk about how amazing it is that "we put a man on the moon with such low tech computing". As if more computer = easier to get things done. Absolutely false. The more "advanced" (read: Complex) computer systems are the more they fucking get in the way.
Lain would never wear such a shitty hat.
Lain is anarcho-capitalist !

It's not the hardware, it's the software.
Early computers were programmed in assembly, C and similar.
I wouldn't trust a space flight on Java(TM) or meme.js

What's the TLDR on this article? I just woke up and I'm not feeling very inclined to start my day off with autistic shite.
If Linux gets overly popular, and it won't be l33t to use it anymore cause every housewife uses it, what will be your operational system of choice? FreeBSD? HaikuOS? Something else?
Discuss
Probably continue to use Linux since I'm not an insecure autist who bases his everyday choices off of the opinions of others
>>59163767
anyone who only uses GNU/Linux cause it's "l33t" switches back to Windows after a week.
FreeBSD is the next big OS.
Don't go to school tomorrow /g/ you're alright.
