Hey /g/, I recently downloaded the K-Lite Codec Pack and I need some help configuring the madVR settings. So far I configured the settings based on the wiki page on MPC, but it looks like that page hasn’t been updated since 2014, so more input would be helpful.

Can anyone tell me if the following madVR settings are the best for a Dell laptop with an SSD, 64-bit Windows 10 installed, an Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 GPU, and a monitor with 1366 x 768 x 60 hertz resolution?

Deinterlacing: "automatically activate deinterlacing when needed (if in doubt, deactivate deinterlacing)". "Only look at pixels in the frame center" unchecked.
Artifact Removal: "reduce banding artifacts" and "reduce ringing artifacts" both unchecked
Chroma Upscaling: Bicubic75 with anti-ringing filter activated
Image Downscaling: DXVA2
Image Upscaling: DXVA2
General Settings: "delay playback start until render queue is full", "enable windowed overlay", "use Direct3D 11 for presentation", "present a frame for every VSync", "use a seperate device for presentation", and "use a seperate device for DXVA processing" all checked. Everything else is unchecked.
Dithering: Ordered Dithering
Smooth Motion: "Enable smooth motion frame rate conversion...only if there would be motion judder without it" checked.
Trade Quality for Performance: "store custom pixel shader results in 16bit buffer instead of 32bit" and "don't rerender frames when fade in/out is detected" both checked. Everything else is unchecked.

If it's relevant, I'll be mostly watching stuff on a 40-inch Samsung SmartTV hooked up to my laptop with an HDMI cord.

Well I've already installed the codec pack, so do you have any suggestions on how to tweak the madVR settings to suit my GPU?

so /g/

i'm looking to build a super cheap workstation that i can upgrade as i get more work. I currently just need something to run Photoshop/Ilustrator, a basic IDE, and other misc. tasks.

I think i'm on the right path with this build, but i'm wondering if i should upgrade to a better mobo to get faster I/O and usb c/3.1

i work for a digital marketing company doing design and light web dev and my girlfriend needs a box she can do her graphic design work on.

Should i build this, or should i save a bit and get a better mobo? I want to add a graphics card, and eventually add more memory and get a better processor, but for now i just need something that boots and will let me get my work done.

Hooboy, I can't really recommend a dual-core chip for running those programs, it's going to be sluggish as fuck, but I guess it also depends on the complexity of the work you'll be doing.
If this is for work, nothing is going to be as infuriating as waiting for shit to happen. an SSD is a good move, but you'd probably want more storage if content creation is your focus, unless you have that taken care of externally.

I suggest scraping together a bit more cash and getting a better CPU, it'll be your biggest bottleneck by far.

>>59187650
i hear conflicting things about PS's core usage, most folks think high clock speed is the most important thing here, and seeing as i'm using a system with an Atom that puts out about 1.3 ghz, this would be a huge step up no matter what.

as for storage i'm covered with my cloud accounts from work and my personal accounts and external drives

I upgraded my rig recently and did a clean reinstallation of Windows and also formatted the harddrives. It seems though that the programs and features/ disk manager don't show up when I type it into the start menu. It wasn't like this before in any Windows 10 I used,

Things I did before this post:
> Created a new local admin account and deleted the first one. I set the second one as a new admin account and signed in my Microsoft Account. Why? Because the folder name in C:/Users wasn't what I wanted it to be.

> I installed Windows 10 Home using the windows media tool and a flash drive

>Manually pinned the .exe shortcut of the Programs and Feature utility from the AppData folder to the start menu to get around it.

What should I do /g/?

Hi /g/,
I'm getting ready for the first year of collage and I'll go for CS. What language should I learn? I know a bit of C#, but I was thinking about either BASH (cuz of Linux) or C/C++, since I'll be using those during my studies.
What do you think? Could you recommend some literature for language of your choice?

Circuit boards and amplifiers are technology, right?
Long time lurker, first time poster here. I've been dismantling and repairing music equipment (effect pedals and amplifiers) for a while now using the mighty Google as my main source of knowledge. Suppose I wanted to get into designing and building these from just a layout. How much knowledge is REALLY needed to get started? Do I really have to go through Electrical Engineering courses to know how each capacitor, resistor, transformer and tube affects the circuit?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I mean, you need to learn enough about all of the components and the physics behind it. allaboutcircuits.com has a pretty good online course type thing.

what you want is the art of electronics book as it's by far the definitive introduction to the subject, 'learning the art of electronics' is probably another good book, you should be able to find or buy copies of these books just about anywhere but try to get the 3rd edition (2015) as the 2nd edition is a few decades old at this point - it's not wrong just outdated, it's not strictly necessary to get these books but if you want a fighting chance you'll have to pick up a text book at some point

there's plenty of documentation and tutorials for learning electronics floating about too, and while it's not strictly related to audio you won't go wrong picking up some diy kits or even some cheap microcontroller stuff to give you some decent experience soldering and building example circuits

as far as audio stuff goes you'll tend to run into a lot of problems with finding bad circuits that are built by people who don't know what they're doing trying to sell snake oil but you won't know this without the proper knowledge or even tools, this shouldn't necessarily be a problem on stuff like guitar pedals but you'll then run into the issue of undocumented chips and the like, making trying to reproduce the circuits a nightmare

that said, you can find plenty of examples of 'open hardware' guitar pedals and the like which tend to have a lot of discussion and documentation surrounding them, an example I know of that I could recommend at least for a read is a cmoy pocket headphone amp build, it has a decent faq and various optional components, compares component choices, and has a troubleshooting section, it's basically what you'd want out of a diy audio guide and more, even if you have little interest in building one - https://tangentsoft.net/audio/cmoy/

either way,
>Circuit boards and amplifiers are technology, right?

it's not consumer technology or a shill thread so it's going to drop to the bottom of the board fairly quickly, good luck, anon

Should I install it?
