So, seriously.
Why does /g/ want AMD to fail?
We all saw what Intel did with no competition in the x86 sector. We got fucking single-digit performance increases, a new socket every revision, performance steps that doubled the cost for a couple more cores, "locking" their new processors and chipsets to need specific operating systems like Windows 10, and we still have no idea whats in the Intel Management Engine.
So, why do we want AMD to fail, and give Intel LITERALLY zero reason to advance? LITERALLY give them a monopoly on the x86 market, so they can fuck your ass to the tune of $1099 to eek out that extra little performance in some multi-threaded program you want to use. LITERALLY tell you at some point "oh, that kernal/package/OS is no longer supported. Upgrade or you can't use our new hardware."
Lol if AMD wasn't so fucking incompetent we wouldn't be having this thread.
Hell Intel where and are just as bad

Should I overclock my 6700k or under volt it and leave it stock?
I have the Asus ROG ranger z170 motherboard and out of the box, it sends 1.4v to the CPU to reach its stock boost clock of 4.2ghz. I manually set the clock to 4.2ghz and was able to undervolt to as low as 1.050v and still remain prime95/handbrake stable. Temps dropped 17C under load.
I also was able to get 4.7ghz while leaving the voltage alone (maxing out at 1.42v) stable 100% load on all threads as well. Heat is no issue, my cooler is keeping up just fine even with the higher voltage. I'm seeing 80C at a max after encoding for 12+ hours.
Other than encoding, I browse the net and play Vidya. So, over? Or under?
I'm installing Windows 8.1 update 1 after a good while of not doing so.
Tell me dudes, should I update it all the way or not update it at all? I remember using 8.1 update 1 without any updates for months and not having troubles, but still, what do you think?
Note: I don't give two shits about the botnet, I just want something more stable than 10.

Why should I ever need to upgrade my 4790k anytime soon?
Benchmarks have so far been inconclusive. We have sources saying it's shit and others it's not shit.
Now we recently got pic related.
Frankly I have no idea what the fuck is going on.
>>59208547
You probably don't need to upgrade if you have to ask.
Or maybe you'll enjoy an upgrade to your SSD, but you might not need a CPU upgrade.
>>59208547
>Why should I ever need to upgrade my 4790k anytime soon?
That's your fault for not buying it early cuz it is the discontinued product.
I got 4770K for just $199

>omg he's younger than me and didn't grow up with what I grew up with, fuckinmillenials
I dunno, Im not old by any means, Im 24, but I grew up using "dumb phones" (then just cellphones) in middle/early highschool, and I could definitely understand how it wouldnt seem intuitive or nice to use if you've never used one before. Everyone hated t9 word before they got blackberries, we just put up with it because we basically had to (or get a shitty slide out keyboard phone that will probably break after a month). The navigation was slow and you could only store a limited number of contacts, usually 150-250, I know because I was a drug dealer in highschool and had to have like 5 phones before I got a blackberry. If it had a camera it basically just for the fuck of it because you couldn't actually make out anything you shot (I think it wasn't until the RAZR came out that half decent cameras became the norm). Reception was mediocre at best, I know I couldn't use my phone in my room unless I held it by the window when I was like 12 or 13. If it had internet it would take eons to load anything and end up costing you like $30.
Dumb phones fucking sucked, why would you shit on a kid for not instinctively mastering a device he's never used before and that only existed because nothing better had come along yet?
Would you expect a 14 year old to know how to use DOS just by sitting down at an old computer for 10 seconds? Of course not, why would anyone need to use DOS now? This is basically the same thing
