From a workstation point of view. Wouldn't it be smarter and cheaper to get something like a dual CPU slot Mobo and 2 Xeons E5-2670 than a single 8c/16t Ryzen? I'm mostly talking about x264/x265 encoding.
14 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>59216025
Maybe, but then you're heavily sacrificing single threaded performance. Memes aside, the Ryzen chips have great 2015-level single core performance.

And increased power efficiency- those Xeons would be power hungry suckers. If energy was cheap for you, you'd still have the problem of heat. Two xeons pump out a lot of heat too, and you may need to spend money on cooling (IE, air conditioning) to not die.
>>
>>59216025
No. Mobo will be $500, and you will only get @15-16k MAX multi, still less than zen. And you get to use @280 watts. No thanks.
>>
a $70 E5-2670 is great value for money, but a dual socket workstation motherboard is expensive, and two of those CPUs draw a lot of power, and single thread performance is not that good.

I had dual westmere Xeons before, but the heat output and power consumption was too much so I just downgraded to single CPU.

/g,

sell the XPS 13 to me and convince me I don't need to buy another Macbook.

Primary concern is losing the Macbook's excellent touchpad and keyboard. It'll be used primarily for long periods of word processing, music and browsing.

I have one. The touchpad is very good but I wouldn't say its as good as the macbook. Keyboard is OK. You should still get one cause muh bezel

Owned a surface book and now own an xps 13 2 in 1 (work bought me it or I would have kept the surface book).
What this guy says >>59216615
It's pretty good and enough that it doesn't bother me, but it isn't macbook level quite yet.

If you want a windows machine with a macbook level touchpad, buy a surface book. I still miss that thing.

Come on brother, hurrrryyy!!!!! Fuck, im glad you made it. The intel drones are overloading by the 1000s.. one after one they slowly self-destruct once they realize the true power of Ryzen. It is okay though brother. Welcome to the AMD safe zone. They cant get you here. Only post in this thread if you are planning or have already bought a new am4 cpu and mobo. Im going for a 1700 here. We must wait a couple weeks for a new bios update before we can attack intel again. Until then discuss how glorious your new am4 purchases are/will be.

Hopefully the shills won't attack us here, but we must defend the fort at all costs if they do.

Hi everyone, so the main thing is that my PC is infected by virus even if no one was using my laptop at that time.

This virus was constantly downloading the whole mining thing after I deleting minerd.exe direction and after I found out what servers threat was using I instantly blocked it in my ESET antivirus.

Screenshots of blocked servers:
https://gyazo.com/b15b7bf8a7041d8edf9595de3e4d37d3
https://gyazo.com/7ed7730900d78b44d156391c83260829

The threat is still trying to download software constantly in every 60 seconds and antivirus is instantly shutting it down.

I've tried to use a few different antivirus softwares but it failed to detect it.

Where the fuck is Patachu?
He used to post and expose how Windows10 issues and privacy on this board, and turns out he were right about telemetry, it can't be fully disabled unless being off-line.
I looked further in the EULA which confirms MS collects data to sell them to third-party analytics companies.
Did he found a workaround already or some registry hack to get rid of it?
I would like to keep with Windows, I don't use Linux for everything.
Yes, I'm worried, and know i'm monitored - I just can't deal with this crap.

Same shit as win10 when it comes to performance and even higher in older titles.

why is this board so backwards and autistic!? realistically most of you are neets who have nothing to lose except for your anime collections and nobody really cares about your browsing data because your purchasing power is waaaay below average anyway

how come you dont want to embrace new technology and enter the future by having the google assistant make your life easier!?

>>

see thats what i mean. None of you people actually have anything to do - thus think people dont need a comfy assistant that lets them schedule appointments.

I get your POV cause you never have any appointments with anyone anyway lol.

why does stallman cry about freedom but then recommend software to go under a GPL (GNU public license)?

if the software was TRULY free... it would just release, without any license. the fact you need to be on a GPL to be 'free' software is a limitation on the 'freedom' of the software in and of itself.
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
You release under GPL in order to keep it free.
If you release it without any license, anyone would be able to get that code, license it under a restrictive license and make it illegal to distribute the code for free (even the first one that was released unlicensed, albeit being released first).
>>
>>59215479

i dont know much about law but that surely isn't a real problem. what is 'prior art'.
>>
>>59215442
Why are license important? Because companies would clone your code, patent it and sue you for copyright infrigement

Well, it's time to face facts, /g/entlemen.

As an alternative to Intel's current HEDT offerings, Ryzen 7 is a clear winner, offering 80% to 90% the performance of comparable Intel chips for half the price or less. Anyone looking to build a workstation or streaming box without breaking the bank should be looking at AMD right now.

However, with limited single-core performance and a high price point compared to faster Intel chips, Ryzen 7 is a poor choice for gaming. Anyone who was looking for Ryzen for their next gaming build should either wait to see how Ryzen 5 fares or simply buy Intel instead.

>B-b-but muh 4k benchmarks
At high resolutions like 4k, the GPU is the bottleneck in the system, rather than the CPU, so gaming benchmarks done at higher than 1080p are not indicative of actual CPU performance.

>B-b-but muh optimization
While it is true that optimization may help boost Ryzen's gaming performance in the future, right now Ryzen appears to excel in workloads that are highly parallelized. Due to the fact that games are typically forced to wait for player input before deciding what tasks to perform next, they are difficult to parallelize and thus there is a limitation to how well they can be optimized for a higher thread count, lower thread performance CPU like Ryzen 7.

>B-b-but muh Joker Productions
Right now his benchmarks appear to be an unexplained outlier. However, if accurate, they may point to the Ryzen 7 1700 specifically being a compelling choice for gamers if heavily overclocked.

There are major errors regarding smt, among other things. If ironed out it will give ryzen a boost putting it even with Intel's offerings. It's only 10-20% behind.
