How often should you replace a data cable to optomise internet speed from the router?
I'm using an old (maybe 10 years old) 30m Cat5 LAN cable. It runs partly through the roof cavity and outside (exposed to high temps, vermin, etc..).
Should I consider replacing it, or would I be wasting my time and money? Bare in mind, I'm from Australia where we have very low internet speeds anyway.
Also... is there something I can wrap my cable in to protect it from rodents?
>>59241199
If it works and doesn't affect your speeds why bother. Are you getting more than 100Mbps?
>>59241366
Poison
>>59241490
Well I have shit speeds right now <5Mbps, will be upgrading to <30Mbps in a few days (these speeds are normal for Australia).
So you can understand a few Mbps here or there can make a big difference.
But its hard for me to tell if my shit speeds are just shit because the internet is shit generally, or if that's being compounded by a shit cable.
WINDOWS IS A WAY BETTER THAN LINUX!

Buy Ryzen. It's the superior choice.
1. You are not part of the Herd of Intel. You are free. You made your own choice.
2. You do not support the botnet practices of Intel and Microsoft. You are free.
3. AMD is a philanthropist. A true Saint. You are free.

Why are a lot of images not showing up on particular boards? I've got a bunch of threads sitting in my thread watcher about to die, that I cant see any of the images on. What gives?
Using chrome if that helps.

any chair is fine, unless you are boogie2988 tier literally breaking it and shit.
you shouldn't even be seeking for the ultimate chair comfortable enough you can sit on for hours without realizing it. just save your money and take frequent breaks from sitting, go for a run like a healthy person.

Critique this build. I am about to order these parts (found best prices mostly on Amazon). I am looking for technical advice — compatibility issues, potential pitfalls, near-future upgrade consideration, etc. Give me the good, the bad, and the ugly. Also, I like to ask a question directly to those with experience in building a pc from scratch — did you have to buy extra wiring or does all the wiring typically come with these components? All comments, opinions, and suggestions are welcome and enormously appreciated.
If its for gayming you should get a cheaper CPU and invest in a better GPU

I plan to develop this pc by upgrading the video card and adding ram as I need performance improvements in the years to come. I'm hoping that my choice of motherboard and cpu are a good platform to build around into the future.
But anon, i just want to know which is faster...

Hey /g/
Fairly new to IT - I'm currently studying for Network+ certification, and a lot of the text covers how Linux platforms are often used in various servers.
I know there are different kinds of Linux distros (not sure if there are multiple UNIX distros or whathaveyou), but I'd like to know which Linux distros are most popular in terms of server use, to get a starting handle on how to use it and build my skillset.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
>>59239931
Sorry for the general lack proper terminology, still learning and trying to hold onto this stuff.
>>59239931
>>59239950
As a note, I have a PC and a Mac at my disposal, so if either of those could just run a VM, or if there is any software for either of those that would be useful, that'd be cool too.
>>59239931
Just learn Linux/UNIX in general and forget about distros, the only real difference between them is packaging managers and kernel patches which you can easily figure out if you know what you're doing.
Start with No Starch Press books, find all books on Linux/Unix and type their titles into libgen.io to get a free pdf.
https://www.nostarch.com/catalog/linuxbsdunix
How Linux Works, 2nd Edition is good, plus those enterprise books and sysadmin books.
Now look into devops and SRE books. Get the "The DevOps 2.0 Toolkit" from libgen, and read Google's SRE book https://landing.google.com/sre/book.html
The Unix Programming Environment is also really good, even though it's from the 80s sed/awk/grep hasn't changed neither has regex which it will teach you.

Depends on how long-running your project is.
If I'm paid to work on a project for just 4 weeks, I'm going the fastest possible way to get started.
I use sublime mode on cloud9.io
Mostly vim...but some vs studio, vs code also. So im for both types
1 -wipe Dalvik Cache/Cache, Data and Sytem
2- Flash Rom
3- Flash Kernel For Your Model
4- Flash SuperSU
5- Reboot

Ryzen gaymen performance is about 10-20% lower than the target competition from Intel, but the price is 30-50% lower.
Which one would you choose?
PS. Production = Ryzen is the winner.
>>59239495
it's 10-20% lower than a 7700k which is cheaper. i think it's lower than that when compared to a 6900k.
We have now enough data to make some valid comparisons in 1080p gaming.
Let us compare two reviews and their results in games. Both were done in 1080p and both websites used GTX1080. Games were a bit different but as can be seen from results, relative perf. differences are roughly the same.
Hardware.fr:
http://www.hardware.fr/articles/956-21/indices-performance.html
2600K - 100
7700K - 137.9
1800X SMT on- 110.1
1800X SMT off- 120.9
With SMT activated on Ryzen, 7700K is ~25% faster than 1800X. With SMT off, 7700K is 14% faster than 1800X in 1080p. SMT on/off brings 120.9/110.1~=1.098 or ~10% more fps
PClab.pl (this one is great since it has OCed results too!)
http://pclab.pl/art72996-45.html
7700K - 124
7700K @ 5Ghz- 130
1800X stock( SMT on)- 101
1800X @ 4.075Ghz (SMT on)- 109
7700K @ stock is ~23% faster than 1800X at stock (SMT on). This matches really well hardware.fr's results meaning both reviews came to roughly the same performance numbers albeit using different games.
Continuing with pclab, at max OC clocks the 7700K @ 5Ghz is ~19% faster in 1080p gaming than 4.075Ghz 1800X with SMT enabled. With SMT disabled 1800X @ 4.075Ghz should be scoring ~119pts.
It then follows that if we apply the effect of disabling SMT on a 8C 4.075Ghz Ryzen , 5Ghz 7700K would be roughly 130/119~=1.092 or ~10% faster than 4Ghz 1800X, while using GTX1080 and gaming in 1080p resolution.
There you go. That is a definition of "poor gaming performance" by today's (fanboy) standards, 10% difference.
IT'S NOT A FUCKING GAYMEN CPU
AMD ONKY MARKETED THAT WAY FOR EXTRA SALES
IF YOU'RE A GAYMER WAIT FOR R5
Other than that R7 is pretty great overall and we now finally have competition. Hopefully when I upgrade 3 years from now it will be for an AMD cpu.
I hope they get enough revenue to get their own fabs
