Hey assholes!
Im currently a sysadmin trying to learn the basics of programming, I've decided to go with Golang but I'm completely blank on what i could make.
Anyone have any ideas for something simple that would learn me the basics of programming and Golang?
All suggestions are appreciated.

I need recommendations on those mini ARM computers.
I have an external HDD lying around that I want to put to good use. The idea of simply hooking it up via usb and use it as a miniNAS at home is really attractive. Ideally, I would make the data available on the go.
Sadly, I dont know much about ARM technology.
The lazy route is buying a Raspberry Pi 3 but can I cheap out and buy on of the cheaper ones like nanopi or orangepi zero?
>>59257844
>NAS
You're definitely going to want one with
a) Gigabit Ethernet
and
b) SATA or USB3.
The latter is virtually non-existent, so get one with SATA.

Orange pi plus 2 seems perfect for op.
Buy a decent router like an Asus AC with USB ports, if for some reason you don't have a home server

QVLs are usually short due to lazy Chinks.
>>59257499
Nah, there is actually an issue with some motherboards running 3200Mhz
Generally, the consensus has been, 'did you check the QVL? Well, there's your problem.....'

Is WPS Office the best available Office Suite intended for Linux? Or should I just stick with Libre?
i keep using wps until libre gets new layout
>>59256773
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Libre is god tier for spreadsheets, their basic dialect is very well documented in one book instead of random tutorials from the internet and you can also write macros in python, but can port the engine to whatever you need , python is especially useful because of pandas, numpy and other scientific libraries
When will Cannonlake come out? /g/ convinced me not to buy 6900K for less than half the price and wait until the new generation of CPU's come out.
>new generation
All you will get is a 100 mhz out of the box oc for 100$ more. Not evening memeing, this has been happening for what, 6 years?
>>59256896
So I shouldn't overthink and grab that 6900K for $545 and enjoy working on my Adobe AE and Premiere Pro projects?
Would it be possible to create a software license where you can view and edit the source code of the copy of software you bought, but not redistribute? I'm on board with the idea of open source software, but I see the lack of ability for corporations to monetize it as a hurdle preventing it's adoption in most markets. So far, the only way regular consumers use free software is either it's bundled with hardware, and the hardware manufacturer open sourced the software to make their hardware more attractive, or the people who made the free software sell support contracts with it. If corporations could let you view and edit the source code/download edits somebody else made for it, that would bring the increase the security of the software by a lot because anybody can look at the source code and report bugs/security holes. It would also allow the modding community to thrive, and give corporations a way to protect their IP and profit off of it.
