Are graphics cards currently bottle necked by PCI express 3.0 16x slots? I suppose you could be missing out on some kind of new method, but I doubt that you should have waited out. Just upgrade when the difference is noticeable enough to warrant upgrading.

Not even close. Even in a 16x 1.0 slot you're only losing 5% performance on a 1080.

Is there any point in upgrading my mobo and cpu to one of the new cpus if I have one of 2nd gen i5 sandy bridges and everything works well including drawing software I use and the few games I have?

I don't think just the smaller TDPs and possibly smaller power bills will make it worth.

>>
>>59336393
mini-ITX isn't more energy efficient.
>>
>>59336434
I mean upgrading in general. My stuff is 5 years old and TDPs are almost 1/4 lower on most of CPUs nowadays and I guess faster cpu -> operations done faster -> shorter time of power drain.

and mini-itx is just my preference.
>>
>>59336503
It's not worth it just for the energy saving. But if you go mini-ITX for fun, I recommend going smaller, e..g. Node 202 or SilverStone SG13. The Cooler Master CM130 is too large for my taste.

Sup /g/

I'm preparing for a possible emergency or disaster and I'm contemplating what sorts of electronic stuff that would be good to have in such a situation.

Currently, I've identified this equipment:
- A portable radio (being able to run on batteries)
- Portable solar charging panel (enables charging of any device, through usb)
- Powerbank

Any other things electronic-wise you can think of that would be good to have in case of an emergency/disaster?
I got most basic stuff covered, like water filtration, fire-starting et.c.

include one of those dirt cheap chinese two way radios.
>>
>>59336472
You mean baofengs. for example?

Is it plausible that such radios could be used to communicate with first responders (police, fire dept et.c.)?

I don't have anyone else to talk to, so ronery ;_;

When I was out of state for work wondered into a closing electronic shop, shelfs were almost entirely empty. Saw a power inverter with a car charger plug in for those old lighter/electric ports, and some clamps to just straight up hook it up to the battery. Unit was really just designed for car batteries haven't seen another like it was just big enough I thought it'd take up too much space that I didn't get it, was on sale too. Fuckin really regret skipping that over would of been really handy.
