>the year is 2025
>interest in computers is dying down outside of those who wish to be employed in the field
>5G wireless is now common and allows, for the most part, a comparable internet experience to the average wired connection today
>cloud infrastructure and terminals that connect to said infrastructure have mostly replaced desktops/laptops/smartphones/tablets/other devices outside of hobbyist use and of course the free software activists
>cloud terminals come in a variety of form factors depending on user preference desktop/laptop/smartphone size/tablet and tend to be styled more based on being fashion statements than being utilitarian devices, though more utilitarian terminals do exist
>user experience with cloud terminals is comparable to the user experience on a stock smartphone, with basic customization and theming but not much else
>almost all use of the web is concentrated on a select few mega sites
>people's attitudes toward their cloud terminals and the software they use are similar to their attitude toward their microwave or other kitchen appliances, it just works, there's little they personally can fuck up, and if their cloud terminal breaks they buy a new one and go on like nothing happened
>home computer trends for those who are interested in technology are driven entirely by hobbyists and what equipment is being surpluses from data centers
>hardware has advanced to the point where SBCs are capable enough to perform most all of people's needs short of resource intensive software like games (though games are no longer much of an issue as all AAA games now run on the previously mentioned cloud infrastructure instead of home computers), making open hardware easy to crowd fund for people who desire it
>basically all software used on home computers is FOSS, and for the most part maintained by hobbyists with the exception of some overlap in software for hobbyist use and for server use
>it's the year of the Linux desktop
I think I'm ready for this future.

>FOSS will branch off to a whole other catagory of tech, even more than it is now
>Normies will use even more retard-proof gear
>Barely impossible for normies to get into FOSS
>FOSS becomes the playground of hobbyists and enthousiasts.
I think I would be okay with it too.
But I still find it a shame that normies will sink so much into their retard-proof gear.
>imagine 2150
>Normies and FOSSfags have branched off into seperate species in result of the informatical age.
>>

>But I still find it a shame that normies will sink so much into their retard-proof gear.
It's not necessarily that they want to. It's that the mainstream market is geared toward catering to the lowest common denominator, and many who don't necessarily need their devices to be completely idiot proof won't complain so long as the device still does all they need it to.

Will zen APUs help up move past this awful resolution?
4 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
no, until windows has "proper ppi scaling" you're not going to see this resolution going away

there are too many people with too poor vision that don't know about how to resize text, so they think 1080p on a laptop is "too small to read"

it wasn't a hardware issue, 1080 is easy to drive
it wasn't a cost issue, the displays only cost about $5 more to be full hd
it's a mass consumer issue
>>
>>59342190
So windows being shit is the issue... as usual B^)
>>
>>59342152
If you're not gaming, even Intel's integrated GPU's are good enough for 4K
The reason we see 1366x768 so much is because laptop and monitor manufacturers are a bunch of dicks who like to get away with installing the cheapest LCD's possible.

And it was easy to do when they were able to market 1366x768 as "HD".

tiger belly

Just came here to see what's been up lately and boy there's a lot of full diapers over CPUs. I can't honestly imagine how you could be a fanboy of awful companies that shit out silicon to make your 3D Custom Girl run 0.5% faster, but /g/ really has only marginally changed since 2009 so I don't know why I set myself up for disappointment every year or so I get bored and subject myself to this shitty board.

But regardless, I'll be generous and grace you with some actually informed opinions from a guy that actually has a real job in software. You're welcome.

Firstly, Ryzen's raw performance is a little bit disappointing, but keep in mind that Intel has been curbstomping AMD for at least a decade straight now. Nobody really ever did optimize for AMD, and now is no exception. This is pretty much because nobody serious could use AMD because they never produced anything even usable for highend work, only fucking broke lunatics that think playing rocket league and browsing exhentai gives them a degree in computer science.

Anyway, that gives it a severe disadvantage with _today's_ software, because people are optimizing for how Intel processors perform, especially with regards to caching. Ryzen offers cache characteristics that could really help optimize tightly CPU-bound tasks like video encoding. Moreover, it offers a pretty wide array of extension instruction sets, which offers more room for exploiting the new, different architecture it has to offer. Because Ryzen is actually viable in a higher end machine, these instruction set extensions may actually see some usage unlike Bulldozer where it was pointless (luckily, a lot of them returned for Ryzen it seems.) So that remains to be seen.

Frankly, I don't own a single AMD CPU and haven't since Athlon K7. But, I see Ryzen as exciting news. Does it have good performance-per-watt? Not particularly. Great price-per-performance? Depends on who you ask. But Intel needs competition, and Ryzen brings them MUCH closer to parity.

No. No the fucking don't. The Zen is very, very interesting but when building today for general purpose work or gaming there are better choices. Wait for Zen 2, quit shilling and trying to persuade other people to throw money down the commode.

hey /g/

i own a simple portfolio website where i keep my photography portfolio. super simple wordpress site, made with elementor and a blank theme. everything works nicely. however when accessed via mobile device, everything is messed up.

how do i easily and efficiently create a mobile version and make it so that it is loaded instead of the desktop version when mobile OS is detected?

i've tried following a few guides and using some plugins that supposedly do that but they all seemed to suck and not really allow me to edit their template and stuff. was hoping /g/ would know a robust, easy fix?

thanks /g/

Use bootstrap styles and vh/vw for height and width.
>>
>>59341776
For what you're doing, >>59341867's recommendation of Bootstrap might be too heavy. Pure might be simpler. https://purecss.io

I personally have more experience with Bootstrap, but it's overkill for what you need, and that's a simple layout framework. Basically, you define the page in terms of Pure's various UI components, and they shuffle around depending on if they're loaded on a phone, tablet, or desktop. It actually makes web design kinda fun, too.

Air cooling has reached it's limit. If you want a modern flag ship GPU you need to get a waterblock for it or one of the AIO water cooled cards. Otherwise you just won't be able to run it flat out.

g602 is eating batteries within 48hrs of light use.

its on a steelseries pad.

tower is on the desktop

only thing I can think of is the tower is vibrating the desk enough to keep the mouse from sleeping?

ive always had the tower on the desk but I did recently rebuild my rig with diff cpu/mobo/case/gpu, the two latter might effect the vibration.

Would this be the most logical reason or is it likely the mouse, which is about a year old now, is just shitting the bed?

Never cared for wireless mouse but this so far is the best overall mouse i've had so far. how douce baggy would it be to buy a new one and put the old one in the box and return it? I wouldnt do it but have thought about it...

Try diff batteries?

Set it somewhere else when not in use to eliminate the potential vibration issue?

Use different mousepad?
>>
>>59341403
Ah sorry Ive tried multiple sets, rechargeable and non.

Ive had the same pad the whole time I highly doubt its the issue its barely dirty
>>
>>59341377

what sort of shit batteries are you using?

mine (also g602) lasts for several months of heavy use (2-4 hours of gaming, 4-6 hours of work daily) on 2 duracell "ultra power" cells.

also it would not stay awake from vibrations caused by a normal computer.

Hello /g/! Some of you might remember us from months back, Drunk Slavs Assembling a PC thread.
We're back at it. The computer has no internet atm so we are wondering for installing apache with usb, what dependencies do we need or is everything included in the .deb package? PC running Mint.

Idk but you'll probably need a whole bunch of dependency .debs installed in the right order. I've done it on debian using their package site and it was a pain.
If you screw up apt will get confused too.

Building a new PC and looking for a good smallish mATX case.

Going to be doing some serious OCing with a custom loop so was looking at the Thermaltake V21 core but I'm worried that the PSU being seated directly below the CPU socket might cause heat issues? Could I just slap thermal insulator there?

Are there any other nice mATX cases around?

Also it has to be able to fit a 140mm and a 120mm rad somewhere.

The PSU has a completely seperate airflow from the rest of the case of you point the intake against a vent and the exhaust pointing back
>>
>>59340022

I use a Corsair 240 Air.

Full custom water loop with 2x 240mm radiators. Had to cut open the side with a saw to make it fit though.

>>59340209

Can it fit 2x 3,5" HDD's?
