What do you do with old PCs?
Lets say you got an old, unused thinkpad x220. What practical use it can be to a """""normal""""" person who already owns a laptop and a desktop pc?

I just purchased a Fujitsu ScanSnap SV600.

On a scale on 1 to 10 how badly did i fucked up ? I really wanted a quality tool to scan old books without having to resort to cameras and shit.

>Fujitsu ScanSnap

All ScanSnaps are high-quality, worth the money, and can easily be sold back on the used market.

That said, if you're scanning regular books on spines only, this kind of scanner (cameras mounted at angle, book holder not flattening the spine) is better than SV600 which is a planetary scanner.

https://store.diybookscanner.org/
>>
ScanSnaps are notorious for having poor build quality amongst the book-scanning community, if the scanner itself is held on with a plastic clasp be prepared to shell out 30-40 bucks for replacement parts withing a few months when it inevitably snaps off.

Hello /g/, /jp/sie here.

I need help with something regarding programming:
I am looking to hack a game engine to make a translation for a VN. specifically, what i am looking to do is to make a repacker using the source code of the unpacker, which is here:
https://github.com/vn-tools/arc_unpacker/tree/master/src/dec/purple_software
The problem is that i have close to zero knowledge about programming.

Now, I'm not asking for someone to do this for me, rather, i just need some questions answered:

>I know that i need to learn C++, but how much do i need to learn to even attempt this?
>Do i need to learn any additional language?
>Some programmer i consulted with said this code was a mess. But by how much is it?

bump because i actually want to learn programming.

Unfortunately, no one in /g/ knows how to program. We’re just fat nerds who like to rice our phones and spend our days tinkering with arch linux

I am a retard who bought a 1080, and it's already not performing well at 4k

Should I....

a)sell the 1080 at a loss, add some money and get a 1080Ti

b)get another 1080 at a relatively better price off ebay, and deal with SLI woes
13 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>59351977
SLI those bitches.
>>
The going price for 1080's seem to be about £400

So if I SLI, that's the cost

Ti's start from 690, and assuming I can sell my card at £380, minus the ebay cut and postage I'll end up with £350, so that'll cost me £340 + effort

Hmm
>>
>>59352002
Last time I did SLI, I regretted it big time (driver cancer in Linux for compute, microstutter in gaming in windows) but some people say that shit was fixed (while others say SLI is being phased out so don't bet on it)

Hello,

I'm a developer who uses his laptop mainly for developing mobile apps and websites and sometimes uses it for lightweight graphics work (small blender projects, some video editing and Photoshop). I would like to purchase a new laptop and my budget is around 1500$.

I've seen the laptop buying guide and what the various companies have to offer but I'm more confused than ever. Could you recommend me a good one?

Bonus points if it is lightweight, has a good storage and a good design but I'm open to any recommendation. The only strict requirement is a good virtualization support

Thank you!

thinkpad with quadcore processor

no it's not lightweight but doesn't matter unless you're a gay numale

>The only strict requirement is a good virtualization support
any modern laptop will do all that you wrote there

just get one with a "standard" mobile i5/i7, not Intel Atom or anything like that

Intel XPS 13 maybe, idk, do your own research :^)

What should I be looking for in a monitor to playing fighting and racing vidya?

I know it should be at least 60hz refresh rate but not much else as far as reducing input/display lag as much as possible. Should I get a 'TN' or 'IPS' display? And what is vsync (memesync???)? I'm playing on a ps4 by the way. Unfortunately there are way more people playing fighting vidya on PS4 than PC these days.

lol, you don't need high refresh rate monitor for that.
>>
>>59351819
TN panel. Don't worry about vsync
>>
>>59351852
But fighting and racing games typically run at 60fps, even on consoles.

Someone just gave me an iPhone 4. Is this worth messing with as a spare device or is it too old to use anymore? It's like seven years old.

I had to use one for a bit when I broke my phone. Next to useless nowadays. Can't be updated to use almost any modern apps. Pretty much worthless other than to make calls and send texts.

Reading books is a good start how to educate yourself.
>>
I remember reading some edition of modern operating systems a while back in high school. It was basically algorithms for OS development. I liked his "design and implementation" book a lot more for my osdev hobby. So if you are not interested in making your own OS and know C and assembly languages, then they won't be much of use.
