Hello guys I'm upgrading from an old gtx460 to a brand new rx 480 8gigs what can I do with it except gaming ?
>>59443700
what kind of a fucking retarded question is this? here's a retarded answer; use it as a door stop.
>>59443700
One thing you can do WITHOUT is... wait for the imminent RX 5xx release, and watch prices drop. Then reevaluate whether you want a cheaper 480, a 580, or to wait for Vega.
>>59443700
>only going up 20 numbers
lol shit pc
get on my level I have a gtx 1070 (the fastest consumer card available)
Is it just me or is buying a laptop incredibly frustrating?
There are so many different models out there and 90% of them are shit and/or targeted at retards, so you end up sifting through an endless stream of garbage just to find something that looks alright ON PAPER, but is still not guaranteed to actually be decent in practice.
I just want something lightweight/portable with a 12-14" screen, SSD and at least 4GB of RAM.
It seems like there is nothing of this sort for under $500 new. For some reason the retarded big laptops with fucking optical drives in them are cheaper.
How about used? Don't tell me I have to buy a fucking Thinkpad, surely there's something newer and not as bulky, right?

Elitebook 840.

hp zbook
there are two types of laptops in the world. macbooks and the kind poorfags buy. the reason the non-macbooks are all retarded is because they have to give poorfags a gimmicky reason to justify their shitty purchase.

When will my computer no longer keep memory and processing separate? The von Neumann bottleneck is kiling AI right now.
>>59443296
I have a block diagram for a neuralnet interconnect that shouldn't need memristors. Going to try to convert it into analog logic when I have time to learn the proper circuitry.
>>59443456
What would it use instead? Rat neurons?
>>59443296
>his processor isn't literally memory
Why don't you own the best laptop on the market?
>>59443253
Because I own the objectively superior one, you manlet
because i got sick of laptops. almost considering getting a xps though but got a AIO instead.

>I don't leave my house
now that major distros are in the process of leaving 32bit support will you install void
>>59443245
No, because its 2017 and you SHOULD own a 64bit machine by now. What sort of idiot thinks that it's still acceptable to use a 32bit machine.
>>59443245
No one fucking runs an i686 OS these days anyway.
every time I tried it failed during install

Potential Linux switchers welcome. Ask questions, get answers, etc.

Its my first month on linux and I can do basic things now. How hard is it for me to switch to BSD at this point?
>>59443628
Shit, I didn't sage the thread. It just a leftover name from previous thread.
>>59443242
When will you tech illiterated BSD fags learn that Linux is just a kernel?
I want to hang a tv screen in my house that acts like a painting but switches images every once in a while.
I want it to plug and play. I dont want to hook up a GUI and browse to a folder and run a slide show. Pure plug and play. How do I achieve this?
Something with a USB port. Next.
>>59443054
I want to plug her and play, if you catch my drift

Then you should have no problem listing your components and PSU model, right?

Asrock H87M mobo
i5-4590 (with aftermarket cooler)
No GPU atm, only integrated
Win 8.1
2x8 GB RAM
1 SSD and 2 HDD (+DVD drive)
There is no way EVGA 550 G2 shouldn't be able to run that.
>>59443065
>Win 8.1
There's your problem m8
Really though, I have no idea. Do you get 100% POST success if you go back to one disk?
It's possible that there's a shorting issue in your cables or second drive that's causing OCP to trip, but I can't think what else.
By "refuses to turn on", do you literally mean absolutely no response? Do fans or disks spinning etc?
Does a VPN prevent your ISP from knowing which sites you visit? I don't know how long my ISP keeps URL histories, and I don't think they're required to tell me when they give/sell it to third parties. I'm thinking of paying for VPN service with an anonymous, prepaid debit card. Thanks for any advice.
Also, how much does it slow down your browsing?
>>59442787
Vpns log everything you do and also all American and English vpns give out all info to the NSA and kgb, if you want a vpn get one that don't keeps logs and has one of those things that assure the NSA/Fbi didn't send them a comply order or idk how is that called
>>59442787
>I don't know how long my ISP keeps URL histories
In Europe, it's usually 2 years (by law), or indefinite time if you're under investigation/in a list.
With a VPN the ISP can only see that you send/receive packets to/from the VPN address, but they cannot see the packets' content if the traffic is encrypted (VPNs tend to to always encrypt traffic, unless manually specified otherwise).
From what I read, these two processors are pretty much the same when the clock speeds are matched. What I had trouble finding was how the overclock headrooms compare.
I'm looking to build a new small form factor build and was wondering if the 7600k is worth a $15 difference. ($10 difference + $5 for my friend to ship me his skylake celeron so I can bios update a cheap z170 mobo from microcenter)
>>59442693
The 7600k is slightly better. If you want a big overclock delidding makes a huge difference.
>>59442693
7600k is slightly better. also the only windows its supported on is 10. it works on the others but if stuff breaks no one will fix it.
also consider the xeon e3 1230 v5. priced the same as the 7600k but performs like the i7 when overclocked with asrocks e3v5 board. got mine running at 4.6 Ghz
>>59442693
If you have win7 or 8.1 Microsoft shoves their dick up your ass and doesnt give you updates. Get the 6600k/6700k and that'll last you 5 years before having to swap to telemetryOS.

>/g/ is afraid that if we teach children programming in school that they'll take their jobs
Ah yes, like all of those children who become writers, mathematicians, and scientists because they learned it in elementary school.
I'm not even afraid of the cs freshmen in my uni taking my potential jobs. The vast majority of them are amazingly bad
>>59442474
They usually have teachers that struggle to teach fucking basic MS Office usage in 24h+ total. Good luck with actual programming. Same for maths.
Writers, they actually can do that. Artfaggotry is maybe time consuming, but easy.

>I use a Mac, not a PC.
It shows that you more tend to be a housewife, not to be a techie. Apple has a fancy gayish appearance for a starbucks for a hipster and nothing more that can beat Linux/Android in efficiency and flexibility for a techie.

What about unsupported drivers on Linux?
My Radeon graphics card is unsupported by Linux.
