Hello /g/
Do you know if it's possible to make a cluster of computer with few of them, all different, to get one more powerful ?
I know some software allow that, but I'm looking to this for a general use.
I though it could work as a multi-core logical/physical processor.
Even if it's on a virtualbox or so.
I ask because I want to do some movie work, but my computer isn't enough powerful, but I got few computer so...
Beowulf cluster

I did some light IT work at a media distribution house before. You should just create a rack for rendering and a computer for editing. Queue jobs in the rack and render to some hard drive. That's how they did it on a shoestring.
>>59501436
That's called a beowulf cluster. It's usually done with identical systems but different ones can sometimes work fine. I'd not bother with less than ten, though. It's kind of a pain to set up.
I just installed Xubuntu and when i restarted my laptop only the GRUB menu showed up and it only let me select xubuntu. It didnt give me the option to select windows 10.

try in command line: sudo update-grub2

Thank you, Now what?

FF sound gimped on ALSA-only Linux installs, I've heard people saying Palemoon sound works but I'm running 27.2.0 and can't get sound working in YT, SC, etc for the life of me. Is there anything specific I need to do? USB audio is set up via ALSA and works in other apps. Losing willpower. May just give in and welcome our botnet overlords.

You're already running on pain-in-the-ass mode just trying to get anything working on Linux.
>Need to troubleshoot just to get browser to play audio

Encrypt-fags, riddle me this ;
If you've nothing to hide, then why do you use encryption?
>>59501376
If you have nothing worth stealing, why do you lock your door?
Same reason, you don't want someone else to harm you.
>>59501376
Because I have nothing to share.
>>59501376
Because I want to hide from everyone trying to invade my privacy, be that governments or individuals. Government agencies have plenty of backdoors that can get at my data if they really want it anyway, but a slavic NEET in his basement is stopped dead in his tracks.

Intel's optane has finally debuted
>can be used as RAM
>can be used as SSD
>slower than both!
>$1500 for 375GB starting!
hahahahahahahahahashahahahahaha
>>59501373
Is this for servers or something? What would the use case be for such a ecosystem?
>>59501482
I don't think even Intel knows.
Remember me? I hosted all the projects you used to like. Don't tell me you've forgotten?
firefox 3? no it didn't
I could never find the download links on google code just like some devs hide them in the depths of github nowadays

I want a laptop, but I also never got to building a PC. Is there any good gaming laptops? Or would getting a "gaming" laptop screw me over?
>Or would getting a "gaming" laptop screw me over?
Yes it would.
Things that make a laptop good are directly against what makes a good gaming system.
Gaming laptops are expensive, heavy, and power hungry AND still under perform their desktop counter parts.
Just get a gaming PC + chromebook (or other cheap laptop)

Why do people defend this phone?
I know your feel OP. No matter how careful I am I always manage to somehow fuck up my phones and earbuds so I only buy cheap
>>59501108
>Why do people defend this phone?- 0 post shown.
because it's not a phone's fault that some fool drops them. iphones are way sturdier than samshit phones, for example.

they are just as worse as apple shit
Have I been baby ducked so much? I tried to move my taskbar to the side of the screen for over 4 solid weeks. I know it saves vertical space.
But as soon as I moved it to the bottom again today everything felt so much better and right at home
>>59501101
Same, I tried for a couple of months, forced myself, because I know it's objectively better, but it just doesn't feel right. I guess I'm a pleb.

What's the consensus on adjusting the volume in OS vs the speakers?
Speakers?
>>59500915
system volume and everything digital goes to 100% to use the full range of the DA
then adjust in the analog domain
>>59500915
9/10 times I would rather adjust via a physical knob, unless I'm watching porn then its scroll wheel adjusting

Hey /g/
Today I found my old iPod shuffle 2nd gen. Thing is, it charges only via 3,5mm, and I have long lost the dock.
If I cut up some headphones, and a normal USB cable, would it be possible to connect the wires to make a charging cable?
>>59500731
looks dirt simple. even a dumbass could do it.
go for it. you just need 3.5mm jack and a USB cable.
>>59500787
thank you for the reply anon! stupid question, the 3,5 jack, if I take the one from normal apple headphones, if I cut in the the cable part, can I connect the wires, or do I have to connect the wires from USB to the jack itself?
>>59500731
Yes, but be very careful about polarity.
Might be a better idea to look for the dock online.

How do I make use of OpenNIC?
I have dnscrypt-proxy installed and found a few IPs that support dnscrypt (and don't log shit).

I need a USB wifi antenna, my router supports up to "n". Any suggestions for one? I'm looking on Amazon and this "https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005SAKW9G/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1490046071&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=wifi+n+usb+asus&dpPl=1&dpID=319UN98uKGL&ref=plSrch" seems the best.
