Coding.
First year CS student here.
Been programming for a few years now, the college course is easy for me, math is a bit challenging but I love math so I'm good at it.
I want to become the very best in my field of study. I am willing to sacrifice social life, girlfriend, health and basically sell my soul to the devil just to be among the best.
What do?
>>59586486
Write more code.
Stop posting on 4chan
>>59586505
Shit, how do I do that?
Hey /g/, I'm organizing a student hackathon. How do I make it good?
Free as in beer pizza and free as in freedom software licenses.
>>59586350
beer
>>59586371
Pizza is gratis for sure. Anything we make for the event is libre. Copyright for participants' projects is retained by the author, but I'll recommend people choose a license for their projects. I am pretty annoyed by how many hackathon projects are just thrown on Github without a license.

FUCK THIS PIECE OF SHIT!
What printer should I order now? Ink cartridges should be cheap.

Grow up manchild.

1) Grow up
2) Ink is always expensive. If you want simplicity, find the number 1 best seller on Amazon, and buy it.

Maybe you're just too autistic to articulate your ideas in a coherent way.

Can /g/ live without systemd in 2017? I always hated on it for disrespecting the UNIX philosophy and for getting to be a dependency of everything on GNU+Linux, and so on, but I might just have to accept it, 'cause it's fast as heck.
>mfw the systemd virus boots faster than the windows 10 cancer.
>#!++: 2520M, VM, 1-core, 512RAM, HDD : 8 sec
>win10: 2540M, real machine, 4-core, 8GB RAM, SSD : 10 sec
>>59585985
>muh UNIX philosophy
Define UNIX philosophy without referring to Uriel/cat-v or the meme that one program does one thing.
if you really gave a fuck you would use openBSD
linux has been infested with bullshit that disrespect your eunuchs way for ages, and systemd is far from the first
in fact, X is probably among the first. are you using an X server right now? better stop.
also, does your terminal do color? that's a nono.

glorious post-unix 9front:
1 sec
So, to get right to the point, I spilled some water on my floor and after cleaning it up I started hearing some kind of high pitched weird noise. It was super subtle, couldn't figure out what it was. Turns out my Thinkpad T510 was on the floor and some water got underneath it, while its in sleep mode nonetheless.
It's been about a week since then, If I plug it in and plug in the battery I'll get the Thinkpad logo and instructions for bios and then it just immediately powers off from there.
I'm assuming the whole things fucked now, right? I don't really mind too much, this wasn't an important system or anything. If anything I'd just strip it of parts and sell it that way, but if I can fix it somehow or replace a motherboard I'd just do that.
Keep in mind, water came in from the bottom of the system, not a typical water spill on top of a keyboard. I did the obvious "don't turn it on for a few days" thing but it seems like it's fucked regardless.
Keep taking parts out and trying to turn it on until it starts working. If you take everything out and it's still not working, the board probably is fucked.
>>59585934
yeah, I guess that's the only real option. Is there any visual indicator for a water-damaged board?
>>59585896
I thought thinkpads were water and cum resistant?
Do you touch type /g/?
Is it worth learning or just a meme?
>>59585894
who doesn't?
it should be the minimum to post on /g/
Isn't touch typing just not looking at your keyboard?
How can you not do this?
>>59585894
It's useful but I've been working with so many sysadmins that do not really properly type but have mean knowledge.
I like it though
lol wtf is this shit indentation? I thought Haskell was supposed to be a good language
>>59585890
But you can indent it differently.
>>59586655
hwo?
>>59586659
RTFM, but I'd start with pattern matching to remove code bloat.
what OS do atms use? if it's unix can we easily hack them? i was thinking about this yesterday, really makes you wonder that you see in the movies all the time they put a cable and start doing some stuff. i check one of the atms around my area it does't have cable/usb output, it's not like i will try to hack one but i'm curious about to know how they work. ideas?
>>59585647
Why are the cards being placed on it but not in the slot?
>>59585647
Alot of them are on dialup internet lines and run either xp embedded or older.

I've got a 5 year old desktop with an wd black drive. I'm fucking tired of waiting 30 seconds for photoshop to start up. Anyone have any good ssd recommendations? Also, should I install the os to the ssd?
>>59585633
samsung, yes
look up how to do it with an autounattend xml file, best way to do it with an SSD. Lets you specify the OS and Programs to be on the SSD but User folder on the HDD.
Samsung 850 EVO
Is that lizzy?
Can we have one of these?
>>59585556
no.
ok 4chin what came first the compiler or the language
>>59585541
Assembly is interpreted.
>>59585557
and in regards to languages above assembely? is a spec drafted first and then compiled? surely a compiler is changed alongside the spec during testing
>>59585541
Language, how else would you know what your compiler is supposed to compile?
