It's a reminder of how bad Linux used to be. Someday, anon, someday.

Been using Linux for the past 6 years and can't even think of switching to windows. Too bad you are too retarded to go around the technical differences of an OS.

where can i find some used severs/server parts? im looking to put a cheap server together for email and possibly a NAS.

ebay
aliexpress

why gentoo over windows server?
>>59692456
eBay. But honestly you don't need a real actual server. I would pick up some older PC parts for cheap and put something together. A server is just a PC.
This is coming from someone that used to have a full blown lab. Replaced with two older PC's and virtualization. Quieter and better for the power bill.
Hey /g/, I currently have a laptop screen lying around not doing anything. The laptop it's from had its motherboard damaged, but the screen itself is fine. It has a 30-pin connector.
I'm looking to make it into a desktop monitor, and I'm trying to find the right LCD controller board for it. Problem is, I can't find one with the exact model number -- LP140WHU(TP)(B2). However, a lot of the kits I'm looking at give a range of models they work with, which makes me think maybe it will still work even if it doesn't say so explicitly, especially since it's only the final bit (the B2) that's different. Exactly how inter-compatible are these things?

It feels like there is no point in doing what im doing. Using android without google is a pain, but it isn't possible to use it a bit. It takes over everything, and deleting stuff just hides it. This is fucking retarded. I'm forced to have everything connected.
I keep getting prompted if I want to sync something or backup something. But they don't leave you alone after you decline all that: Apps like google photos are filled with "smart" features like face detection that you can't use because you don't sync your photos, but still take up so much space and fuck up the otherwise slick design of the os. They fucked it man. There is so much crap you cannot freely get rid of. I mean you can remove google services but that's a big hassle as google forced most apps to work with their services. You won't have acces to many things and it requires a lot of time
fuck google senpai
better go back to being an iCuck then, or use Copperhead

I've given up long ago trying to completely ignore the botnet. Now I just limit how much personal data I put out on the net as much as possible.
If you want privacy, stop using Android. Stop using the internet.

Android itself is fine. The problem if gapps.
memes aside, is ryzen actually good?
there are a lot of benchmarks going around, all basically having mixed results that either show ryzen cpus as great or bad.

>also would it be dumb of me if i were to replace my 4790k with a 1700x?
Depends on your workload, buy hardware for your software.
>>59691926
i game and stream (gpu encoder). im mostly interested in changing the cpu because i want to, not really because i need to.
It really depends what you intend to use a cpu for.
Personally getting R7s is pretty stupid if all you want to do is play vidya gaems and browse the web. R5s are better for that but will come out later.
Anyway as it stands right now unless you're on a haswell or later motherboard there is no point in buying intel housefires anymore especially delidalke.

See this? It was released months ago.
This is AMD's Vega, which you're gonna see in a month or two on the shelves.
It's 4096 shader design, like Fury X was, difference is, this Vega (instinct) runs at 1540MHz, while the Fury X runs at 1050MHz
The consumer Vega should run slightly higher clocks, but not all too much higher.
Do some math, and you'll roughly understand the performance even without any architectural updates over Fury/Fiji.
So, what are you waiting for? Argue away.
>>59691679

Just like 1500+ Polaris on air right?
>>59691729
This isn't Polaris? Duh, different architecture, different pipeline and clocks, not very smart are you?
This card was already released in December, why are you arguing facts?

First for Arch.
So just reinstalled arch yesterday, and for some reason grub-mkconfig is finding my Windows system but not updating it in GRUB. (It's also finding it as Windows 10, which it had been doing before I reinstalled arch. It's actually Windows 7, but would still boot either way.)
Any idea what's up?

If I have to choose between a steaming pile of shit that spies on me and otherwise exploits me and just barely but somewhat maintenancelessly just werks, or a pile of shit that respects me but doesn't fucking werk and needs you to hold its retarded hand for everything you wanna do, I'm gonna pick the proprietary pile of shit.
Everyone working on linux distros should get their priorities straight: cull useless distros and excessively alternatives nobody uses, work together with common ideas and only few alternative flows, and start making that just werks without constant user intervention
