I'm building a sumo-bot for my intro robotics class. My bot has to knock the other bot of the arena. How do I win?

Hey /g/ents, i feel that my PC is getting too slow, especially when browsing with Mozilla; can't play any newest games and hesitating whether i should just upgrade my current PC or buy a completely new rig. What do you think?
Gigabyte GA-PH67A-UD3-B3
i5 2500K
4GB RAM
560 Ti
Dell 2209WA
ASUS Xonar DG sound card
Currently, i'm thinking of upgrading to an SSD and adding 4GB of RAM (to have 8GB. Is it enough, by the way?).
>250GB SSD
>8gb RAM
>RX 580 8gb (don't buy the 480 now, 5xx are coming out)
SSD, 16GB (of the fastest RAM your MB can handle) and a GTX 1070 and you will run everything just fine again.
>>59757082
It seems that there is not a big price difference now between GTX 1070 and 1080 (not 'gaming' edition) - is it still better to go for 1070?
Also, i have 4GB of RAM (2x2), so only two slots left - should i dump the old ones or do the trick with 2x2 and 8x4?
I ran a disk defragmenter and lost all my shit
maybe try a disk recovery program?
Make an image of the disk and copy the image to a new disk where it will be safe.
Use testdisk to try and recover the partition table of the disk.
>not having a backup
I see posts about data loss here every week. When will people learn, accidents happen, back up your files if they're important.
No external drive to back up to? Buy one, less than $100 gets you multiple terabytes. Too poor to afford that? Skip the movies/music/porn and put your most important stuff on a flash drive. No flash drive? Put it in some free cloud thing like drop box or even email it to yourself on Gmail.
There is no excuse for data loss. Not taking steps to protect yourself is pure laziness.

name ONE (1) reason you don't use vim
Because I use vi
>>59756712
/thread
>>59756685
because I find nano a much easier, faster to understand plaintext editor when I'm sshing. I didn't need to look up man pages or any other shit, all the controls you need (exit, save, etc) are displayed right in the terminal. 0 learning curve, instantly usable after opening it the first time, no weird shit going on.
For all other uses, I have more appropriate editors: I program in proper, full IDEs dedicated to the languages I work in (mainly intellij, paid for by my generous employer despite being for private use). Small shit like editing my little php/css/js private website happens in notepad++. Working on my firefox and chrome addons and similar projects sometimes happens in intellij or visual studio code for the sake of easier working with so many files in different directories.
vim et al is that useless little thing in the back of the drawer: probably good for something but everything you can think of has better suited tools available.
Probably an idiotic question but:
How do I stop the hard drive indicator light on my case from blinking? It's bright as fuck and annoys me at night, and I don't want to have to cover it because that's the pedestrian route.
I doubt there's any way to do it within the OS, so are there any hardware-based solutions beyond "break the fucking thing"? I don't care if it stops working altogether.

The cable is for the entire front panel, including USB ports and headphone jack, I'm almost certain
Having issues with my computer properly picking up my headset. It's a Turtle Beach PX24. I've connected it through several jacks being the tower jacks located at the top of the tower and the jacks directly connected to the motherboard.
In all cases, I can hear just fine and I am getting feedback from my mic when I speak, so that's all working properly, but nobody can hear me. I've gone into my settings to look at what the issue is and it says that one of two things are not plugged in.
Starting with the jacks on the top of the tower (both the headphone and mic jacks), neither of them register as being plugged in. Now when trying all six jacks connecting directly into the motherboard, it either has it as the line-in being unplugged or the mic being unplugged (with their respective pink and blue jacks, but I tried all six just because it's not working anyway).
So I've been doing mic checks and nothing comes through, which is why nobody can hear me, but I can't have both the mic plugged in through the mic jack and the line-in plugged in through its own respective jack at once, and I am not finding any solutions to this.
Help would be appreciated.
