Now that the dust has settled, we can all agree this was the most effective personal computer marketing schemes of the late 20th/early 21st century, right?

I was a normalfag until I discovered GNU/Linux in 2008. What the fuck is that? I need a quick rundown.

You're still a normalfag, dumb frogposter

How can you be old enough to have been using Linux for almost a decade and not know what Gateway is? I bet you don't know about eMachines either.
Once and for all: Is DuckDuckGo a botnet?
>>59850708
Yes it is owned by google. Only idiot would use it without VPN and 15 layers of skeletons.
>>59851038
I don't think that's true.
Known to leak information, but still vastly superior to market leaders.

none. they all are useless.
I disable them because I can't suffer the feeling some shitty "listening for my callsign" subroutine is using CPU during idle.

Is there anything worth salvaging from old PCs? I have a Dell Optiplex 745 that's like 12 years old. Another crappy eMachine from like 15 years ago too. Do you guys save anything or just trash them?
you can probably make some art out of the internal components but basically every single component is trash
the DVD drive is probably the best thing to keep
>>59850120
I actually use a optiplex 745 with a core2quad q6600 slacr and a hd3470 as my "on the tele" media streaming system.
The cpus can be worth a few quid (5 to 15 on ebay) the memory is rarely worth much but people will still buy it for cheap if you're willing to actually sell it for the slim profit, the hard drives are almost worthless imo.
The power supplies in any system that doesn't use a standard ATX form factor one can be worth salvaging and sellling separately as they tend to fetch a premium.
>>59850120
why not throw a large drive at it and make it a nas?

I'm using chrome developer tools, and the video embed link just sends me to a "not found" page.
Any way I can save the video? If not, I'd really appreciate an explanation as to what's going on (why I can see the video onsite, but not isolated)

Authorities were investigating a CyberTipline report filed by Google, in which the company said someone had uploaded child pornography to a Google Plus Photos account associated with an IP address traced to Zaccari's home.
>Bail for Zaccari was set at $25,000 cash, and as a condition of bail, he is not permitted to be around children under the age of 17.

I'm surprised you were allowed back on the internet as part of your bail terms, OP.
Uploading anything to Google is foolish.

How do you guys feel about Canonical no longer using Unity in 18.04 and beyond? Is it worth it to start using GNOME now? Or wait for it on the next release with the stuff Canonical will add to it?
I'll miss the global menu and top bar merging. Funnily enough, GNOME + those features would make it the ideal DE for me. I like GNOME so I'm fine with the decision, honestly.
Hopefully Unity being killed will push people to make a more distro-agnostic fork of it/encourage a global menu extension for GNOME.

About time. Fuck Mir too, and Ubuntu Touch.
It is the best decision Canonical has made in years.

hi sticky
So, I just got a new desktop computer (a Dell, in case that's important) The other day. For the first day it worked fine, but then it kept entering power saving mode for no apparent reason and restarting or crashing every few minutes, so it's unusable.
I just got it, I haven't altered it in any way, there couldn't be a virus, and it wasn't overheating. Any advice?
This is why some should not be allowed to use computers.
>>59849789
Why's that?
>>59849770
The only thing I can think of is a defect or something like that.
So now that Unity and Mir are getting trashed, is there any reason left not to use Ubuntu? I'm thinking of switching to it from Debian now.
