>Dmitry Bogatov aka KAction, Debian and GNU maintainer, mathematics teacher was arrested in Russia for 2 months and charged with "extremism".

>Here is news about his arrest: https://meduza.io/en/feature/2017/04/10/mathematics-teacher-accused-of-inciting-mass-riots-now-also-accused-of-supporting-terrorism-and-once-again-detained

>Dmitry had exit Tor node on his home computer, and Russian "investigators" charged him that someone with nickname posted messages about protests and "mass riots".

Using Tor is not a crime. Post messages about protests is not a crime too.

>Russian "law authorities" (I have to use parenthesis because they're definitely repressive authorities) for a long time prosecute people for their political views. They can charge someone only for share post which they don't like in social networks. There's no real court - "judges" usually agree with "prosecutors" and arrest people at short notice.

>I suggest Debian users and maintainers community to spread this information and inform mass-media about this case.

Should not be a crime. Russia can make anything a crime within it's borders it wants.

Xubuntu or Lubuntu

I really like the design of those laptops. Well, the Precision line had the same feel but in higher quality, so those were even better.

Install any distro, just use xfce or even lxde as the DE or use some more minimal setup if you're not a total newbie. lxde is ugly, so I'd recommend xfce.

http://www.computerworld.com/article/3188885/data-center/data-centers-decline-as-users-turn-to-rented-servers.html

I get it, companies move on from proprietary storage into decentralisation, still

>The global square footage of data centers, after recent boom times, is also expected to slide.

That's some sloppy phrasing. They're always writing it as if cloud was some imaginary sphere that doesn't require any anchor in our reality.

Also future of cloud storage/computing thread.

>>The global square footage of data centers, after recent boom times, is also expected to slide.
that's because of bladecenters and SANs though.

One datacenter at my old work had like 5 racks filled with servers. Then they moved to a bladecenter over a rather long time. Now they have only three racks filled. One with a bladecenter, the other with harddrives.
>>
>>59855739
Also greater rack density through virtualization

/var/tmp should be preserved between reboots, /tmp does not have this requirement.
Also /tmp may have a size limit but /var/tmp should not by the nature of /var

I have been living on my phone data plan for 3 years now

what can I say? who cares
literally who cares. this guy is just trying to meme his 'achievement' for clicks

I use a hotspot to connect my laptop
I shitpost using clover on my phone

I just don't use youtube, or Netflix
my only gripe is downloading games on steam, so I wait for the end of the month to download the games I need

last summer I found out about the backup and restore feature on steam, so now I download games everywhere I find a wifi connection, and restore the copy on my offline gaming rig

no home internet, nor land phone means I just 'waste' about 15e a month in communications

not that I think its something that amazing or remarkable
I am amazed someone could find it that 'insane'

>>59855502
