Why freetards can't define Linux?
Linux is what again? GNU+Linux? Gnu/Linux? Just Linux?

See fuckwits, this is why nobody treats you seriously. You sperg about freedom (even tho you don't use it at all) and you keep forgetting about functionality and actual purpose. How can somebody be this fucking retarded to use Linux as a desktop OS? Does anyone ever enjoy having an unreliable OS that dies during simple kernel upgrade?

Linux should be officially purged and banned on /g/. It's cancer.

Every single major corporation uses Windows Server as a primary OS because of AD and Azure integration. Linux belongs to embedded devices and supercomputers. NOT laptops and desktops.

5+ years using fedora as my primary desktop without any reliability issues. Nobody is forcing you to use linux. Let me guess, you couldn't figure out how to reinstall windows because of driver issues.

Well it appears I have gone and stuck my dick in a bear trap and bought myself a Dell XPS 15.

Recently received my 3rd replacement (that's not a typo, this is the 4th XPS they have sent me in just under 2 months).
It has already been packed back into it's box to be returned just like the previous 3 before it.

All 4 of them arrived with a major fault, covered in scratches, dents, fingerprints, and also included a free dime bag of dust particles.

Should I keep playing the replacement game with Dell, or give up now ?

Any recommendations on a good alternative to the kaby lake XPS 15 ?

Hi /g
What do you think about hardware encryption?
like the 2"5 disk case
22 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
It's better then software encryption for sure. I want a hardware encrypted USB but they're pretty fucking expensive for a decent one.
>>
I am a reverse engineer.

Hardware encryption is very, very seldom any good.

I've seen "256-bit encryption" turn out to be trivially vulnerable RSA-256. I've frequently seen "AES encryption" turn out to be, well, AES, but with a shitty block cipher mode and a static key, or at the very least awful key management.

I've even seen people make stupid mistakes, or have stupid backdoors, in products that passed expensive and supposedly hard-ass FIPS certification.

I haven't analysed that particular thing, but my snake-oil sense is already tingling.

If you're on Linux, use dm-crypt/LUKS with AES-256 in XTS mode. If you're on Windows, use Windows 10 Pro with Bitlocker encryption in XTS mode and don't save the recovery key to OneDrive when asked (you're trusting MS anyway if you run their software; it was legit and not backdoored when I last disassembled it; and nothing else handles all the various power state transitions without possibly accidentally dumping keys to hiberfil.sys, except maybe VeraCrypt but eh, build process and I have some difficult questions about their integrity).

Software encryption is infinitely more auditable, testable, and has been fast enough to have essentially no performance impact at all for over 2 decades.

If you genuinely want to use hardware encryption, to do any better you either want something open-source and currently in early beta (cryptech.is) or you want something that you can see multiple positive audits on which has successfully passed FIPS 140-2 Level 4 or EAL 7 augmented with no caveats. I know of only one unit that fits the bill, and you have to ask for the price - that is for people who are running CAs and the DNSSEC root, and it has huge disadvantages too.

Why there is no VirtualBox software for android?
Come on, it's 2017 already. Cheap android tablets got 2GB of RAM, x86 intel CPUs with vt-x instructions and a lot of space. Why noone wants to benefit from vt-x on Android?

Why we still don't have smartphones that can be transformed into full pc by connecting to external screen and bt mouse/keyboard?
Microsoft is shilling again with their Windows 10 for ARM, but I find it difficult to believe they will ever release this into public.

My AKG K701s have served me well for five years but today one of the wires disconnected causing loss of audio in the right speaker. It's a simple soldering job to fix it and I have temp fixed it with gaffer tape but I feel now is the time to invest in a second pair of decent open headphones. I listen mainly to rock, folk, electronic and classical. I already have an 02 amp and ODAC which I'm happy with.

I'm looking at the DT 990s (£110), K702 (£130) and Sennheiser HD650s (£250) but I am open to other suggestions under £250. Would be very grateful for any advice please.

>DT 990
Due to the comparatively low cost these appeal to me quite a bit but they have a somewhat mixed reception including accusations of "sounding weird". Is there any truth to this?

>K702
I am tempted as I love my K701s but the performance has always been a bit below par for heavier rock and bassy things - I would also quite like something different, although ideally retaining or exceeding the level of quality.

>HD650s
I've always wanted these fuckers but I just can't justify the price. They've been out for ages and never seem to go down in cost whereas Beyerdynamic, AKG and other hi fi headphones do. Are they really worth it when there are so many other good headphones for cheap right now?

HD600.
>>
>>59860468
Why the HD600 over the HD650? The price is very slightly better (£230 compared to £250) but I was always under the impression the 650s were supposed to be slightly better?
>>
>>59860400
There is dedicated thread for headphones, but I will answer anyway.

>DT 990
I would say, don't. But if you really want to, find somewhere where you can listen to those. It's completely different experience, you are switching from bright headphones with superb soundstage to V-shaped ones with smaller soundstage. If that's what you are looking for then go for it.

>K702
Why not, but it's actually the same thing. I would rather resolder K701 than buy K702

>HD650
HD600 are objectively superior. They are much more neutral than K701, actually in soundstage K701 still wins but otherwise HD600/650 is an upgrade. If you really want to buy something new, then this is something I would recommend, but again, I would say stick to HD600.
