Salutations!
Anon here with requests of book recommendations, specifically on the topic of programming phone applications.
A bit new to software development, however I have a novel App idea that I'd like to build and sell if possible. Are there any books on IOS and/or Android programming that give you an overall foundation for the software development process and all necessary components of a program (where to write objects, third-party APIs, etc).
Any constructive response is appreciated!
Best,
-Anon
It's been ages since I last touched a book on software development. What kind of starting point are we talking about exactly? If you know basic programming, why not just dissect a sample project for whatever framework you want to learn, then skim the docs to learn the full extent of what it can do. Whenever you use something, read the full API of the part of the framework you're using. At least that's how I learn new frameworks.
>have great idea so much smarter than anyone else idea ever
>to smart to fall for the use a search engine to figure out implementation of my idea meme
Yep you'll be rich in no time

Good to know. I'll be sure to read up on different frameworks and API docs.
I typically go for books because all the necessary information is in one place and arranged in a sequential order.

Hey /g/.
I've never bought a NAS before, and it's time to do it.
I need it to access my stuff and watch movies on from anywhere, as well as enabling my parents to stream stuff on it via a future mediaplayer.
I will be doing 4K material.
What do I have to look out for? Are they simple enough so I can get any "4K ready!" tagged model and call it a day?
Do they try and scam you with shitty harddrives?
Any recommendations for guides or models?

You saying I can buy NAS-sized computers? Like some kind of raspberry pi?
>>59870404
>You saying I can buy NAS-sized computers?
I'm sure there are some places that you could buy a prebuilt, but I think he was talking about just building it yourself.
>Like some kind of raspberry pi?
No, not like an ARM board with no SATA ports. Just an x86_64 computer.

How are we in 2017 and nothing has managed to beat 2.2.1?
Best CVEs and unknown vulnerabilities which will never get patched too.

I have a budget of $650-750 to build a gaming PC. I've never owned a gaming PC before and was wondering what you guys thought of my current build. Will it run most games on good settings? What can i do to save more $? I'm from the U.S. so if anyone wants to link me alternative parts for cheaper, please take that into consideration. Thank you. I'll take any advice.
PS: This came out to be $548.00 on pc part picker and i'm buying a separate motherboard called GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-S2 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard on newegg for $56.00 because am3+ sockets don't support ddr4 ram.
Total is ~$605.00
Seems like a solid purchase

If I have 2 different GPUs in my machine, how do I specify which GPU renders what?
Is there a 3rd party program that does that?
>take out gpu 2
>start program 1

>start program 2
>program 2 will use gpu 2

You can do it on GNU/Linux if the kernel is compiled to support it
/pcbg/: Post your component list; rate other anons'; ask questions in general.
State the PURPOSE of your PC & BUDGET. State COUNTRY if not USA.
List GAMES/SOFTWARE you use often. List resolution & hz if gaming.

Currently worthwhile CPUs:
>G4560 for budget builds (<$500) unless G4620/i3 is discounted over 25%
>i3 aren't worthwhile, unless for single threaded. e.g. dwarf fortress & emulators
>i5 aren't worthwhile. Get Ryzen 5, drop down to G4560, or up to i7
>No R5 1400 unless super cheap on sale
>i7-7700k is good but pricey. If over budget, consider 6700k and/or a locked motherboard + cheaper cooler; not chasing 4.8Ghz capable when you weren't gonna overclock - or get Ryzen 5/7
>R7 for compute/multitask/mixed use
Currently worthwhile GFX cards:
>RX470, RX480 8GB, R9 Fury, 1070, 1080, 1080TI
>1060 is worth considering over a 480 if same/cheaper in your country, or you just play games it's better on for the price. 1050Ti is for mITX builds
>Budget builds: consider integrated graphics over any card weaker than an RX470, unless another's price/performance is better (ie discounted/used)
>RX500 comes April 18th. Vega in May
General:
>Don't feel bound to a specific brand/model. Parametric filters on pcpartpicker can help here
>Consider SSD only for what you budgeted on SSD+HDD combined. Add HDD later once needed
>NVMe aren't worth it just for faster OS boot. They're primarily for quicker loading/saving of files for productivity
>Save money with mATX case/mobo, and if patient by purchasing your parts individually in flash sales

Evidentally I've made some stupid decisions while planning out my build.

How would OS market be affected if MS made Windows core open source?
Linux would disappear from desktops, Windows would have total domination
>>59869432
Would be hilarious, especially now after OneCore.
Desktop Linux would probably fall to 0,4% or something.
>>59869446
>OneCore
What's that?
Google Home will no longer dutifully recite the burger's ingredient list, though. Apparently Google has made changes so that Burger King's specific recording of the phrase will no longer trigger a voice response. Instead, the Google Home just quietly goes back to sleep, without any response to the query. Having a live person ask "OK Google, what is the Whopper burger?"' will still trigger a voice response, though.
Google is still a bad guy

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.
