Does anyone have a GNU / Linux distribution to be recommended? Possibly with a small number of packages. I had a bad experience with Debian 9 (XFCE) and its malfunctioning network-manager. I'm looking for something that is properly configured.
No Ubuntu, because is full of unused shit.
No Gentoo or Arch-Linux. I have no time for install these.

I've been using Debian Jessie (GNOME) since it came out and I've never had an issue with it. I can work perfectly fine with it. I'm not really a fan of the default file browser in GNOME though.

-openvpn works well
-never had issues with wifi or ethernet
-able to play vidya
-dual monitor works fine
>>
Maybe an ubuntu flavour like Xubuntu, Kubuntu, Mate, etc.
>>
Not Debian's fault networkmanager is shit. There are other options.

when does everybody realise most people use 600 dollar for their entire build?
most people don't care about 600 dollar cpu's or gpu's. if you turn the settings to medium, mostly you barely see it, but the fps easily doubles. low end hardware is where its at.

$450 and some change.

athlon x860k
8gb ram
r9 380
1tb hd
24" 1080p monitor

nothing spectacular but it works for what I need it to. play Skyrim with 100+ mods, tomb raider 45-60 fps.

although I will eventually upgrade because CPU sucks ass at video rendering which I recently got into. maybe ryzen 5 or an I5 that supports ddr3 ram so I don't have to upgrade. who knows.

The largest known prime has over 22 million digits. In the languages I checked, a long variable can hold like 19 digits. Then how the fuck can there be an app that works with values that have 22 million digits? What language would allow me to implement this and how hard would it be?

I only have experience with Java for this, but the BigInteger type can hold arbitrary-length integers.

You lose hardware accelerated arithmetic, but it works.
>>
>>59878594
Can it hold a 22 million digit signed number? What about unsigned ones?
>>
>>59878627

>expecting java to have unsigned number types
dohoho

But yeah, you can represent any number so long as you have the memory for it.

Guess the reason why Ryzen feels smoother is now explained, Kabylake has 180ms spikes at times that completely freeze the game, while Ryzen's worst frames were under 25ms.

https://youtu.be/11NfsMykyAk?t=385

It's a good, in depth video, worth a watch.
It's pretty hilarious that it took some guy that doesn't even play games to come to this conclusion after 40 days since Ryzen launched, while there are dozens of gaming dedicated channels and websites that should have find this out ages ago.
Just proves how modern reviewers are fucking garbage marketing bots with a rare few exceptions.

Frametimes literally don't matter. All that matters is the static FPS. I bet you don't even know what goes in to making an average an average, stupid newfags.

http://variety.com/2017/digital/news/apple-disney-acquisition-rumor-1202029827/

>Apple could potentially find the cash to pull off a $200 billion-plus takeover of Disney — creating a company worth $1 trillion with “almost limitless opportunities in content and technology.”

>“Recently, investors have increased their expectations that Apple could seriously consider acquiring Disney,” RBC analysts Steven Cahall and Leo Kulp wrote in the note.

>“Content is a major focus for Apple, target size is not an issue, and Disney offers an avenue to diversify away from hardware without diluting the strong Apple brand,” RBC’s Cahall and Kulp wrote.

>The M&A rumor mill got new grist last fall, when Apple chief Tim Cook told analysts that the tech giant was “open to acquisitions of any size.” In addition, Apple execs met with Time Warner honchos in late 2015 in a discussion that raised the possibility of a merger — before AT&T moved on its $85 billion bid for Time Warner.

>But would Apple shareholders support such a bet-the-company move? Assuming a 40% premium for Disney, the deal would carry a hefty $237 billion price tag. If Apple investors balk, Disney could consider spinning off assets like ESPN and theme parks to make the deal more palatable.

no.
it's just another episode of investment bankers spreading bullshit in the hope of getting work.
>>
>>59877949
sounds like bullshit
but if true, i guess I'd be an Apple employee and I wouldn't have to pay their ridiculous markup to replace my aging laptop
>>
>>59877949
Wouldn't Apple need to get their money taxed first to buy them? This would further inflate the cost. Besides diversification or not, it seems silly to buy such a huge company that's at its peak.

Beats made sense because it was a growing brand and forced Applel into streaming and premium headphones sectors that are close enough to their main business. Now Tesla, that'd make sense for the future and as a start of a scary empire.

Everyone shits on them, but for the few of us who actually enjoy watching our physical movie collection, or play retro games that only ever were released on discs, what is top of the line these days?

Need something that can read and write Blu-Ray, DVD, and CD and is relatively quiet.

Do you guys do quadcopters? I just picked up a Ei-Hi S900R for $20 without controller or charger, and am looking for advice as per using my computer as a remote controller, if that could be done with bluetooth or something.

I've not done stuff with drones before, so don't really know what I'm doing here.

If /g/ could design their own DE, how would it be?

Would you follow a lightweight, full featured or a modular approach?
Newbie friendly and limiting or hard to master but powerful?
Minimalist look or shiny eye candy?
How customizable would it be?

More importantly, fucking sane defaults.
