Hey guys I have a question. I'm a student in need for a computer and i was asking if a Chrome OS one was ok to go to lesson and everything. Like is it not to bad or something ?
Thank you for your help !
>>62265002
What exactly do you expect it to do? What are you majoring in? Does your institution require that you run certain programs? Do you expect it will?
Help me help you, m8
If you just need a web browser and to type up some documents it's a good budget option.
When I was in university I have to use lots of windows only software so double check you don't need minitab or anything like that.
If you are in CS, you'll want a different machine.
It's pretty much designed for students, yes. Make sure it can run the software you need though, it's GNU/Linux.
Is there anyway to get a good and free vpn service?
>>62264900
Depends, do you want your all your VPN browsing experience to be in the hands of a company?
>>62264957
could this, by any way, go horribly wrong for me?
>>62264900
no baka
>>62264972
no dont listen to that faggot free vpns are best betternet says they dont sell your data so use it its my personal favorite one ;)
This browser is actually comfy and clean as fuck and fast, why didnt you faggots tell me about it before?
WE DID BUT YOU WOULDN'T LISTEN
>>62264682
Cause last time i listened to /g/ i installed ubuntu and it was trash
Release is also quite fast and comfy. Firefox really stepped it up with multiprocess
>"Why, yes, I do hinder my computing experience by exclusively using FOSS garbage and CuckCuckGo under the false pretence that not only do I matter, but I matter so much that the machine built for convenience should be as inconvenient as possible to protect muh privatez, thanks for asking"
>>62264612
Here we go again...
Fuck off cunt. Seriously. You post this garbage every day. Piss off and grow up
>the state of nu-/gee/
>>62264641
Yep, its fucking pathetic.
But as time goes on immaturity will be prolonged for longer and longer. Shit like OP's post will only increase in volume.
Now we know skeuomorphs are 22% faster, can we finally drop flat UI design?
https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/09/05/flat_uis_designs_are_22_per_cent_slower_official/
>>62264504
Knobs are a mistake.
>>62264504
>it's gloss and shine skeuomorphism all over again
Fuck, it's not the kind of skeuomorphism I wished to return.
>>62264504
but its only companies who are pushing flat designs
most users dont give a shit
and the few who do prefer skeuomorphism
Can anyone donate me money to buy a pair of earphones please

>>62264443

What 2FA (authenticator) app do you guys use?
Im currently using the Google Authenticator, but since it is a massive botnet Im looking for a good FOSS one.
>>62264378
I don't think there is anything else
Hijack: What 2FA app can into S/KEY?

Glad I could help.
What isn't to like about this language?
>Expressive type system with built in variants
>Obvious and straightforward error handling
>Most polymorphic techniques from other languages are covered elegantly with just traits and generics
>Efficient, no GC
>Same opportunity for low level optimizations as C or C++ with unsafe blocks
I don't get what the hate is for. The community is wank, but the concepts are solid and so are the implementations.
>>62264265
Convince me and post some neat examples of how the language looks like..
>wants to be a system programming language
>doesnt have support for linux native polling functions and IPC, need external libraries that do it and those dont even do it completely
its a meme language
>autistic language made for the most autistic freaks
>look at this dumbass, pointless pet project I wrote in Rust!
It's why you Rustfags will never be taken seriously.
Who here /secretary/? I just got a job as one and I'm wondering what are the keys to optimizing doing trivial shit others can't be bothered to do
>>62264196
Ask for a budget. And then proceed to hire your own secretary.

Unfortunately not viable in my situation, but good idea. It's more of a personal assistant kinda thing than general management

I have a small issue with Extract Audio Copy. I want to rip some of my CDs to FLAC, but when i do an uncompressed copy i keep getting my files in WAV, not FLAC.
Any idea ? Thanks.
>I choose an uncompressed copy and get an uncompressed format, it makes no sense!
RTFM
>>62264189
>but when i do an uncompressed copy i keep getting my files in WAV, not FLAC.
and what did you expect to happen?
flac is a compressed format
hi /g/
please can you guys tell me how to steal source code of any theme on tumblr?
Right click
View source?
Done
>>62264068
>copying source code
If you do your theme will the same and all the posts, pictures and everything from the person’s blog
>>62264084
I don't think you're about to use raw HTML on tumblr. You'd copy the style, but content of your blog will be just the same.
If you want help:
>Assemble parts list
https://pcpartpicker.com/
>State the budget for your build (and country if not USA)
>List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate
>Clarify your goal for build improvements: lower price or improved specs?

CPUs:
No i5 unless discounted
>G4560 - poverty-tier builds
>R3 1200 - Budget builds (<$500)
>R3 1400 - If you need multithreading
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage
>R7/Used Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/VM/mixed use, not for just gaming
GPUs:
Coin miners have driven price up and stock down, waiting to buy a GPU might be wiser
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>GTX 1050(Ti) - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both
>RX570 - 1080p@60~hz maxed, running most maxed older games at 100~Hz
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@80hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; RX580 better in newer games
>GTX 1070 or Vega 56 - 1080p@130hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p
>GTX 1080Ti - 1440p@144hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games
>Good fucking luck even getting a VEGA right now
RAM:
>Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM
>Ryzen CPUs benefits a lot from high speed RAM, 3200 MHz is ideal
General:
ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor

seeing that reddit went full evil and doesn't respect our freedoms, I think we should migrate to a free alternative:

>open-source centralized server

I'll never understand what's the point that people make when showing project like this.
Does it work distributed or better, decentralized? It seems not from the readme. Usually it is a feature people highlight on their project when talking about freedom.
>>62264024
no, these anarchists are really running this on a centralized server and they don't realize the irony in that

Decide to try ubuntu dual boot
>Take like 2 hours to fix GRUB not wanting to install
>Finally done, other system not in GRUB, fix it after 30 min
>Mouse clicks but wont move, had to get an old shitty mouse that worked
>Logitech g30 headphones not detected, only speakers
>>62263708
If you can't even get Ubuntu to work than GNU/Linux may not be for you, fa.m
Kudos for trying, though.

Jesus, why not buy a Thinkpad and try to install Gentoo on it? Learn C while you're at it and listen your shitty music on a portable music player with Sennheiser headphones?
