Is this the hardware equivalent of cuckoldry?
>>59921668
Oh, well, i5's are dead. Like, really-really dead.
/pcbg/: Post your component list; rate other anons'; ask questions in general.
State the PURPOSE of your PC & BUDGET. State COUNTRY if not USA.
List GAMES/SOFTWARE you use often. List resolution & hz if gaming.
Seeking build improvements? Clarify goal: lower price or improved specs?
Put effort into your queries to make yourself easy to help.
>Assemble your parts list with price comparisons & compatibility filter.

Currently worthwhile CPUs:
>G4560 for budget builds (<$500) unless G4620/i3-6100 is heavily discounted
>i3 & i5 aren't worthwhile. Get Ryzen 5, drop down to G4560, or up to i7
>No R5 1400 unless discounted
>i7-7700k is good but pricey. If over budget: consider locked 7700; not chasing 4.8Ghz+ capable when you weren't gonna overclock, or get R5
>Cheap Z270 board is still good for faster memory in games w/ locked 7700, but aren't for overclocking (VRMs suck)
>R7/Xeon for compute/multitask/mixed use
Currently worthwhile GFX cards:
>RX470 8GB, RX480 8GB, 1070, 1080, 1080TI
>1060 is worth considering over a 480 if same/cheaper in your country, or you just play games it's better on for the price. 1050Ti is for mITX builds
>Nvidia GPU + Ryzen has issues in DX12/Vulkan currently
>Budget builds: consider integrated graphics over a card weaker than an RX470, unless another's price/performance is better (ie discounted/used)
>Vega comes in May
General:
>Don't feel bound to a specific brand/model. Parametric filters on pcpartpicker can help
>Consider SSD-only for what you budgeted on SSD+HDD combined. Add HDD later once needed
>NVMe aren't worth it just for faster OS boot. They're primarily for productivity as a scratch disk
>Save money w/ mATX case/mobo, and if patient by purchasing your parts individually in flash sales

Why does the Ryzen 1600 only have 3 reviews on Newegg? Is Newegg not a good site to buy parts from anymore?
>>59921453
How does this look?
Aiming for playing modern games at 60fps on 1080p.
Budget is 1400-1500, but I still need to pick out a monitor. Suggestions welcome.
I picked the RX 480, but I'm probably going to wait for the 580.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JG9HKZ
We need a better thing than the old pastebin.
It should go over things like:
how to pick a motherboard (how to roughly identify VRMs if you are going to overclock, how to see if it has the features you want, notes about how 6 SATA + m.2 isn't always better than 4 SATA + m.2 since using the m.2 often disables a SATA, how motherboards can have wireless included which can be cheaper, audio, etc..)
how to not fall into a trap expecting a $90 Z270 board and your meme aio to reach 5ghz overclocks
when to buy a better thing vs overclocking
how easy gpu overclocking is
VMs and emulation...
And how people need to better search for the actual deals they're getting and edit in prices for their pcpartspicker so it's not a repeated waste of time to point out there's another one on sale for cheaper.
Someone was working on a page that had pictures which was pretty good like 2 weeks ago. It needed work, but it was better than the old pastebin, but I haven't seen that person around.
When will we have 100 dollar full genome sequencing?
>>59921361
>Apply for job
>Full genome sequencing is required
>I didn't get the job because they think I'll be aggressive and drop dead from 30 kinds of cancers
Thanks for nothing science.
>>59921454
Luckily we have anti discrimination laws :^)
>>59921485
Good luck proving that, retard.
Oh no you have genetic defects, sorry but we can't move forward with your application.
For the past few years, ads have become what we call, intrusive. They move, they flash, they make noises and they play videos, without your consent. They are the main source of malware distribution.
I think the time has come raise our voices. A voice such as this:
I have set up a VM and a lightweight hardened linux distro inside it. There is one and only program running on it: Firefox. This particular Firefox has some unique traits to it: it runs through a proxy server, it has AdNauseam and Tab Auto Reload installed. I opened 15 different ad-ridden websites and I am constantly abusing them. I leave my computer open overnight and I am proud to say that I have been trashing thousands of dollars of ad revenue, every single night.
Now think about it, what would happen if 1000 people, on /g/, who are reading this, done the same thing? MILLIONS OF DOLLARS, TRASHED. Fucking amazing. Now think about what would happen if 1.000.000 people done the same thing, for a week? That is right. The global ad network would pathetically collapse.
So I am asking you a favor, a favor that will change the web as we know it. Will you participate in this -now obligatory- protest against the global ad networks?
Nice blog post gayboy.

>install Linux
>have to boot from recovery mode to make video drivers properly work
Explain me why
>>59921202
What GPU are you using?
AMD GPUs have pretty good built in open source drivers (if the kernel isn't too old). Newer Nvidia GPUs don't have open source driver support, so you will HAVE to install the proprietary driver to get video (you would install it anyway since it offers a lot more performance)
>>59921202
You are retarded and dont know how to use shit
Linux is primarily a server OS. You have ever heard the saying "You can't polish a Turd" ?
Well you can actually polish a turd but it is still just a lump of shit, that shit is GNU/Linux desktop.
Why aren't you using the best AV software out there yet, anon?
But I am.

Even the best AV software cannot protect your computer from all attacks.

you can still upgrade. You just need to confirm you're using accessibility options, which means you're retarded.
Windows 11 when?
There will not be an 11 just like there is no 9.

There is 9.
8.1 is 9. That dot is in reality, a teeny tiny little + sign.

What are some useful tricks you've picked up over the years to make your tech experience more pleasant?
- Pressing F2 with a file selected will let you rename it, and pressing tab will move to the next file in the folder for renaming (Win).
- Hiding weed in your computer case isn't a good idea if your computer catches on fire.
I'd just like to interject for a moment. You appear to be using an element from this manga in your post: http://divajutta.com/doctormo/ubunchu/c5.html

Picked up some old textbooks for free from a family friend, trying to study for my CCNA and LPIC, obviously with up-to-date electronic versions of textbooks as well, but there's something about a physical book that makes the information easier to absorb.
What are you studying for, /g/?
