Which is the best Nvidia manufacturer?
>>59927605
Spell is correctly and I'll answer.
EVGA is an explosive experience.
>>59927605
Primarily EVGA because god tier customer support and quality control (minus dropping the ball with the 1080 and 1070 vrms and capacitors)
Strix if you enjoy shuriken fan blades killing your cat
GIgabyte if you like gigabyte
MSI if you like to grill in your spare time and be edgy
PNY if you aren't self conscious about your brands
Gainward if you have a brick or cinder block fetish
Time and time again /g/ talks about user data collection on the WIndows platform (telemetry) but what about Apple's desktop operating system? Did any of you anons using OSX/macOS bother to check addresses communicating with your computer? does macOS phone home to Apple like Windows pings Microsoft from time to time?
Is there any workaround this issue besides installing GNU/Linux?
>>59927593
mac users are too stupid to care
Well obviously iCloud is a botnet, but iCloud runs on Azure platform (also botnet)

FOUR HUNDRED AND FORTY THREE.
Wow, anon! That sure is a HUGE AMOUNT of games!
>>59927559
Not even half my library is on Linux.
>>59927559
Even the PSP, which is well known for its tiny game catalog, has over 800 games, 2x more than that list.

>decide to wipe it using DBAN because /g/ says is the best
>leave it doing its thing
>during the night a tree falls and electricity cuts out
>later check the drive and notice it's failing and has around 2000 bad sectors
>before the that day it showed it was healthy as fuck and had no bad sectors
WTF HAPPENED!!!!
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Is there any way to fix this?
>>59927558
Before you didn't know it had any bad sectors. DBAN works well as a hardware test.
>>59927558
Shoulda used hdderase
>Stresses HDD for hours
>Wonders why it is now failing
>What is GNUnet?
GNUnet is a fully decentralised p2p framework for a number of applications, the most commonly used one (probably) is filesharing
More info:
https://gnunet.org/goals
https://gnunet.org/concepts
>Why use GNUnet over private trackers?
Private trackers:
>have to keep up a seed ratio or you're thrown out
>have to attach an account to your searches and requests
>have to trust that the private tracker's owner won't leak your details anywhere
>uploading must be approved
GNUnet:
>no seeding requirement
>no account needed
>no trusted 3rd parties needed
>no way to trace any traffic back to you, unless you set anonymity to 0
>even just searching for content can be done via GNUnet's anonymous protocol
>anyone can publish anything
>no way for publishers to know who's downloading
>no way for downloaders to know who's publishing (except via optional namespaces)
>Sounds cool, where do I start?

Because GNUnet GUI is vomit inducing and the documentation is awful. Pic related is the GUI.

Linux could never be a desktop OS.
That's why Microsoft added bash in Windows 10.
>Prove me wrong
You can't
>>59927477
>You can't
Oh, but I can.
PowerShell was shit, so Microsoft added bash as as a replacement.
>>59927498
Bash isn't a replacement to PS
>>59927477
Linux wouldn't be a good OS because that's not what it's designed to be. It's a kernel.

Does anyone find the situation once again mirrors 2004 where Intel has to push clocks and power consumption as high as possible to compete? So many fond memories.
>>59927465
I'm assuming that the 10nm chips are extremely energy efficient.
Which is one of the most important features on mobile chips, such as in laptops.
I don't see a problem here.
>>59928177
What about desktops?
Why the fuck are pretty much all smartphones so easy to break?
They charge them for $600-700, yet if you throw them at the wall or floor even once they fall apart in your hands or don't function anymore.

I spend way too much time looking at distros. I must have downloaded and tested more than 20. Maybe 25 or so.
I think I'm just going to stay with Ubuntu or Mint because I have shit to do.

What other programming languages are aesthetic, /g/?
C++
Rust maybe? Or verilog...

Is it worth it to get certifications such as CCENT/CCNA or is it essentially a waste?
What qualifications does /g/ have and why?
>>59926977
I have a CCNA, I'm not too sure it helps though. Haven't seen it mentioned at all.
I had to get it when I became an E Eng.
>>59927178
I should elaborate. I had to do it because of my school. It was one of the options for a course.
You have to get certificates that are actually useful to you, a friend of mine got his CCNA two years ago which was great when he worked in infrastructure stuff but he has since moved to an MSP and deals with nothing but HP equipment and windows server so he has forgotten most of the stuff he learned.
I'm going for my server 2016 MSCA currently which I should be able to leverage in what I do, there are jobs I narrowly missed out on because I only had experience and an associates degree in comp sci. They were asking for more in depth experience with windows scripting and deployment which the MSCA would have provided.
If you can leverage a decent certificate properly it could be the different between helpdesk monkey and junior sys admin. That's the difference not having one made for me recently

Zen+ and Vega will fix it.
AYYMD REBRANDEON HOUSEFIRES
-this didn't need it's own thread
-the rx 580 is seemingly just an overclocked 480 with better power delivery
-buying just to support competition between multinational companies is just a drop in the bucket. You aren't saving the world by throwing yourself on the sword to have a product you aren't satisfied with.

Given the skill level approximated by the statement, "I've built a computer before," how long should self-study take to get A+ certified, and more importantly, will it get me a job?
>>59926195
>I've built a computer before
Wew. Literally connect things that fit together. A+ certification is useless and it will not get you a job.
>>59926195
A+ certification by its self is worthless.
It is a primer on other comptia certifications though so you should take it to get certified. And see if you want to take at minimum 4 other comptia certifications.
